binoyski71
stupid management of globe for putting the blame on its customer's behavior... they probably realized that they will start losing their post-paid customers if they continue this scheme... just imagine if they decided to make permanent their offering... why stick with the post-paid plan when you can convert to a pre-paid & subscribe to their unlimited scheme... you'll save a lot from this... especially you know that majority of your contacts are already in the network... clitlicker
ginugulo lang tayo nang globe and smart, para hindi kayo lumipat sa sun....<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Lalo nga they are proving why we really should switch to SUN. I have already! Am quite happy since my billings are lower by 25% a month! That's great savings! Quote Link to comment
kid_yot
Globe to stop unlimited service promoBy ANNA BARBARA L. LORENZO, Reporter Ayala-led Globe Telecom, Inc. is ditching the "buffet" pricing scheme, leaving what is seen to be a new niche in the telecom market in the hands of its competitors. After a month-long unlimited call and text promotion for the Touch Mobile brand, Globe President Gerardo Ablaza said the offering resulted in service quality which is "not acceptable" for the second largest cellular player. "In our experience, we could see that the behavior of our consumers with the unlimited promo brings about a quality performance similar to our competitors’, which is not an acceptable level of quality for us," he told reporters following Globe’s annual stockholders’ meeting yesterday. Mr. Ablaza said the company has no plan to continue the unlimited call and text promo for Touch Mobile. Globe joined the price war last month through Touch Mobile for a subscription fee of P300 valid for 30 days. The offer was similar to the 24/7 unlimited plan of Gokongwei-led Sun Cellular. Smart Communications, Inc., the leading mobile player, launched its own unlimited promo immediately after Touch Mobile announced its plan. Mr. Ablaza said the promo allowed the company to study the market’s behavior. "Pricing is an evolving situation. We tried to understand the behavior of consumers in the unlimited model and in our conclusion, this kind of pricing paradigm is unsustainable if we are to commit to a certain minimum level of quality any consumer is entitled to," he said. With proof that unlimited mobile communications services result in network congestion, Globe urged the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to be "fair and consistent" in implementing service standards. As regulator, the NTC sets the standards requiring telcos to have a success rate of 97% and a drop call rate of 5%. Mr. Ablaza recalled that some years back, the NTC warned Globe it would be stopped from selling its services if it fails to improve its network. "We are not saying that they [rivals] should not exist. We just want fairness and consistency and that they be subject to the same rules," he said. An analyst said Globe’s trial period for the unlimited services showed it would be better for the company to just focus on its own market segment. "It was a test on their part to see if they could tap the low end of the market. This is an indication they were not that successful. It would be wise to concentrate on their niche, the high-end users, to generate revenues," he said. Mr. Ablaza said subscriber take-up this year is not expected to be as robust as in the previous years as cellular penetration rate nears 40%. He said the promo for Touch Mobile was not intended to get more new subscribers. "Mobile growth in the next 12 to 18 months is not likely to continue at the same pace that we saw in the past four years. The driver of the business will not be focused on subscriber growth. We should start looking at usage and the revenues we generate and not on the subscriber base." Meanwhile, Chief Finance Officer Delfin Gonzalez said Globe will settle at least $170 million worth of loans maturing this year. The company, which makes an average of $600 million in cash from operations, will pay the debts with internally generated funds. With the strengthening of the local currency against the dollar, Mr. Gonzalez said Globe is likely to book between P450 million and P500 million in forex gains. "Half of our loans, about $450 million, is still exposed to dollars. With every P1 appreciation, we will have P450 million to P500 million in forex gains," Mr. Gonzalez said. He said there will also be forex losses on dollar revenue side but said it will just have a minor impact since the company makes only about $60 million in dollar-denominated sales quarterly.
