  1. @Izzecoh: Confirm ko lang sa inyo kung accurate nga ang policy na to: Pag kuha mo ng SSS loan check, you can cash it any PNB branch di po ba?

Kasi ganito nangyari sa akin, I went to the Felix Ave (near Sta Lucia Mall) branch of PNB. The teller there told me I couldn't cash the check there as it should be picked up at either the same city where my company is based or where I reside (ang labo nga e, I don't know which of the two talaga ang dapat sundin according to her). According to her, there were specific PNB branches who had jurisdiction over cashing SSS checks. I told her that I had already encashed an SSS check at their branch before and the check clearly states it can be encashed at any SSS branch. She had me talk to a Supervisor or Manager ata who then allowed me to cash the check there. But the teller still charged me 50 pesos for encashing the check at their branch.

Are you aware of this practice/policy? If so, SSS should better inform their members so as to avoid misleading people and not waste people's precious time.

  2. PNB Felix Ave branch in Cainta near Sta Lucia Mall sucks! I went there to cash my SSS loan check which clearly states that it can be cashed at any PNB branch. When it was my turn (my number was 43, when I arrived it was just number 19 - so imagine how long I waited), the teller told me that I couldn't encash it at their branch as it should be cashed in the same city where my company was based at, which was QC. I told her I already encashed an SSS check at their branch back in 2003 and encountered no such policy. My check and valid IDs had been validated by someone from their customer service counter when I arrived so I asked her why this wasn't raised back then. She still maintained the supposed policy and had me talk to another personnel, I don't know if it was a manager. Anyway, this personnel did give the go signal for me to cash my check there. When my name was called by the same teller to get my money, she still said that there would be 50-peso charge for cashing the check at their branch. I said ok and didn't argue anymore as I was already sleepy coming from graveyard shift.

In addition to the sucky service, ang luma na ng office nila. Wala atang maintenance sa branch nila.

  3. how about quezon city? any bars or establishments that show the game live on sat? san exactly pla sa podium nagpapalabas?

In the QC area, you can go to Gweilos in Eastwood City Libis. I was able to watch the Germany-Argentina and Germany-Italy games here. They used to charge 250 bucks consumable per table. However, nung semis, they started charging 100 bucks as entrance fee and was not consumable. bad trip nag nung France-Portugal game, there was an interruption of the live feed beginning the 2nd half and I don't think it was ever restored that morning.

  4. What a stirring upset by France over Brazil! Zidane is drawing up his last vestiges of greatness at the appropriate time at the expense of Ronaldo who may have played his last World Cup.

Portugal dashed England's hopes by beating them on penalty kicks. I think England to Football is like the Philippines to Asian Basketball: they're a bunch of stars hyped up by the local media saying that it could be their year to win it all and each time they go home disappointed.

So the semis, look like this:

    Germany vs Italy

    France vs Portugal

I predict it would be Germany vs France in the final, with the German team coming up with a hometown win.

  5. @Alucard: He, he. Sports na rin pala ang porn industry 'no? He, he.

    Kobe

    Michael Jordan (I've always been a Jordan-hater)

    Karl Malone (damn choker!)

    Dennis Rodman

    Isaiah Thomas (for dissing Bird)

Bill Laimbeer (he invented flopping in the NBA)

    UAAP:

Joseph Yeo (kilala ko kuya mo, pareho kayong mga intsik behong tulo laway)

Vitto Lazatin - he simply sucks

Noli Eala - kulang sa diskarte sa pag-manage ng PBA 'to.

  6. As mentioned in the post above, X-Men 3 was the end of the trilogy of the first three X-Men films thus the sub-title "The Last Stand". I've read somewhere that more film projects involving the X-Men are in store for the future, the most immediate of which are two offshoot films. The first is a solo Wolverine movie and the second is a store that would concentrate on Magneto and his friendship and eventual rivaly with Xavier.

  7. I really liked X-men 3. I liked the ending and how Wolvie 'saved' Jean Grey by killing Phoenix.

It's too bad that the writers didn't create a major role for Angel other than being the son of a wealthy businessman who financed a cure for being a mutant. As part of the original X-men in the comic, you'd expect that they'd have him a major role and be part of the battle scenes.

