South China/West Philippine Sea

Recommended Posts

I don't think so. Land-based missile and air forces are quite enough to keep the USN away from Taiwan (provided you have enough of those). China just wants those ships so they'd have experience building them. It's not easy building a carrier (much less a competent one). Who knows? Maybe one day, China might have a blue-water navy of it's own.

Well think again because you are dead wrong. Missiles and aircraft when under maintenance are just sitting on the tarmacs and in their silos. Ships and subs can be replenished out at sea and while doing so, significantly extends the area you can put under surveillance and gives you a lot more warning time before the opfor arrives. Ships at sea are only limited by the fuel, weapons and food they can carry and the occasional long term maintenance every couple of years but they can be at a particular area for days, weeks even. At most, aircraft in the PRC inventory can only stay up at 8 hours max in a given area. the farther they are from their bases, the less patrol time they have on a particular spot.

One perfect example of them ChiComs practicing said art of maintaining ships at a particular area for quite some time on a combat footing far from any ChiCom naval base is their contribution to the anti-piracy effort off the coast of Somalia. Since 2008 or 2009, they have maintained a minimum of 2 warships and 1 replenishment ship in the area.

Know what a former PACOM Commander once said??? "We aren't threatened by the PRC's Aircraft and Missiles, for all we know, except for the first few batches they bought from the Russians, the rest are Russian knock-offs. What we're concerned about are their Kilo Class Subs and Sovremenny Class Destroyers they got from the Russkies."

News item: Phl need 48 fighter jets and 6 mini subs to have a credible defense force. If only the "pasalubong, pabaon and conversion" generals will return the money they took malaking tulong na yon para mabili ang mga ito ng AFP.

Alam nyo masakit for the Decent AFP personnel,eh yung misconception ng mga tao na kung walang corruption sa AFP eh ang dami na nating fighter jets, submarines etc etc...

Do the math. Look at the previous AFP budgets. Kahit pagsama-samahin nyo pa nawalang pera due to military corruption during the past 10 years, it's not enough to buy 1 F-16 fighter jet, let alone 1 submarine.

Akala nyo ba ganon kalaki budget ng AFP?????? Bago sana tayo gumawa ng motherhood statements na wala naman ding maitutulong sa AFP as an organization and the morale of the majority of AFP personnel who are not corrupt, eh mag-isip isip muna tayo.

Sabi nga nila, "Talk is CHEAP."

agree. not only do people blame it on this or that man's corruption, they somehow think that that excuses us from working hard to help our country and our military.

It was only in Erap's presidency that the AFP had a better budget. 4%, as how we think this is small, is attributed to military kaya aggressive din ang mga sundalo sa pang gegera sa mindanao that time. While the rest puro 1% lang.

Sabah - Owned by Sultanate of Sulu, leased by the Brits, handed ownership to Malaysia. This caused Diosdado Macapagal to cut our ties with Malaysia. Marcos planned to take this over by war via commandos. Ninoy exposed this plan so it did not push thru and a lot of people died of this. Currently, up until now, Filipinos are still being thrown off Sabah and the Government is doing nothing of this. And I don't think 50% of the Philippine population know that Philippines is the rightful owner of this "Malaysian" land.

Mischief Reef - Everyone knows, China took this by force from us.. May ginawa tayo? our politicians whined.

Now the rest of the Spratly's are in dispute

Scarborough Shoal is an addition to the conflict now.

For as long as corruption is very much alive in the military the decent members of society will shy away from it, in fact some big businessmen would like to bankroll the purchase of some some military equipment but are hesitant ro do so because "baka mapunta lang sa bulsa ng mga generals eh".

Magtutuwad man sinong Poncio Pilato, hindi mawawala yan. kahit sa US Armed Forces meron Military Corruption. ERADICATING Military Corruption is a pipedream that only people who are either naive, gullible, those smoking pot or the legal fronts of the NPAs like BayanMuna and their ilk would espouse said answer.

The Air Force General who falsified his birthdate so that he can stay in service longer was already dealth with.

Another Air Force General who became the CO of the 220th Military Airlift wing in Cebu who boosted some power generators in the base and sold it at a gross disadvantage resulting in loss of money of the government now has criminal cases pending in court.

Then there's General Carlos Garcia and the AFP raising a ruckus in the Media when they found out that the Ombudsman under Ditas Gutierrez went into a deal with him without consulting the AFP.

A few years ago, said Generals would never have been brought to court.

Sana naman ang makita nyo yung positive developments na nangyayari sa AFP and PNP na din these past few years. You can never ERADICATE Military Corruption. The best that you can do is MITIGATE it.

Heard this straight from the mouth of a decent AFP member, "kaya walang mangyari sa AFP kasi nauubos lang sa corruption ang budget". Look at the Fort Bonifacio privatization program. That was implemented to "modernize" the AFP. Hinde!! Sabi nga nila "Denial is the biggest lie".

1.) Talaga??? alam mo, the mere fact na sinabi nung kausap mo yon makes him corrupt. There is something wrong with your thought process kung sa tingin mo eh "DECENT" member ng AFP kausap mo.

2.) This statement only shows your GROSS IGNORANCE regarding the matter. The AFP never had the chance to handle the money. The proceeds from the sale were sent to the NATIONAL TREASURY, sila ang nakawala ng pera hindi yung AFP.

Oo nga naman. In fairness, mayroon naman nangyayari sa AFP. What happens at the Sandiganbayan is not within the control of the AFP. And for those who think that the AFP and PNP have a monopoly of corruption, I hope they think again.

1.) Majority of Officers are products of ROTC and or Integree Programs. Only a handful come from the PMA.

2.) PMA has over its history already produced around 7,000 men and starting 1997, women in uniform. Of the more than 7,000 individuals who came from the academy, how many have been involved in anomalies both proven in a court of law and alleged in the media???? baka nga wala pang 300.

3.) To answer your question with regard to their VALUES of, not mere Slogan of Courage, Integrity & Loyalty, not HONESTY, the few who got tempted obviously ditched the INTEGRITY part in favor of doing nefarious activities. Do not lump the majority who kept themselves Honorable with the few rascals because by holding the institution, in this case the PMA responsible for the actions of the few corrupt alumni, you are generalizing that everyone who came from that institution's corrupt.

Meron ba galing Boy Scout, NPA, MILF , MNLF , Abu Sayaf o Reservist? Even reservist don;t get to be Generals.

Ever heard of a Reservist who became AFP Chief of Staff named Fabian Ver??? A lot of Reservists got to be Generals, specially during the time of Marcos who distanced himself from the PMAyers because according to scuttlebut inside Military camps, Marcos had much more difficulty inducing PMA grads to be his lapdogs. I'm not saying that ALL Reservists were his lapdogs but compared to PMA Grads, the proportion of Marcos lapdogs from the Reservists vis a vis the PMA grads is so disproportionate.

Some Officers from the MNLF were absorbed by the AFP as Officers in the PA but they weren't able to carry their ranks from the MNLF to the PA. Some MNLF Brigade Commanders, the equivalent of a Colonel in the PA were absorbed in the PA as Platoon Leaders with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. it was part of the peace process agreement because some MNLF Officers didn't know anything else but being a soldier. Majority of MNLF rebels opted to be farmers instead using the land FVR and his boys gave them, some became CAFGUs under the PA who defended the their fellow ex MNLFs who became farmers from the MILF and other bandit groups, while the senior military leaders of the MNLF opted to join the PA as officers albeit being given the rank of 2LT. and starting their military careers all over again.
