Since we're a bit on Halloween....

Remember how, in the 70s, we never celebrated Halloween?  It was really so foreign to us.

Uso na noon ang halloween party. Lahat ng Discos, meron. Pati Shakey's meron na rin noon.

There was also the term "square" which referred to fight without weapons.  Walang restbackan din. In school, pagnagkakainitan na, sasabihin, "Ano, mamaya?"  Back in high school, those fights were spectacles.  They often happened after class...and often with an audience.

Yes I remember this. The Bedan tradition was to square it off "sa likod ng swimming pool". Got my first black eye at the age of 11. Grade 4 or 5 yata ako nun. Pero yung kaklase ko, nabawasan na ng isa yung ngipin niya pagpasok niya sa klase the next day. He evenutally because one of my long standing friends....

sa amin naman sa Pasig - sa sementeryo as our school was located right beside a church and a cemetery. After class we would clamber over the walls to the cemetery para mapanuod yung mag-ssquare...16track knows this as well :P

E yung BTS at FF naaalala niyo?

Bed Time Stories.

Diba may Tagalog at English versions niyan? That was actually how I got my first exposure to these "novels". :D :P :D

If you pass by Recto, mayroong mga pabulong magaalok sa yo. "BTS" . . ."BTS" . . .same style ng pagbebenta ng "DVD" . . ."DVD" ngayon sa Greenhills. One time, my friends and I pitched in and decided we're all gonna buy one and share. The guy handed something wrapped in a brown bag then swiftly walked away. It turned out, hindi naman pala BTS yung laman nung supot kundi song hits lang! But what can we do? We were just kids at that time. We were hoodwinked!

Sayang sa girls..walang mga "CAT FIGHTS"...if we do have to settle a score..

Do you remember in the 70's when girls were branded as having a "PAKA" rep ???? Comparing it to the young girls of today, those women back in the 70''s were WHOLESOME. :)

Talaga!! At that time, one had to protect her rep*tation at all costs! Pero, pag "sira" ka na, lubus-lubusin mo na!! (As in, what else is there to protect??) Talk-of-the-boys'-school ka pa!!

And if you hung around with this kind of group, stereo-typed ka na. Birds of the same feather, flock together... birds of the same flock, feather together... same thing!

GAL and WNCAA Games.... flirting time again!!!

Yeh I remember watching a couple of those at the Loyola Gym. My first GF was from CHS and back then, CHS was still part of the WNCAA and she would ask me to come. Syempre sama naman ako.

How true! Those days, maka second base lang, okay na. Guys had a feeling that if they go beyond third base, they'd have to marry the girl! Kaya rin sa barkada, we'd get excited about girls from certain exclusive schools (won't mention them here) as they are reputed to be more liberal. This is all BS of course.

As the eighties and nineties kicked in, the opportunities to score all the way dramatically increased. Don't know if it's the era OR if it were simply a matter of us coming of age. Before I got hitched, I had the chance to go out with girls ten years younger than me, and boy! They have a very different attitude from girls my age. Para lang silang nagka-sugat. . .

Noong '70s kasi you had to rely on your imagination a lot.

Kaya naman mas naging creative tayo! :D :P :D

Also, although the early 70s had its share of bomba films, for most part of the decade, it was down to the "wet look" especially during Martial Law. Imagination pa rin ang kailangan. That's why we had FF although the grown ups wouldn't allow us kids to watch these films which were not widely available anyway. Imagination was key!

:D :D Good one Liberty!!!

In our times we call "strutting" in the GAL / WNCAA as flirting so we would be noticed by the cutie boys (then) ...Now they call it RAMPA and Hala !!!! with the intent to bring bag one of those cuties... Its really a generational thing..

After all these years, my girl-friends and I (PromdQ should second this :P ) have realized that it all come down to this... When you were young sweet thing , you had to PROTECT your REP :hypocritesmiley: ...but when you get older you BUILD a REP.

Sa guys ba may REP issues din? Ha? mga chick-boys? :boo:

yeah that was the term then - PAKA - which I think is POKPOK now, but I've also been hearing pokpok then...

back in those days, your preference in cigarettes would either have to be "pula" (Marlboro) or "puti" (Philip Morris). Curiously, in Pasig, cigarettes are also called "saga" - I don't have any idea on the etymology of this term.

Pag senglot na yung isa and he throws up, we say, "Si ano, bumubuga na dun sa tabi."

Pareng bods, I think there's a difference between "paka" and "pokpok." Paka was the short term for "pakawala." A paka was never paid. She did it because she wanted to. A pokpok, on the other hand (someone correct me here) is what we used to refer to as a pick-up...in other words, a professional.

By the way, I never actually met a paka. And if I had, she probably found me uninteresting.

Tama ka the term PokPok was already used then..difference is Paka was free while Pokpok was for pay. I know that the present day term Pokpok means the same, with the term PILYA replacing Paka. :)
