The AFP is now on the move with regard to the bidding of Choppers for the Naval Air Group... They are currently planning to buy 2 Choppers with an option for 1 more in the near future... said 2 Choppers are gonna be assigned to the BRP GDP and the upcoming 2nd Hamilton Class Cutter due to arrive on or around the first 6 months of 2012... the 3rd Chopper which is an option would be for the 3rd Hamilton Class Cutter....

Scuttlebut is, said bidding is a collaboration between the DND and DOTC.... With the DOTC also interested to buy Choppers for the four (4) 56 Meter SARVs of the Philippine Coast Guard... 1 each to be assigned to the following PCG Ships... SARV 001 BRP San Juan, SARV 002 BRP EDSA II, SARV 003 BRP Pampanga & SARV 004 BRP Batangas....

looks like one of the components of Abnoy's Sona promises that will be realized... government agencies working together with regard to their needs so that they can buy in bulk to get discounts...

Scuttlebut also is that the Philippine Navy Naval Air Group and Philippine Coast Guard Air Group has the hots for the EC 645, the Armed Version of the UH-72 Lakota Choppers the US Army is currently using... said bird, the UH-72 is slowly replacing the aging fleet of UH-1 Huey and OH-58 Kiowa of the US Army....

What did the scuttlebutt say about the weapons fit? Will there be Anti-ship and Anti-submarine missile system to be fitted? Do they require over-the-horizon targeting? Form what I know, helos are used as part of stand-off targetting system. What use would the helicopters be if the Hamiltons don't have missile systems?

Why is there so much obsession on the procurement of choppers? Toys for the big boys? Baka naman gagamitin sa 2013 elections?

no idea with regard to the weapons fit but I think it would be safe to assume if it would be EC 645s there would be at least a GPMG which would fit the choppers primary function of patrolling the waters of the WPS along with its mother ship.

Primary and secondary functions of the choppers would be:

-Showing the Flag ops (Immediate dispatch from the mother ship to make "Sita" to any vessel that would stray into the WPS without prior permission.

-Search and Rescue

-Shipboard transfers when the small rubber boats of the mother ship can't handle the weather.

-Patrol of the WPS areas that can't be covered by the mothership immediately...

-Maritime Law Enforcement

me hopes we get the SH-60 Seahawk which can be fitted with torpedoes and missiles, pero i think our budget can't handle it....

there's so much obsession with regard to the procurement of the Shipboard Choppers because it greatly enhances the capabilities of the mothership it would be assigned to...

another US Cutter is under way to be bought, if it will be purchased, it will be turned over to us early next year.

It would definitely be much better if it were a Nimitz-class super carrier but our budget couldn't take it.

i wish there could be a cheaper yet convincing way to settle the dispute.

pwede bang our Best fighter against their Best fighter? Mano e mano.

I don't think we spend that much on defense.

Puwede 'to... Tulad sa Hunger Games or G Gundam :D Kung kaninong representative ang manalo, yung country niya masusunod. Tipid ka pa sa gastos para sa isang giyera :D

We really cant go toe to toe with china, personally it would be better for the US to just give us new ships and weapons however china will flex its economic muscle, to date china got the US by its ball, if it decides to simply sell alll it dollar reserve or just simply asks the US to pay its debt, the US will be dead.... But if the US can fix its economy and continues its policy of rebuilding its network and relationship with countries in SEA then the region of SEA will eventually play a major role in balancing and tempering the influence of china...

But remember the US will be here as long as it serves its interest, remember history how the US left south vietnam when it was defeated by north vietnam and how it abandoned the kuomintang party which fled to taiwan when it was defeated by mao....thats why china is a permanent member of un security council it was given by the US to general chang kai shek as consolation when it concentrated its war effort in Europe, when chang was defeated by mao, the US never helped chang defeat mao and it didnt support taiwan declaring independence, why? Because a divided china works in the interest for US.

All in all its best for the Philippines to concentrate in strenghtening its economy through education! More scientists, engineers and less lawyers we got too much of them already!

That's a misinformed opinion Bro. Or at least exaggerated. The investment of China is only $1.61 trillion. That's less than 5% of all US debts. In fact, it was China who bought US treasury bonds, without the US asking for it. It's just like me buying Phil treasury bills, without RP asking me to do it. The US gov't can easily pay it anytime it wants to. Besides, the biggest creditors of the federal gov't are actually the different federal reserve banks of the different US states followed by big American corporations. From the US gov't mind, China investment is just very little. So China has nothing to be proud of. In fact its Citizens are migrating to other countries to look for food and jobs.

Going "Toe to Toe" with the Chinks was never the intention of the AFP Modernization.... Building a Credible Force, not even a strong force is the aim of the AFP CUP for us to be able to patrol our territory. The AFP is currently in the midst of transitning from Internal Security Operations or ISO for short, to Territorial Defense or TD. Many are attacking the AFP for buying 2nd hand ships from the US Coast Guard not realizing that said USCG ships a a few steps up the ladder considering that they will be replacing The current flagship of the Phil. navy which was built in 1943. The Hamiltons were launched in 1965 and were upgraded in the mid 80's.... Compare that to the BRP Rajah Humabon who was built in 1943 then you'll realize the PN has leapt bounds... Pag-practicean muna ng PN yung Hamiltons for about 15 years then saka sila bibili ng truly modern na mga barko...

di bigay yan. may kapalit yan na di natin alam.

tsaka mga barko na yan itatapon na dapat.

Lahat naman ng bagay meron kapalit eh. that's why people buy goods from each other, aside from the immediate effect of both of them gaining from the other (the buyer gets the material he needs and the seller gets the profits he also needs)in the future whenever any of them needs a favor, madaling lapitan yung ka-deal nya.

itatapon???? hindi rin. ang daming developing Navies around the world na nakikipag unahan satin jan when it comes to the Hamiltons.

Been reading your post and since heatseeker ka plus AIM 9 picture mo, siguro fighter jockey ka din. So maybe telling you this might make a difference.

Sure, everything has a price in this world. We just have to be on guard about hidden cost. Learn lang from history that when the Philippines seemed to be going to war with Malaysia (Malaya pa nuon because it still was not joined with Singapore) the British were quick to express support for Malaya and so the Philippines invoked the Mutual Defense Treaty. Guess what? The Philippines blinked. Mind you, the AFP then was much much stronger. The PAF had squadrons of F-86 while Malaya had a handfull of F-84 so why did we blink?

It might also be good to learn the lessons from the Hmong tribe of Laos during the Vietnam War.

Not saying that the AFP should not get the Hamiltons and whatever else. Just saying that the AFP should look at hidden costs.

Just a little insight from the past. The PAF chose the F-27 Maritime over the Nomad N22 Searchmaster because of the capability to carry ant-ship missile. This is the reason why the F-27 seems like such a big aircraft for such a small radar station. After getting the F-27, no country would sell the Philippines anti-ship missile. And so, the F-27 Maritime ended up as VIP aircraft (very little seats).

I hope the AFP thinkers of today do not have such mindset as those of yesterday who would buy from Sikorsky, combat Blackhawk helicopters converted into executive helicopters for the Presidential Airlift, and executive S-76 converted into combat helicopters.

Commonality of parts should also be considered important. E, jeep lang kung anu anu pang klase nasa inventory. Para tuloy guerilla force ang AFP. Mukha din guerilla kung pintura lang ng eroplano iba iba pa.
