  1. guess those (mostly) stingy senior citizens is not an isolated case...... I was once dining with my parents in one of those restos along alonzo st. (LIDO resto I think) An acquaintance of my dad approached and sat with us for some chit chat.

Seeing that my father was having some coffee with (Evaporated) milk being used as the cream.... he asked the waitress for a glass of hot water. (which is free) and just used the Evap Milk to fix himself a glass of hot milk.

Lets hope some of Binondo's New Generation won't be as stingy as the older generation was.......

sad to say, Lido closed shop already. their Greenhills and West Ave. branches won't serve asado (pugon-cooked) anymore after the T. Alonzo (main) branch folded up. the branches' pancit canton (good for 2, 180 bucks) is commendable, so is the spareribs in salt and pepper (190 bucks)

  2. if we define authentic japanese restaurant as a restaurant whose food are prepared by a japanese cook. i'd like to recommend the japanese restaurant (forgot the name) at LTO coastalmall. he knows he's at the wrong place for the wrong crowd so his dishes (cooked with all-japanese ingredients) are priced much less than other 'authentic jap restos'. the guy has pride in his work. he's happy to talk to anybody unless he's busy at his kitchen

  3. globe visibility prepaid, anyone??? hope other same users can share their horror/success stories.... other times it's either the office or the local cafe

many bad connections in qc and elsewhere. had mine returned. globe did not charge termination fee, they know their problem. same goes with smart bro - bad connections in many places too

  4. most landowners in binondo think their land is worth billions and jack up their rentals only to find tenants moving out one by one.

stange but most of tsinoy binondo residents do not own the land there. most of the land specifically in ongpin and nearby areas are mostly owned by the padillas and madrigals. the manner in which they got the lands is still very controversial

very true. i believe binondo land still tops the price per square meter. never mind it's so crowded and many old houses are just waiting to be torched, the traffic in manila probably started in this place, etc.

in a few more years it's magic will be gone, to be overtaken by fastfoods, giant malls and tall buildings. i wonder if 'ang tunay na beef' (gandara) and 'salazar bakery' (ongpin) are still there. there was also a restaurant in carvajal that's famous for its fried chicken and oyster cake (both cooked in old fukien way)
