  1. Try nyo sir sa Octoboy sa banawe (near Retiro now Amoranto) at sa T. Morato. Masarap sa kanila Takoyaki at yung Japanese pizza nila (Okonomiyake) shrimp. Strictly speaking Gyoza might be the closest Japanese dish to chinese dimsum. If you're after authentic Japanese dishes go to Little Tokyo this is near Mile Long along Pasong Tamo - in front of Plaza Fair may parang Japanese grocery cum restaurant. Food is great. You can also try the different restaurants nearby. Most of them owned by Japanese. They have cable in Japanese language, comics and reading materials in Japanese. Their curry dishes are good as well. Try experimenting on the food you will find there, it is likely you'll enjoy the experience.

yoshinoya's siumai is probably adopted from chinese siomai (?)

  2. tama ka dyan bossing

    sari sariling panlasa natin

    ang punto ko lang:

    karamihan kasi dito

    ang basehan nila para

    sa best dimsum ay dahil

eat all you can o may discount

hindi nabanggit kung masarap o hinde

matanong lang naman kita, pareng pain, saan ang peborit mong bilihan/kainan ng dimsum? baka pwedeng dalhim mo sa sd at ipulutan natin yan? hehehe

i've tried kowloon house's siopaos. they're dense and you'd really get the feeling of fullness pero tastewise, hmm ... very bland unless you spurt in their run-of-the-mill sauce

mga pards, ito naman tanong lang ... are there japanese foods you might consider as equivalent to chinese dimsums? recent menus from tempura, teriyaki boy, etc. show items that can be categorized as experimental (pardon the word) or daring.

  3. I am now using a Nokia 1208. Had sick phones b4 and now I decided to lay low coz I figured out I was just wasting money on CP's before. I got the 5110 when it first came out (I was just in high school), Bosch, SE P800, SE P910i, Nokia 5510, Nokia 3300, Nokia N-Gage and some others I can't remember.

i agree we have to stop keeping up with the joneses: there's always a better phone with zillions of features. ironically, we only need a few features for most of our needs. in my case i applied the 80-20 principle and i found out i only need the following features in a phone:

dual sim (a triple sim would be nicer though - one globe or smart, one sun, one landline mobile. however, i didn't like the 3-sim models in the market)

loud ringtones (why else would one use a cellphone if he gets a lot of unanswered calls and unread messages? turn down the volume as needed)

    clear reception

backlit keypad (full qwerty if available)

    good contrast screen at outdoors

programmable buttons for frequently used functions

    durable yet lightweight

i found these all in alcatel's ot-335d. price is 1800 in greenhills.

for the other missing features (actually it has a camera, radio, gprs and media player) i prefer to bring along an ipod touch. hehehe

  4. traditional dimsums consists of the ff:

    a. gao (dumplings) - whether fried or steamed it is the standard in majority of teahouses.(shaomai, siomai is considered a gao)

    b. bao - baked or steamed buns eg. siu bao or siopao

    c. chicken feet

    d.steamed meatballs

    e. spare ribs

    f. glutinous rice

    g. congee

    h. rolls ,cakes and sweets usually tarts

    i. and lastly rice noodle rolls eg hofans

    hth

i still remember eating my share of dimsums at chinatown ongpin. lai lai mandarin and royal garden usually every sunday 7am with my mom and dad..

    parang ang hirap ngang i-classify:

there's also chicken with mushrooms, and so is taro puffs and different variations of steamed tofu.

there's also the matter of consistency in branches: i prefer the chicken feet of david's teahouse t.morato than the one in david's teahouse malate.

  6. panu ba masasabi na ang

isang lugar ay da best sa dimsum

    eh diba maraming klase ang

    dimsum?

    panu kaya kung masarap ang

    siopao nila tapuz naman

    hindi masarap ang siomai

oo nga naman, dapat i-segregate ang fr's ng different dimsums. for example, i just got home from siao long (greenhills), ordered 3 different dimsums (spicy something?, bitesized siopaos, and another, sorry i'm very tipsy tonight while posting this). didn't like the taste of any of them. i might as well had eaten at a much cheaper joint. in my opinion though ...

