In 2005, when Dae Sik Han first visited the Clark Freeport Zone, the former United States Air Force base township carried hardly any luxury hospitality infrastructure. By 2008, Han had opened the Widus Hotel — the property that would, over the next sixteen years, evolve into Hann Casino Resort. By 2021, the complex was re-inaugurated under the Hann brand, replacing the Widus name. By 2022, the property held the 260-room Clark Marriott Hotel and the 372-room Swissôtel Clark — the first Swissôtel in the Philippines and the first five-star hotel in Central Luzon. The casino runs 147 gaming tables, 868-plus slot machines, and 44 electronic table games. Eighteen-plus restaurants, bars, and cafes cover the dining programme. Flying In

The Multilingual Welcome

Hann's clientele structure is unique in the Philippine integrated-resort landscape.

The dominant segment is the Korean expatriate and tourist market — Clark Freeport hosts one of the largest Korean expatriate communities in the Philippines, and Hann's gaming floor, hotel programme, and dining roster have been calibrated to that base. Korean is staffed throughout — the front desk, the gaming floor, the concierge, the Swissôtel and Marriott Clark butler services, the Korean-cuisine outlets. The second segment is the Chinese tour-group market that arrives via CRK directs from mainland China. The casino floor carries 147 live gaming tables, 868-plus slot machines, and 44 electronic table games across a single floor that, per PAGCOR data, generates more gross gaming revenue than any other Clark property. Baccarat dominates among the Korean and Chinese clientele; the broader table programme covers blackjack, roulette, sic bo, poker, and Texas hold'em. Stadium-style baccarat occupies the central pit. The hotel registration splits across the two in-property brands. Swissôtel Clark (opened 2022, 372 rooms) carries the Swiss-international register — the first Swissôtel in the Philippines, the brand's design and service vocabulary, the Swiss precision register layered across a Pampanga property.

The Dae Sik Han Story

The property's strategic outline runs through one biography.

Dae Sik Han first arrived at Clark Freeport Zone in 2005 as a tourist. The Freeport had been operating since the 1990s closure of the United States military base, but luxury hospitality infrastructure was minimal. Han, then a South Korean businessman with hospitality and gaming ambitions, identified Clark as the territory where the next major Philippine integrated resort could be built.

He began development in 2006. The Widus Hotel opened in 2008 as a mid-tier hospitality property. The 2008 global financial crisis disrupted the early occupancy trajectory; the property's commercial breakthrough came when PAGCOR granted Widus a casino licence in 2009. From 2009 forward, the property scaled across hotel expansions, casino-floor expansions, and brand partnerships.

The 2018 opening of Clark Marriott Hotel — the first 5-star hotel in Central Luzon — confirmed the property's ascent. The December 15, 2021 re-inauguration as Hann Casino Resort retired the Widus name and locked the Hann brand. The 2022 opening of Swissôtel Clark added the second luxury hotel partner.

Han's broader vision is the Hann Reserve Clark — the upcoming 2027 mega-resort that will add the Banyan Tree, Sofitel, and InterContinental hotel partners alongside the existing Hann Casino Resort campus. The two properties together — Hann Casino Resort and Hann Reserve — represent the largest integrated-resort programme in Central Luzon.

How Hann Compares

Within Clark, Hann Casino Resort holds the gaming-revenue leadership position. Royce Hotel & Casino is the mid-tier Korean-clientele alternative. Midori Hotel & Casino is the smaller-scale Taiwanese-investor property. Fontana Leisure Parks & Casino is the resort-casino-water-park hybrid. D'Heights Resort is the spectacle-and-Hilton-affiliated alternative.

For affluent travellers prioritising Korean expatriate gaming culture, the established Clark gaming leader, and the international-hotel-brand stack (Marriott + Swissôtel), Hann is the booking. For visitors looking at the upcoming Clark mega-resort tier, Hann Reserve opens Phase 1 in 2027 with the Banyan Tree, Sofitel, and InterContinental partners — the same Dae Sik Han vision extended at greater scale.

Within the national landscape, Hann's gaming-floor scale is smaller than the Solaire Entertainment City and Okada Manila operations but the Korean-clientele depth is distinctive — Hann is the property where the Korean expatriate gaming culture has, since 2009, developed its Philippine centre.

When to Visit

The Clark gaming calendar runs to the Korean tourist programme. Korean Chuseok in autumn drives the deepest single-event tourist surge; Lunar New Year in late January through February is equally peak. Chinese New Year, Easter, and Christmas-New Year all draw international tourist density.

For affluent Filipino travellers driving from Manila, weekends (Friday and Saturday) are peak. Weekday afternoons and weeknights deliver the property at its quietest.

The dry season — November through May — is the prime Clark visit window. The summer months (March-May) are warmer but deliver reliable conditions for the broader Pampanga and Clark Freeport excursions.
