trebbie
Sabi training with the tree yung tagalog word for weaving. Yung mga practice form. I think you meant sinawali, right? Quote Link to comment
trebbie
real-life fights are completely different though. I agree with you on this. Like I mentioned in a previous post, high and fancy kicks are out in a streetfight. Quote Link to comment

Guest fhoryou
reading the history is sometimes good and finding out about real fights. have you read about the tondo revolution when the spaniards are trying to conquer the land. The natives where there with this datu and his big sword. then with him is a samurai and some other revolutionist. Quote Link to comment
jumborat
I saw this great site about weapons fighting! Go to http://www.manilapitbulls.com/ Didn't know that there's a weapon fighting group here in Manila that trains in White Plains. Personally, I think that we Filipinos are better skilled than our Japanese counterparts in terms of the art of weaponry. Quote Link to comment

Try high kicking in a busy eskinita against 2 or 3 knife weilding assailants. Baka maputol lang hita mo hehe Quote Link to comment

Guest fhoryou
Guys if you want real fight and use of skills meron pa rin naman dito sa pinas. I heard they still do undeground fighting. That was what the escrimadors used to do. I muslim people from mindanao used to get fighters from visaya and have them fight to the death. Its a stake of life and death. Another one I heard there is still underground fighting pero hirap talaga makasali unless you know someone or ur well known in your field of skill. Mostly this is test of skill until all your bones crack. Quote Link to comment

NytCrawler
2 years nako sa taekwando pero hanggang ngayon matigas pa rin katawan ko. d ko parin kayang mag split. any tips for flexibility? Quote Link to comment
elke_weis
you can't speed-up a full side split. it takes years. my advise, avoid the 'bouncing-type' of stretching done in most martial arts schools. they're un-scientific and could lead to muscle/ligament damage. stretching should be slow and gradual (like the ones done by gymnasts and ballerinas). In my experience, I've only hurt people in a dojo when I was: A. NewB. Wasn't paying attention to what I was doing. It takes a lot of control and presence of mind to hold back and still execute your moves. Going all-out doesn't really require control. Edited May 28, 2003 by trebbie Quote Link to comment
hellspawn
just finished reading all pages in this thread and would like to add a few things: krav maga- have trained under eyal yanilov, head of krav maga, and i can say that it is effective, vicious and suitable for all body types. the students were composed of beginners and experienced martial artists, but eyal has a way of getting the information across quickly and clearly which is the hallmark of an experienced practicioner and good instructor. unfortunately he hasn't been back here in awhile, but we hope to see him again soon. capoeira- have been fortunate enough to train under mestre marcello caveirinha of capoeira mandinga and mestre jogo de dentro of capoeira angola. even though it was only for one (very painful) day, i'm grateful for the knowledge and information about capoeira and life that these two gentlemen were able to impart to a large and varied class. axe! fighting- bruce lee said that the best training for an event was to do the event. i wanted to fight, but didn't know how to go about it without legal troubles. then i read a couple of books by geoff thompson about his experiences as a doorman (bouncer). i got a job as a doorman and was able to try out a lot of what i've been training in without refs, rules, rings or regulations and, no surprise, 90% of it didn't work. when you've got three large drunks looking to kick your head in and the other doorman is busy with three other drunks you learn to talk very fast or, as geoff thompson puts it: "learn to hit f#&king hard". i highly recommend his books, you can also check out his website. bruce lee- trebbie is right, there is no proof that lee ever fought in the philippines, or that he fought a filipino who defeated him. lee did have several fights since he was always being challenged by stuntmen or extras in his movies, but he never lost. the most balanced account i've read of lee's life and mysterious death is titled "unsettled matters, the life and death of bruce lee". can't remember the author but it is probably the least biased book about him. to pique your interest, did you know marijuana was found in his system during the autopsy, and that his tremendous physique was the result of....read the book. this whole bruce lee versus unknown filipino story has been around for years, unfortunately, like horoscopes, people still believe it. admittedly it's not as stupid as believing that bruce lee fought muhammad ali but i have come across somebody who actually says this. bluebacon
hmmmm... I've tried several grappling arts, pero ang pinakagusto ko ay freestyle wrestling. ayaw nung iba kc baka daw masakit sa katawan.. pero mas sumakit katawan ko sa judo and karate. At habang tumatagal lalo akong natatakot sa away.. weird no? Pero siguro na-realize ko lang na kahit anong mangyari may masasaktan sa aming dalawa ng kalaban ko (at nakakhiya kung ako! hehehehe). Now since busy sa work wla na masyado training... buti pa un iba sa inyo, nakakaingit! . Nakaka-miss kc mag-train. Keep cool mga tol. And remember you do not have to fight to be a man.... pero pag pag binastos gf ninyo... barilin ninyo agad! hehehehe... peace! Quote Link to comment