  7. greenhills residents go there in the morning to jog walk and socialize. most of them are senior citizens who are regulars at jolibee and other fastfoods. many of them are too such cheapskates such that jolibee has to ask for the receipt to refill their coffee since most oldie groups there just order a couple of breakfast meal then share the coffee. ironic since these grannies are the filthy rich and would spend so much on on premium xiao long bao in ding tai feng when going to taipei. most of them would just try crystal jade once or twice then go back to the cheaper fastfoods

old rich chinese considers greenhills as preferred residence of nouveau riche (at least during the 50's to 70's thinking), binondo being the old fashioned residence of their parents/ancestors. anyway, being a storeowner in virramall (now, v-mall) and a resident of san juan for 20 years one can't help but observe. these same old chinese joggers were brought up in the old way: save, save, save! during lunch they huddle together in unimart's restaurant (spaghetti!) and in the morning you'll see a pack of them in tropical hut (there was maxim's on top of that 4 years ago) where they order toasts. you'll seldom see them at night

  8. are you talking about the greenhills branch of Gloria Maris ???? I don't seem to notice any restaurant beside it. Actually, I do remember Gloria Maris is a stand alone building.

let me see, there's a goldilocks at its back, ...

sorry my memory fails me, but i think there were 2 or 3 small food shops around it 2 years ago, can't really say if one of them is hongkong' finest. actually, i did not notice their sign, if there's any

  9. any feedback on the new triple sim cellphones? planning to acquire one instead of carrying two cellphones all the time B) TIA

triple sim? transmitting signals to 3 networks simultaneously would require triple drainage on battery even during idle times. expect a large and powerful battery to go with it!

triple sim? transmitting signals to 3 networks simultaneously would require triple drainage on battery even during idle times. expect a large and powerful battery to go with it!

    for a cheap dual sim phone, i'm currently using a myphone q19i. it's feature-packed for a 2300-peso phone:

    querty keypad

    programmable navigational keys

    works like an i-mobile

and you can set the volume up to blast the ears of everyone around! hahaha

  10. while nokia centers were selling their n8's for 23,699 greenhills tiangge stall were selling theirs at 23k flat with free 16gig microsd! greenhills had their stock ready but preferred to wait for nokia's launching before they brought out their wares.

i'd been hearing bad comments about n8 like, if you let it drained the battery won't charge again! also, its push email is erratic, it doesn't update or very late (as in, days!) in updating at all.

and the worst part is, it's all true according to my friends in nokia and smart!

i call it 'new entrant blues'. the technology isn't perfect for first batch models, the correcting firmware isn't far but a few months wait is in order. yeah, the first explorers get the first arrows

  11. if i were to believe the wonders of n8's still shots and hd video, then it's a bargain at 23k especially if the buyer doesn't own a digicam yet (that's minus 8k at least for a cam with hd video). however, if someone can spend 23k for a phone, surely he already owns a digicam. hehehe. or maybe i'm wrong -- i know at least 2 guys who own expensive cellphones but had never been tempted to buy even a cheap digicam. ah, the consumer's mind is really a deep well of mystery

so if that link's review is correct, then it follows that carrying an n8 (it's almost as light as an ipod touch) is like bringing along a bag with a gps unit (using sirf III antenna! omg!), a digicam, a cellphone with internet capability, a flashlight, an audio/video player, a tiny tv tuner (via internet connection), a mini computer (capable to read/edit/save ms office files), a radio, a video game unit, a calculator, an organizer, etc. that's a perfect example of a multi-functional product. if you're a road warrior, this is indeed a lightweight solution to your aching back! as to whether you'll frequently use any of these is entirely up to your lifestyle. now, 23,699 pesos divided by 365 days comes up to be 65 pesos a day. guys, your daily beer consumption beats that!

nope, i'm wasn't paid by nokia to post this. hehehe

  12. for me, a trip to puerto princesa is not complete if i don't drop by at kinabuch's (rizal ave).

as usual, i asked the waiter if they have tamilok (wood worm). this time the gods were kind, "meron po" were the sweetest words i heard this side of town.

i ordered the raw dish (the other tamilok in menu is cooked and breaded).

although it's not oyster, it's the nearest taste i can compare with. admittedly, it's difficult to describe its taste because you have to taste it yourself.

did it go well with beer? like hell it did. though no taste lingered in my mouth, it's customary to gulp down anything alien with beer. hehehe

this is quite a list! 3 bows to you, master sexsal. you must've been a drinking master for quite some time. btw, is san jacinto still in business? i remember their mami is tops but i don't see their signboard anymore

too bad conching's (quezon ave) has gone out of business. just passed by at their mother restaurant in cebu. it's full-packed with diners and drinkers as usual.

