Traffic Problem In Metro Manila (Merged Thread)

Recommended Posts

Ako may solusyon sa trapik. First things first. PAG RED, STOP, PAG GREEN, GO. Now. if may mahuli siyang bus or jeep, lets say beating the red light, im not sure how much penalty a, lets say 2000 pesos. Its about observing traffic rules and regulations lang. Malaki maitutulong nito sa traffic in metro manila.

I don't get why a lot of people complain to the president about the traffic, when we have a specific government bodies that should be held accountable for the bad traffic conditions we have now namely, the MMDA, LTFRB and the local government units within the cities. Anyway, based on my observation and analysis:

To boil the traffic problem in one sentence: Car volume exponentially increases every year while road capacity stays the same

Economically, if Metro Manila has a very efficient Public transportation system (i.e. Singapore) it doesn't make sense to buy/own a car.

Now, here are some of my short term solutions* and recommendations that I suggest are the following:

*Trains count as long term since it takes more than 2 years to build one*

1. Increase public transportation vehicles (Buses, jeeps, UV's and etc.)

PUV's maximize the people being transported with the least road space consumed, rather than 1 person driving his/her own car. What I would suggest is that companies in Metro manila can provide shuttle service from work-home or P2P style. Even if there's a fee, I think a lot of people would still choose this option vs. driving their own car to work.

2. Strictly enforce the coding scheme and place MMDA's in strategic locations (such as, Tollgates and exits in SLEX, Coastal and etc.)

There are a lot of ways/roads to exploit and avoid MMDA during coding. But almost all cars will funnel and slow down at Tollgates/exits. Placing MMDA's there will make it very easy to catch coding offenders.

3. Abolish low down payment options for acquiring a car.

This might be a little self-centered (sorry for those working in the auto-industry) but, car companies are offering crazy low DP ( I even saw one car no DP) to get a car, now this makes it very accessible and easy for even a minimum wage earner to get a car. The problem with this is that this increases the car volume which makes the traffic even worse. Again, the main goal here is to minimize the car volume and maximize road space/capacity.

What do you guys think? Please feel free to share your thoughts on this.

I'll agree with 1 and 2. Syempre may mga time na gusto nila mag family outing at the comfort of their own vehicle. More buses and a more coaches to our LRT/MRT should be better. And like I've posted before. Discipline. Especially the PUJ's and PUB's. Walang disiplina talaga. They are stopping on.3 lanes para kumuha ng pasahero. Businahan mo, sila pa galit. And these won't change dahil may corrupt na traffic enforcer.

Definitely agree, I'm sorry about #3 though, I meant for it to reduce car volume on work days/rush hours and it shouldn't restrict it for family/recreational activities. and yes discipline is a huge factor in reducing traffic, because they congest and block road ways. Looking at it though, the main culprits/people to blame for why PUJ's and PUB's are behaving that way, are the owners of the company and how they are being incentivized.

I know that most PUV drivers are being subjected to the "Quota" system (i.e. maximize number of passengers in a trip). That's why they're forced to stop at every corner and waiting for passengers even if they are blocking the road. Because of they don't reach this quota, they get punished. If they do, they get rewarded. It's the classic carrot vs. stick behavior.

That is why many are opposing the luxury tax on vehicles. Though honestly it would really help in easing the traffic. The quota system is not an excuse to block almost every lane. They stop and go as they wish, tapos ung vendors pa pala. Unless traffic rules and regulations are followed, there will never be a solution for the traffic in metro. Stop pointing fingers at the president, MMDA etc. We start from ourselves.

That's true. What sets the Philippines apart with other countries (i.e. Singapore, Japan etc) when it comes to dealing with traffic is that they respect and obey the traffic rules and regulations. But still, the government should be held "accountable", accountable in a sense that it's their job to do so or what's expected of them and what we're (taxpayers) paying them to do so because they set up and influence the macro-structure in which how individuals and companies behave.

I AGREE with Chaser comments. . Si Wooer has a very sharp memory of Digong. nag mura pa sa Santo Papa... This thread would like to point out tthat Digong is not aware inspite of his brilliant mangers and consultants ..... he is just repeating the mistakes of the past..

Modernization ba ng public vehicles can solve the road congestion.???

Ano ba talaga ang gagawin?