Also, I had no idea who played the part of Beast until my friend told me it was Kelsey Grammer (of Frasier fame). He was perfect for the role now that I think about it.

I think it would be very impossible to expect the movie to remain truly faithful and consistent with the X-Men comic book continuity. The X-Men world is so vast and complicated that it would be impossible for the screenwriters to include everything in the movie. Case in point, the screenwriters did made no mention of Professor X and Juggernaut's familial ties. I guess that wasn't a focal point in the story for them. And also, some mutant heroes in the comic like Multiple Man turn out to be villains in the movie.

    Subject: Re: THE CORRESPONDENTS

    Dear Evelyn,

Thank you for sending me a copy of Menice Yap's

    e-mail. I wish I had her e-mail address so that I

could respond to her directly, but

since I don't, perhaps you could forward my e-mail

    to her?

First of all, I wonder if Menice actually watched the

entire episode last March 6? The purpose of the

episode was to show both the good side of working

in a call center, as well as the down side. We

wanted to encourage employers to take better care

of employees, but we also wanted aspiring call

center agents to weigh the risks carefully before

    joining the industry.

When we said there was "no age limit", and that "a

college diploma is not required", we meant it in a

positive way. Reading Menice Yap's e-mail, it

would appear she was defensive about this. We

think it's great that even Pinoys in their 40s and

50s can get a job in a call center.

And how encouraging that those who don't have

the means to finish a college education STILL have

the opportunity to get a decent, high paying job!

The only way Menice could have misinterpreted

this is if she had not watched the episode. She

also mentioned Wil Ison. If she had watched the

program, she would have seen that we DID

applaud the fact that he was a manager at such a

    young age.

When we said "magaang na trabaho"- this was

based on interviews with several call center

representatives ON camera and OFF camera.

Many of them said the most difficult part of the job

was the schedule, as well as speaking with irate

callers- difficulties which we certainly mentioned in

the story. There was no intention to demean the

job of call center agents, nor to dismiss it as

menial. We agree with Menice that intelligence is

essential to the job. NOWHERE in the episode

was the contrary insinuated. In fact, the men and

women we interviewed are all very intelligent.

Again, there was no need for Menice to be

    defensive.

And what's wrong with saying that it's "in" to work

in a call center? That's certainly how a good

number of young people feel. That was not meant

to insult. It was just meant to reflect how a good

number of agents feel about working in this

industry. Again she was being defensive when she

said " we are working, we are paying taxes, we

are being productive." We KNOW you are working,

paying taxes and being productive! I don't

understand where Menice Yap's hostility is

comming from. We certainly did not say that ALL

call center agents are "obese smoking

insomniacs". However it IS a FACT that a

growing number of agents have become overweight

or obese, have insomnia, and have begun to

smoke. And this is an issue that agents and

employers should be concerned about! It is also

useful information for those aspiring to work in the

    industry.

The final paragraph of Menice's e-mail betrays her

knowledge of the story we presented. She

said, "why not thank us?... ask the government to

provide security to the employees who have

different schedules from the normal 9-5 workers?

ask them to take care of us." Menice, THAT'S

WHAT WE WERE TRYING TO DO !!! In fact, let

me reiterate that our aim was to call attention to

the upside and downside of working in a call

center, and as far as the downside was concerned,

we wanted government and industry employers to

take better care of employees. We're not the

    enemy!

Thanks for your time, Evelyn, and I hope this e-

mail somehow finds its way to Menice so that

    these issues may be clarified.

    Sincerely,

    Gigi

I didn't get to watch this episode. But the teaser/ad for the epidose turned me off when it said that a call center job was "madali ang trabaho/malaki ang swueldo". I can agree that compared to other industries, the entry level salary in call centers is considerably high. But the job is NOT easy. The initial impression of people of a call center job is simply answering phone calls and doing menial tasks. They fail to see the complexity of the job which entails a rep to solve problems over the phone with callers coming from a different cultural background.

I for one, certainly am very appreciative that this industry developed into what it is now. If I didn't get into the call center industry and pursued work based on my college degree, I would've been a production slave for those media outfits such abs-cbn.