  14. Thanks sa detailed tip bro. We're planning to go there either Dec. or early next year :)

    try also crowne regency's sky walk (starting 10am), it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience

  15. Thanks a lot sir but i checked and it's still in warranty where i bought it at ROBINSON'S GALLERIA....

    will just check it there..

    thanks again for the advise!!

    :ninja:

regardless where you bought it (i buy my nokia phones in greenhills), any nokia center will accept the warranty once you show them your receipt. if you bring your unit to robinson's, that store will be sending your unit to a nokia center too. they've got good technicians there

  16. to those NOKIA 5800 users, any feedback on your phones?? mine has been hanging from time to time and to think i still have 1.1GB of free memory....

bring it to any nokia center (my favorite is their t. morato branch, it's the least visited), maybe it needs a new firmware upgrade or a virus might had crept in. they won't charge you anything

  17. Oh that place is good, the only problem is that the line of diners is so loooooooong

but nah nah in the morning, i was there last week (monday or tuesday) from 10 till almost noon, no customers but me! but at high noon, people packed it in droves! i supposed its weekdays are weak days, same as the others. then again, greenhills shoppers are lazy to roam in the morning. hehehe

  18. if i were to believe the wonders of n8's still shots and hd video, then it's a bargain at 23k especially if the buyer doesn't own a digicam yet (that's minus 8k at least for a cam with hd video). however, if someone can spend 23k for a phone, surely he already owns a digicam. hehehe. or maybe i'm wrong -- i know at least 2 guys who own expensive cellphones but had never been tempted to buy even a cheap digicam. ah, the consumer's mind is really a deep well of mystery

  19. diehards of apple and samsung will swear by their iphone and galaxy, this 'dream toy' deserves a little more scrutiny. check out the following link:

  20. just yesterday nokia centers started showing a dummy of nokia n8. it's a dummy that plays back its features. they said it's that light (and i say it's really light). the small texts were really tiny (about 5 or 6 points) but extremely readable thanks to its highres screen. the dummy provides interaction by allowing you to press some keys so it can show you more features. it will become available by october 23. early birds get 16g mem cards, bags, etc.

    introductory price is 23,600

  21. just been to a nokia center. they got this new dual sim phone (their first in the line, nokia's a me-too this time, but it's not their first me-too product) but even the staff are not so excited selling it. they kept saying to us customers to wait till their next dual-sim model gets in. the culprit is this: there's no dual-standy mode. meaning, you can put in 2 sims before covering them with the battery but you can use only 1 sim at a time. the switch key doesn't help at all.

yeah, we filipinos are so pampered with multi-featured phones we like the best without even applauding for them. no wonder the staff told me to wait until their september's new dual-sim release which has dual-standy (promise?)

anyway, i ended up buying an i-mobile. it's probably the phone of my dreams (hey, i've bought phones that costed much much more but this really answered my needs) after all it's a lightweight dual-sim phone with loud ringtones (how can you beat that, cherry mobile? how can you top that, myphone?) compared to my last myphone (i already got two, both of which are very unsatisfactory in sound department) which give out strong ringtones (call or text) even when it's inside my bag!!! i'm not closing the book though, who knows? the forthcoming nokia dual sim might be 'perfecter'. hehehe

it's got tv feature but i'm not a tv sort of guy, but it's sure good to know it's available if i wanted to watch.

  22. Hi.

can you recommend a safe place to stay (budget of 1,500) in Mandaue City, along a.s.fortuna st.?

first time to visit cebu for work assignment, so prefer ko sana near the area of work para hindi na mahirapan.

    thanks

try ford's inn. if you're coming from mactan, it's along fortuna st. sa dulo

  23. rudys pares in retiro and delta

i remember this place in delta. people line up behind its stools during peak hours. masarap talaga ang pares nila. taga greenhills pa ako nun pero dinadayo namin lugar na to because rudy's beef pares

when rudy perished, the place was ran by his daughter but the ownership (and the menu) had changed a number of times since then.