Mura dito mura doon ma so solve ba ang Traffc.

i think we have to say that the strength of Duterte as a leader is him supposedly being a good administrator. I hear stories like pinakain daw ni then mayor digong yun upos ng sigarilyo dahil may isang nagsiga-sigaan na pasaway na naninigarilyo isang restaurant. Ayun sinampolan para di na umulit.

Pro duterte have high hope that under Digong's leadership we could possibly duplicate the disipline instilled by Lee Kuan Yeu to the Singaporeans.

Ang disiplina wala sa namumuno yan. Nasa puso nating lahat. LELS.

Parang ganito

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/metro/632864/maria-isabel-lopez-apologizes-for-driving-on-asean-lane/story/

Eto ang dapat pinaparusahan ng husto. Rules are rules. Kapag pasaway ka, suffer the consequences.

Illegal talaga yan. But. Parang mas nakatulong sila sa traffic a. Kasi let's say 10 ang sumakay. Assuming ung 10 un may sasakyan.

Parang Davao daw?

Before Digong decided to run for president. I discussed it with my chinese friend. I told him that in Davao there is no corruption, very safe, everyone is following the rules and regulations etc etc because their mayor is very strict and hates corrupt, and everyone is very disciplined. I kept in building up Digong. I remember it clearly what he told me. That won't. Davao is small compared to Philippines. Hindi mo kayang baguhin ang nakaugalian. Iluluwa ng mga nakaugalian. Discipline starts from oneself. Kung ang china daw sobrsng strikto na, pero ang dami pa din mga gago, what more dito sa Pinas. Now I believe him.

I remember early on his presidency, there were lots of talks about the Duterte Effect, or as one blogger puts it "people kind of 'fall in line' without need to be arrested or whatever".

It's just interesting to note that Duterte supporters now don't think this is possible. And I am guessing there are other expectations that they are now just finding out that are unattainable, so in response they tend to now lower their expectations. Filipinos will be Filipinos and behaviors will not change overnight (or because of one president).

I think instead of setting sight on the expectation they are now managing it.

Parang when the usec for transportation was interviewed on what to expect in line with the government takeover of mrt operations. Ang sagot we cannot do miracles but we promise accountability. In otherwords sabi niya halimbawa maaga pa lang sasabihin na nila ganito lang karaming bagon ang kayang patakbuhin today so people should expect mahaba ang pila. So kung mga 30 min to 1 hr ang haba ng pila then agahan mo by that time para di ka mahuli ... ayos ganun pala ang accountability sabihin mo problema then kayo naman wag mag expect at mag adjust accordingly. In short managing/lowering expectations.

Now depende yan kung pro or con duterte.

Araw araw ako nag MMRT LRT e hahaha. But napansin mo ba na they didnt point fingers to the previous administration? Pwede nilang sabihin kakagawan kasi ni Abaya to e. Or ni Mar to e. Though syempre they wanted them held accountable for those problems. Ang sang ayon ako diyan. One solution to traffic is more coaches talga. Kahit may sasakyan ka you will still take MRT kasi mas mabilis and comfortable. If mas maraming coaches a. Pero if not. GRABE. Daig pa sardinas.

Really? They didn’t point fingers? Hmmp that's another hot issue that is quite debatable so i'll leave that statement as it is. But as i've always reiterated i am in favor of filing a case to those who should be held accountable for any irregularities as far as the maintenance contract entered into by the past admin.

When we talk about maintenance ang mga bagon lang ba dapat minemaintain? What about yun terminal as well as yun mga facilities? Sa totoo lang mukhang pinabayaan over time. Is that proper maintenance? I personally believe napabayaan natin ito over time kaya lumala ng ganito sitwasyon.

Sabi niya sa ngayon ang plano pa rin kasi ng gobyerno is to use/apply the same old formula on contracting maintenance provider. So from his statement i do think it further validated un pananaw ko.

Just being honest

I think ginagawa na ung mga trains connecting to Mindanaos. I think what Digong missed is corruption ( it will take more than him to stop it), traffic, MRT, and my personal concern the telecommunications. Other than that like sugpuin ang drugs ( well, I am not sure if bumaba nga ang bilang )but he is really serious about it, mga help centers like 8888 and the 911. Mga help centers for our OFWs. And one of the ones that I really like is sa mga goverment employees natin naging mas takot na sa atin mga taxpayers. Dati kasi sila ang matapang. Pag sinabing busy sila busy sila. Now hindi na. ( Im not sure if its because of the social media na pag nag viral e natatanggal sila. )
