Shambala
Guys,..there are a LOT of GYMS regarding Martial ARts. And MInd U guys, Filipinos have really been very proficient int he fighting arts,....even the healing aspects of martial arts. This country cld produce A LOT of World champions in almost every martial art/contact sport I know,...problem is,..there's no support frm orgs/govt sa martial arts d2. Believe me, its always basketball kse eh. ANywayz,...if there's any one who really intebnds to go very serious abt Martial arts, whether for sports, self defence or over all wellness,..I wld suggest na iwasan nyo ang mag comericlaized gyms. Taekwodno and Karate are almost evry where. and Filipino arts, more often than not are veyr effective. It so SAD 2 KNOW that Fil Martial arts are much more popular and appreciated overseas, specially in USA an dAustralia. Always remember that trainig is never easy, though very FUN and CHALLENGING at most times. Quote Link to comment
pogs109
trebbie, thanks sa link, bakit pareho lang yung price ng 12 session na Jiu-Jitsuat 4 session na Kali?mas mahirap bang ituro ang Kali kaysa Jiu-Jitsu? Quote Link to comment
TTT
if u plan to self studdy, you would learn only to a certain level. and even thou you learn the technicality of the art, you won't be able to learn the application. martial arts involves interaction and you wont be able to have interaction alone hehehe para kang nag s@ls@l lang nyan at nanoonood ng porno e hehehe in order to be good in martial arts, u really have to have sparring. tignan nyo c tito ortiz, sparring partner lang dati ni tank yon...inupakan nya na c ken shamrock...minsan nga a person who always gets beats up pa yung nag eexcel in the future e...martial arts is all abot discipline, hard work, and HEART. pag la kang puso at determination bali wala yan kahit mag train ka under whoever. TTT
nga lang its the opposite of what martial arts are supposed to be. self defence. Quote Link to comment
jumborat
no offense against gracie, but IMHO brazilian jiu-jitsu is geared toward sports and not for street survival purposes especially against multiple attackers. Quote Link to comment

DRAGONCLAW_39
Taekwodno and Karate are almost evry where. and Filipino arts, more often than not are veyr effective. It so SAD 2 KNOW that Fil Martial arts are much more popular and appreciated overseas, specially in USA an dAustralia. . thats exactly what im saying. Filipino martial arts like arnis, kali and escrima are very famous overseas because they can be use in real streetfight situation unlike other MA like taekwondo. Bruce Lee even include FMA on his JKD Thats why im telling you folks to study our own martial arts coz its better that other martial art out there. Quote Link to comment
Guest fhoryou
Actually guys Filipino martial arts are very effective. So effective that it can actually compete with other martial arts. I read in Inquirer before, not sure if it is Inquirer, that Bruce Lee has challenge this Filipino to a duel. I know Bruce Lee has study some Filipino Martial arts move himself from his very good friend Dan Inosanto(a filipino and kali practictioner). This guy was very well know in Hong Kong as Rambo or a alias with Rambo. Maybe because of his body built that he is Rambo but he is well know more of his skills in Filipino Martial arts in the streets and alleys. Once Bruce Lee heard of him he invited him for a friendly challenge. This duel was secretly video. As the fight began Bruce Lee was determined to win. The fight was extremely competitive that Bruce Lee was determined to win until he totally beats the hell out of him. Unfortunate that Bruce Lee lost after being stung down as he made hi ferociuos flying kick. As Bruce Lee went down the fight ended and accept defeat. The video was never shown to anyone. They became friends but not much publicly. Anyway I kept this article a few years back hoping to see this guy. On this article is also written that this guy is nice and gentle but when things get rough you better watch out. I forgot his name. I guess Filipino Martial Arts is strong except that us Filipinos does not practice it so much. Quote Link to comment
trebbie
Just a question: How can the person Lee supposedly fought be named Rambo? When Bruce Lee was alive the character of and the name Rambo was not yet famous. The Rambo character first came out in 1983 in the First Blood movie by Sylvester Stallone. Bruce Lee died in 1971, if I remember correctly. This may be another urban legend. Edited April 28, 2003 by trebbie Quote Link to comment
LoveHamster
I used to be member of Lingnam Athletic Association ( its a kungfu school in Chinatown ) during my high school days. It was during the Bruce Lee craze and rising fame of Jacky Chan. Its sure takes me away from movie hawshiaw and into the real world of martial art. Totally different, multiple & armed streetfighter are really difficult as there's no filmdirector to choreolgraph everymove to insure no injuries. Nowadays, I maybe way out of the martial art circle, so I carry a 9mm as last resort and ready to run like Forrest Gump. Quote Link to comment
Guest Romeo
fhoryou, if he is a filipino, then it must be trovador ramos. i've heard this story when i was a kid. im not sure if it's true but here is what i think. bruce lee was a good martial artist. hedeveloped 2 styles of fighting, one called Jeet Kune Do (JKD) and the other one for movies.from what i understand, there is a similarity between his JKD and his fight scenes in movies,(particularly Enter The Dragon and Chinese Connection,). he was really fast but also really light.i think he weighed around 140-150 and even dropped to below 130. so the power he generatedwith his punches and kick would have to rely on a lot of speed. also, from reading his books andwatching documentaries, he wasn't that good compared to today's UFC fighters. he used movesthat are not effecient (backfists, spinning kicks) as proven by modern martial artists. don't get mewrong, bruce was in incredible martial artist. what made him also incredible is his open mind. hewas willing to learn new things to improve himself. but by today's standard, he is below average. now, getting back to the bruce lee vs trovador ramos fight. i think it is possible that trovadorbeat bruce because of several reasons. trovador might have been bigger and heavier and can throw more powerful strikes. trovador might have also surprised bruce by his fighting stylewhich was unfamiliar with bruce. this is just my two cents. peace Quote Link to comment
