Traffic Problem In Metro Manila (Merged Thread)

I agree. Driver behavior din is a big factor. Yun din mga illegal terminal, pick up and drop off points lang dapat ginagwang terminal.

Also, alternative and better public transport like a rail system going arond the metro and nearby provinces.

di ko maintindihan bakit di marunong gumamit ng foresight ang mga nasa gobyerno when they do have the statistics to back it up. walang ka foresight foresight ang mga road designs natin. basta makagawa lang ng daan okay na undermining the population of the area or the establishments in the area 5, 10, 15 yrs from now. sa ibang bansa ganun ang takbuhan, pagaaralan ang area, pagiisipan kung anong klaseng zone ba ilalagay, gagawa ng foresight, tpos road construction. dito kakaiba, zones muna tpos daan tapos bahala na.

speaking of zoning, isa pa tong problema kaya congested ang manila traffic. isipin mo ba naman residential, commercial and industrial establishments all compacted near a vital traffic artery! susme! nandyan ang mga malls, working offices, condo units lahat na. naiiling na nga lang ako sa mga ads ng mga realty/ condo, lahat nakalagay near edsa, kampucha ineencourage pa na macongest lalo ung area! kaya maski anong linis nyo ng mga street vendors, anong klaseng laning laning pa or coding schemes gawin, di uubra yan. i just hope the government have the guts to reestablish proper zoning ng mga establshments. ilipat ang mga dapat ilipat, tanggalin ang mga dapat tanggalin ewan lang kung hindi pa makita yung hinahanap na decongestion ng mga pinoy. strong willpower lang naman naghihinder eh.

Because all they care about is exploiting their position in the government, siphoning the resources and privelege entitled to them for their own gain.

Remember these politicians who started in their own local area, are warlords employing violence, eliminating their rivals, cheating, lying, etc to be in their position. And once they elevate to the national level they employ the best PR people to have the best image.

Kung matino ka at talagang clean cut na politico chances are you'll be eliminated sa pagtakbo mo pa lang (lalo na sa provinces), so these f@ckers who are at the top are the best in the game.

So going back to the traffic dilemma and govt services in general. What we're getting actuall is para lang masabi na we still have a functioning govt, but as far as them doing their job, let's just forget it.

Just look around, traffic situation in the metro. Every man for himself.

For me traffic is a complex problem that a simplistic solution like wider road is enough to solve. To start with:

  • Yes a competent, forward-looking and strong-willed leader or gov't agency head would help or simply someone whose head is at the right place that listens to sound advise from capable consultants or advisers.
  • A road map in doing so always usually helps in terms of not coming up with a quick fix but also come up with medium and long term plans.
  • Next would be changing the culture of people in terms of road courtesy, environment-friendly transport ie. bikes or pedestrianization or discourage the blind love for car ownership among others. This can be done via a holistic marketing plan as well as policies or laws that obviously needs to be implemented to the T like making it more expensive to own a car or requiring parking to own one or requiring a specific space allocation for commercial establishments to operate or simply updating of coming up with a sound land use plan and zoning ordinance.
  • Obviously, a good infrastructure would help specifically coming up with a reliable, safe, convenient and affordable mass public transport that goes hand-in-hand with the culture change. Coming up with bike lanes and safe bike parking areas could be included here as well as having pedestrians utilized by people and not owned by street vendors. Instead of building more expressways that encourages car ownership, the railway program should have been continued if not expanded. Obviously, trains carry more people than cars (please refer to the image below for visual explanation).
  • Decentralization of growth nodes also helps to decongestant traffic. Having a central sea port, airport, government hubs, military camps, schools, commercial centers and residential areas (including exclusive subdivisions) all concentrated within Metro Manila explains this one. Plans like utilizing ports in Clarks and Batangas as well as the airport of Subic is a no-brainer if only our political leadership can move past the thinking that this was the brainchild of the previous administration. Thus, a good roadmap always helps.

Wala nakong ibang maisip so i'll leave the rest to you come up with additional inputs. In a way, WE, the voting public are somewhat guilty of electing the same old clowns to come up with shitty, knee-jerk solution/projects that does not add value or do justice to the taxes that are somewhat being robbed from us. #mytowcentsworth

automobile law in 1st world countries are very pricey which discourages people from buying a lot. i.e. in Germany cars are cheap but the law requires an insurance policy that is very high, Singapore has additional Tax for car users, etc.

