Hi peeps! I don't know if this is the right thread for my concern. Anyways, here it is:

I'm using Xperia X10i and was able to connect to the internet via the free WIFI connection at SM Dasma (and other SM branches for that matter). But for the past months, I could still connect to SM's free WIFI but couldn't connect to the internet at all. Is there any setting that I should change or am I missing out on something?

Me paraan kaya maaayos ito maliban sa restarting?

what OS is pc5 using? xp home or pro?

what are the ip addresses of all the computers? the printer?

can you ping the printer from pc5?

my staff's pc got infected with a virus from a usb flash drive. i was able to remove the virus. but now the directory tree is not showing. i am sure the directories/files are intact because i can change directories in the cmd prompt, they just do not show up when i type dir or on explorer. OS is XP. when using excel or winword, the only files that show up are in the default directory. TIA

(A) At Registry Level

Step 1: Open registry by typing “regedit” at command prompt. In registry ,search for word "Surabaya”.

You will see two keys entries as LegalNoticeCaption and LegalNoticeText.It contains the same message, which appears at startup.

Delete these keys. No harm

Step 2: Keep searching for this word “Surabaya”. There will be lot of entries, are attached to Rundll32. Just remove the Rundll Surabaya text portion from registry key. Remember, keep no trace of Surabaya.

Step 3: Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hideen\SHOWALL You will see that value of CheckedValue is 0 means show all files are disabled. To enable it make it 1.

Quit from registry and got to command prompt. (Start->Run->cmd)

( At Command line level

Step 4. Type CD\ to switch to root of drive say C: drive.

Issue the following command

Attrib *. * -S –H –R /D /S ( Put space between /D and /S switches.)

(Note: /S switchProcesses files in all directories in the specified path. /D, Process folders as well.) It will change the attributes of all files in C drive. Surabaya hides all the files by making them Hidden and System files. This command resets the attributes of the files to normal.

While running this command you may receive error for System Volume information folder. Just ignore.

Repeat this command to all drives in your system.

Now you may be able to see all files and folders in your drive.

Step 5 :When you click on infected drive, the autorun.inf file points to some thumb*.exe file. So delete both the files Autorun.inf as well thumb.exe

From command prompt issue following commands.

Del c:\autorun.inf

Del d:\autorun.inf (If D drive present. Do same for E, F: drives)

 

Del c:\thumb*.exe /S

Del d:\thumb*.exe /S

You may see the command is deleting thumbs.db files too. Don’t worry, these files will get regenerated

Check the Autoexec.bat files in C: drive. Remove the suspicious entries , if any.

Step 6 :Download and install “autoruns” utility. Check the startup programmes in “Logon” and remove the suspicious entries from startup.Restart the system.

OS is xp pro at yung mga ip ng mga pc is static at napiping ko naman sya. Ang name ng printer sa fax and printer is CanonIP1300 on "computername". pero pag nag print na sya pag tinignan yung computername nawawala lahat ng list ng printer nya

thanks a lot Sam J. will try your suggestion. at first i thought it was 'autorun.inf' so i tried to delete it from the cmd prompt but it was not found by the attrib command. the anti virus programs/shield flagged several files with the 'exe' extension with the directories/sub-directories as filenames thus Music.exe, Pictures.exe, and so on. i think the anti-virus has removed/quarantined or disabled the virus(es) but the 'missing directory tree' problem remained. i cannot search for files/directories since explorer does not display them. even the 'dir' command at the cmd prompt shows nada.

 

it's possible system if still infected. when you removed the virus did you disable system restore? try safe mode and run you anti virus/ spyware program.

 

if you could provide the name of the virus ti would help.

 

if not might as well reinstall windows.

^^^ will try that too come monday... last resort would be to reinstall windows, i have backup files in a separate harddisk anyway. i just do not want to go the trouble of re-installation if i can help it. the pc is actually newly upgraded and i have not installed anti-virus and usb disk security when a staff's daughter plugged in an infected flash drive. muchas gracias Sam J

Sometimes you forget your Windows password, or maybe your workmate leave and you replace him and you cannot access his ex-computer because it have a password. And you cannot guess his/her password to login. And you cannot reinstall the Windows because it have lot if important data and software that need to be installed and tweak. Then reinstall the Windows is not the answer.

 

If you had this problem then don't worry, you still can reset Windows 7 password using Ubuntu. Whether boot it from USB or using Ubuntu live CD. To reset Windows 7 using Ubuntu you can use chntpw.

