storm
Dito pareho kami ni Pareng Storm. Here, I had no choice. I had to learn this because during family gatherings, I had to dance with my mother....and my aunts of course. Napakinabangan ko rin naman kahit papaano. A few years back, I worked for an MNC and during our international sales conferences, nagkaroon ng dancing during one of the evening functions. Yung mga delegates from Latin America, syempre they were really into it. Ako lang yata sa mga Asians ang nakapag-dare sumabay sa kanila (ano malay ng mga Hapon, Koreano, Hongkies, etc sa rumba? salsa?). I have to tell you those latinas were really hot! Heeeheee! Buti na lang good boy na ko. Haha! Then by your and Pareng Willow's standards, I must be considered a sell-out! Geez it must be almost two decades ago since my last pair of Levi's. Although meron pa rin naman ako mga Lacoste shirts. These days, I only have 2 or 3 pairs of denims puro M&S pa. The rest, typical office slacks. I've sold out to the establishment... You can always go back to being hip. Gaya nga ng sabi ni Pareng NAZARETH I remember the Levi's Ads with Bellamy Bros song - LET YOUR LOVE FLOW - still love that song  There's a reason... Let your love flow... That's hot. Quote Link to comment
KayaK
Pareng Lomex, nice photo of Cubao (Aurora Boulevard) from the mid-70s. Almost every weekend ay nandiyan kami noon. oo nga ano. it's aurora blvd. nga na para bang ang camera ay nasa diamond theater the way this picture was shot. i was thinking about that sign on the tall building next to shell station and i remember that this would read "asian institute of applied electronics". it's like a vocational school that occupies the top floor of the building where the ground floor is prudential bank branch yata and next to it is cubao elementary school across uniwide. that corner building fronting the white beetle is PNB cubao branch where the beetle is going towards the direction of quezon and sampaguita theaters. ang luwag pa ng aurora blvd. nuon. From what I remember of Cubao, especially with this particular intersection, tama lahat ang sinabi mo! Edited July 26, 2006 by willow_boy Quote Link to comment

That's the meralco bldg. and philcomcen though without the their communication towers atop its roofs. They were the two most prominent bldgs. in ortigas back then. wala man lang ka traffic traffic sa edsa nuon. that green car is a torana, right? can't figure out what car is the red one behind. The images of Old Cubao along Aurora Blvd that stick to my mind are those of Prudential Bank and then malapit dun yung Stella Maris College...so the picture is on the opposite side huh? Does that mean yung Stella Maris is at the back of that gasoline station? Sa ibaba nung same building as Asian Institute (although not shown in the picture) is the old Prudential Bank while across the street, the Progressive Bank is in the same building as Ma Mon Luk. And further down, one block away (from where the Beetle is turning left) just before Highway 54, that's the same street where Spice of Life (you guys remember this place?) used to be. Tama ba? O mali pa rin? Quote Link to comment

Kasi if I remember right, on the way to Stella Maris you would still have go past Coronet, Remar, and Diamond theaters on that side of Aurora Boulevard. Tama ka about Ma Mon Luk, that it is on the same side of the street as Progressive Bank. I'm just not so sure if it's in the same building though. The same block where Isetann is and the next block further down towards marikina would be where mercury drug is at the corner same block as COD. bale mas harap na sa bandang coronet theater ang ma mon luk where as this building of progressive bank would end facing remar theather and columbia bargain house. hindi kaya? bods1000
Bow ako! ANG GAGALING NINYO LAHAT !!!! Thanks to all who gave it a shot! But may mali pa rin kayo, and I'm still waiting for Pareng Bods, Pinoy Strigoi, and Magaling to answer my 70s Lyric Quiz! Why don't you try it, Starbuck 911? I think you'll make a clean sweep! I still have more of these, but a bit harder this time... BTW, favorite singer yata ni Lipstick si "sirit" :thumbsupsmiley: Storm, naka-ready na yung sounds ko for our next EB!! parang puro matatanda na talaga yung pag-mention mo sa amin ah pero hats-off ako dun sa mga nakasagot - di ko rin talaga alam yung iba... Yes I agree. Ma Mon Luk was almost infront of Coronet theater (not the Inn  ). My dad and I would go there for the mami, siopao and siomai. Then the news about rat and cat meat being used broke out and I never went inside another store. While walking along the sidewalk, sa amoy pa lang alam mo na malapit na ang Ma Mon Luk. I remember the Progressive Bank. My friend's dad was the manager, so we would usually hang around the branch pag naglalakwatcha kami and we needed a place to sit. I always admired the bank tellers then. Parang ang gaganda nila and so sophisticated, dahil siguro college grad sila tapos ako totoy pa. heheheheh.... Quote Link to comment
bods1000
Would it be ok to ask:How would one define the word "audiophile"? I always thought of it this way:Audiophile = hi-fi enthusiast: somebody who has an enthusiasm for sound reproduction, especially high-fidelity music recordings (pareng Bods, back me up here naman) pare, just logged in now pero tama na siguro ang definition mong yan. I just couldn't add more but this - what an audiophile isn't - someone who buys those, I don't know what you call it - those all-in-one music systems. Magkakasama na yung DVD player, ampli, speaker, CD player. CAn't get hi-fidelity music from such contraptions. Also the boomboxes of yesteryears... Quote Link to comment

storm
Tipong parang pulos batang Cubao mga tao rito Ma Mon Luk - it's either you like it or you don't. Favorite of boys but hated by girls then and now. Hate iyan ng mama ko at ng watiwat ko or waswit or kumander ko. Kung gusto mong mag-break kayo ng syota mo, bring her to Ma Mon Luk or Masuki Stella Maris. Had one for a short while. Urban legend lang yang pusa raw ang siopao ng Ma Mon Luk. Kasi kung totoo, kakain na ako ng pusa. Gagawin kong pastel, catballs, pasta sauce, carpacchio, whatever. I have friends who brought sackfuls of live cats to Ma Mon Luk, galit na hinabol daw sila so naiwan nila yung mga pusa. Nakawala pa raw yung iba. Galing ka na ba Pareng Bods? O ano mga 'tol? Yugyugan EB na this weekend? Sige Pareng flyingdutchman. Edited July 26, 2006 by storm Quote Link to comment
starbuck911
Hey.....nice photos of Makati, Pasig, and Q.C. before we embraced the mall-culture. Sana there's more of those pics to view in here. It really fits the mood of this thread. Quote Link to comment

I Near Ma Mon Luk was a Chinese resto HONG NING...which cooked really great chinese cuisine at low budget prices reason why it was our favorite resto along that vicinity. They used to have a branch also beside a vocational school also along Aurora Blvd. extension. Quote Link to comment