Although, this countries have a very effective mass transport system.

They call it COE in Singapore. Certificate of Eligibility. Which can cost as much as 5x the car.

It depends on what type of car you plan to buy and how many COE expired on that year. Draw lot type kasi sya, the plan is to maintain an average number of car users per year.

Also, one of the requirement is you need to have your own parking space.

Anyway, now I think Traffic is really caused by Buses.

I commute by bus from North Ave to Makati daily (para makatulog) It usually takes me 1 hour or 1 1/2 hour max kung makasakay ako before 6AM. Pero lately, ever since MMDA placed those plastic barriers as dividers, umabot na ako ng 2 - 2 1/2 hours na byahe.

Reason: From GMA Kamuning, if buses takes the fly over pwede na lang sila magbaba sa Santolan. That means buses can only stick sa bus lanes. Di na sila pwede mag swerve and sumingit from mid-lane to bus lanes.

Speaking of foresight, C5 was made at a time intersections on EDSA were being removed. Then when C5 was completed, an intersection at Kalayaan Av was opened. And now, near the Korean Embassy. Worse is that nobody is crossing, there are traffic aides, but still, traffic at C5 is stopped by the traffic light. I don't know if it's really foresight or plain stupidity

Speaking of "your own parking space" does that include government vehicles? So many of them are parked along Levy Mariano in Taguig. Also, is it possible to remove the "no parking" sign at the Western Police District? Kakahiya naman na blatant ang violation at the place mismo of the enforcers.

1st world countries don't have jeepneys and tricycle to travel to work because most of them have cars. Countries that uses bicycle and are successful on the program are those that have a cold weather all year long. The best I think that implemented this is Norway. Would you like to try riding a bike from North Ave. to Ayala Ave. in the morning during summer and have a 9:am business meeting?

You can't ban jeep on Taft or Rizal Ave. and other smaller main road and replace it with bus or bicycle. It just won't work.

The main problem really is over population and centralization of business/employment opportunity in Metro Manila. In recent decade, people are now living outside M.M. like Bulacan, Laguna and Cavite due to its affordability. This is why we have so many provincial buses right now going to M.M.

1. Baka dapat tuw8ng rush hour, private vehicles can use the bus lanes... anytime in between, busses lang...

2. Tanggalin ang mga colorum

3. Ayusin ang mass transport system..

I think there are simply just too many cars in Metro Manila. Government should fix the public transport system. Add, more trains & improve the infastructure of the lrt/mrt. Abolish the current buses & replace them with double decker buses which strictly follow time & loading/unloading areas.

A developed country is not where the poor people have cars, it's where the rich people use public transportation. - Mayor of Bogota

Speaking of Bogota, this place is known for TransMillenio, one of BRT pioneers. We can learn from this, a mass transpo using bus instead of subway trains. Much cheaper and simpler to construct and simpler to maintain than LRT/MRT. We should consider BRT.

To have a long term solution to the traffic problem will entail a lot of sacrifice from the people.

Like I said before over population and centralization of business/employment opportunity in Metro Manila in one of the causes of heavy traffic. If we can improve the employment opportunity on nearby provinces like in Central Luzon and Calabarzon that should help immensely. But we need to improve their roads not just the expressways. Big successful businesses in provinces need efficient trade routes to Metro Manila. If people in those regions can have the same salary that they get in Metro Manila they would rather work there rather than traveling in and out of MM. Maximizing Clark Int'l Airport would also help. The skyway they are building now from Balintawak up to NAIA would also help the traffic.
Assigning a traffic czar or better yet hire some 3rd party consultant company from abroad that would assess our traffic situation and recommend a solution to ease the traffic.

big thinking needs big projects....

siguro pwede gawing municipal law ang kamukha niyan....a big maybe....

Yung mga babae ngayon prefers owning a car if they can afford than commuting in public vehicles. Even their parents buys them a car just to feel their children are more safe.

The private vehicles are growing in number exponentially because of cheaper gasoline and because it is easier to own a car now because of relatively low bank financing interest rates and the fringe benefits of companies to its employees. It's a matter of affordability, not crime.

I agree that its more affordable now but I only stated one of the reason that increases in volume. We have a heavy traffic problem before gasoline rate becomes cheaper and not just because interest rates is lower you have to buy one. It only entice you to buy it because its safer especially for women.