 

 

 

So to install chnptw on Ubuntu, follow the steps below:

1. Open your terminal and add universe repository, by editing sources.list:

 

vim /etc/apt/sources.list and add or enable this line:

 

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid main restricted universe multiverse

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates main restricted universe multiverse

 

2. Update your repository list:

apt-get update

 

3. Install chnptw:

 

apt-get chnptw

 

4. chnptw installed.

 

Note this chnptw only work in OS 32 bit version. for 64 bit version you need to download from debian source here and pick 64 bit version.

 

 

chnptw usage:

1. Get your hard drive label by using:

fdisk -l

 

2. Find where you install your Windows 7, then go to that hard drive and windows installation folder

cd /media//WINDOWS/system32/config/

 

3. Use chnptw to reset password:

chntpw SAM

 

4. It will show you User details and command to reset password:

Choose "1″ to clear the default user password and press "y" to confirm.

Delete An "undeletable" File

 

Open a Command Prompt window and leave it open.

Close all open programs.

Click Start, Run and enter TASKMGR.EXE

Go to the Processes tab and End Process on Explorer.exe.

Leave Task Manager open.

Go back to the Command Prompt window and change to the directory the AVI (or other undeletable file) is located in.

At the command prompt type DEL <filename> where <filename> is the file you wish to delete.

Go back to Task Manager, click File, New Task and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell.

Close Task Manager.

 

 

Or you can try this

 

Open Notepad.exe

Click File>Save As..>

locate the folder where your undeletable file is

Choose 'All files' from the file type box

click once on the file u wanna delete so its name appears in the 'file name' box

put a " at the start and end of the file name

(the file name should have the extension of the undeletable file so it will overwrite it)

click save,

It should ask u to overwrite the existing file, choose yes and u can delete it as normal

 

 

Here's a manual way of doing it.

1. Start

2. Run

3. Type: command

4. To move into a directory type: cd c:\*** (The stars stand for your folder)

5. If you cannot access the folder because it has spaces for example Program Files or Kazaa Lite folder you have to do the following. instead of typing in the full folder name only take the first 6 letters then put a ~ and then 1 without spaces.

Example: cd c:\progra~1\kazaal~1

6. Once your in the folder the non-deletable file it in type in dir - a list will come up with everything inside.

7. Now to delete the file type in del ***.bmp, txt, jpg, avi, etc... And if the file name has spaces you would use the special 1st 6 letters followed by a ~ and a 1 rule. Example: if your file name was bad file.bmp you would type once in the specific folder through command, del badfil~1.bmp and your file should be gone. Make sure to type in the correct extension.

Windows uses 20% of your bandwidth Here's how to Get it back

 

A nice little tweak for XP. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)

 

Here's how to get it back:

1.Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the "

2.This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:

 

Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth

 

3.Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab :

 

"By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default."

 

4.So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO.

 

This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.

 

I have tested on XP Pro, and 2000 other o/s not tested.

i followed your advice and used safe mode... got the problem solved.

 

among the suspicious files flagged by the antivirus is 'autoit.ADEC' and some trojan droppers. i am confident it will work fine now and i shall be spared of re-installing XP.

Really? That's great! Usually safe mode works because only xp drivers are working, eliminates virus/spyware that are loaded with the drivers. Make sure you turn on system restore back.

What media direct version are you using? this installation walkthrough is for Media Direct 3.3

 

1. Turn on the computer.
2. Press the key once a second until Preparing one-time boot menu.. shows in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. Insert the Dell MediaDirect Reinstallation CD into the CD/DVD/CD-RW drive.
4. Use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight CD/DVD/CD-RW.
5. Press .
6. When the Media Direct Reinstallation menu appears, select the option to partition the hard drive.
   • Select Option 1 from the menu if you wish to use all of the hard drive for your operating system installation.
     This is the most common selection and is how your computer was originally shipped to you, unless you specified an operating system partition size at the time you ordered your computer.
   • Select Option 2 if you wish to designate a size for your operating system and have a data partition.
     This will allow you to specify a size for the operating system partition, leaving the remainder of the hard drive configured as a "data" partition (D:).

This problem happens every once in awhile: I would look at my pc clock and it would show either a wrong hour or AM/PM, or both. When I boot the computer, I know that the clock time is correct but somewhere along the way, it changes. What could be causing this?

Hi guys,

 

I've recently noticed that whenever i right-click on my desktop and select Refresh, the command prompt briefly displays on my taskbar. I suspect this could be a malware but so far i haven't been able to remove it with my antivirus.

 

Any input on this?

does it also happen in safemode?

 

try running sdfix in safemode. may not be just a virus, might be spyware
