Sa mga barkada ko sa high school, it was considered a "rite of passage" to go to Ali Mall, makipag-kilala sa chicks from high schools in the area (notably girls from St. Paul and Maryknoll were priority targets), and hopefully e magkaroon ng follow-up dates, etc. :evil:

 

Man! Don't even get me started on SPCQC and Maryknoll. Pero in the QC area, marami pang ibang schools noon that also have pretty HS girls, not to mention cute uniforms. Hehehe. Stella Maris, St. Mary's, etc.

 

In the Manila area, there's (natural!) SPCM, St. Scho, Holy, etc. Pero yan naman, mas madalas Harrison Plaza or Quad tumatambay. I never met anyone from Assumption in HS. College na ko when I first met anyone from that school and I was already working when I first dated one. Layo kasi sa area of operation ko eh. Hahaha!

As far as Ali Mall is concerned, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, pero I think it holds the distinction of being the first mall in the country to have a multi-level parking garage housed within the same structure. I can't recall any mall who had that feature prior to Ali Mall. Anyway again, please correct me if I'm wrong here.

 

Yes, I think Ali Mall was the first mall in the metro. Followed by Broadway Centrum (popular for its theatre with lover's seats as we used to call them before) and then by Harisson Plaza. I could be wrong, of course, pero that's what I can remember. But of course Quad has always been there...but it doesn't count as a mall does it? And Greenhills?

 

What is the proper definition of a mall anyway? Geez! Pati tuloy ako nako-confuse na! Hehehe

The most memorable movie of our high school days was Gone in 60 Seconds. Almost the whole batch watched that movie at the same time at Cinema 21 in Cubao. Cinema 21 was famous for its reclining seats.

I remember ALICIA CUENCA..dami naging morbid stodies about her that were not true..kesyo kesyo na-rape daw, had a kid with then presidential son at kung ano ano pa...pretty women were really fair game for nasty rumors. :-( kasi kakaunti lang talaga ang stand-out..sa dami ba naman maganda ngayon, wala nang pakialam masyado sa chismis.

Yup, it's quieted down a notch, but also better time management is the key. I try to work more hours offline.

 

One thing that hasn't changed at all since the 70s are our so-called local variety shows. It's ironic they call them such when the format is basially the same for the past 40 years. Oh well, if it sells....

 

Jingle magazines eventually became Twinkle, di ba? Dun ako natuto mag guitara. Speaking of guitars, hows pareng eight-track doing? Pareng Masi and Mareng Liberty?

Here's an unmistakable 70's symbol - the Pioneer KP-500 with separate bass and treble knobs! What an unsightly head unit but boy did it sound good...

 

the pioneer kp-500 comes in 2 variants, the stereo cassette and the 8 track w/c is found mostly found in passenger jeepneys then. btw, i still have the stereo cass. with me and believe it or not its still in very good condition although nakakabit nalang sa office ko

Yup, Pioneer was my favorite stereo brand then. In fact, nasa bahay pa rin namin sa 'Pinas iyong aking receiver, turntable, and 2-way speakers that we bought back in 1979!

 

If I remember right, ang mga naglalaban na brands noon on the local scene were Kenwood, Pionner, Panasonic, and Akai. May Sony na rin pero it was not as prominent as the others when it came to stereos. Bose was not that known or famous either. Among the brands I mentioned, I believe Kenwood was at the high end of the price scale. Pioneer and Panasonic competed for second.

 

The receivers also came with those wire FM antennas that you taped on your wall. Remember those?
