New York Knickerbockers

NY keeps improving. #8 in the East currently. so good chance for the playoffs

The competition for the 8th place in the East are the Cavs where Varejao just got injured (again) and the Bucks where Bogut is also out for the rest of the season so the Knicks have a high change of making it in the play-offs even with a .500 record. Guess the real question would be, how deep would they go? To advance further they would not have to target the 8th seed and face either Miami or Chicago, have to go as far as the 6th seed and compete with either Boston, Atlanta, Indiana or Orlando.

About J-Lin, Mayweather just made another dumb comment that his fame is due to his race and that it happens a lot to blacks rolleyes.gif

What an insecure and attention-seeking dude this is angry.gif

Knicks stole another win on the road against the Raptors this time! A late steal by Shump (Iman Shupert) plus a clutch 3 by J-Lin and a good D afterwards sealed the fate of the Raps.. 6-game winning streak baby!!!

final score : 90-87

Stats for the night :

J-Lin 27 points, 2 rebounds, 11 assists (only downer is the 8 TOs)

Amare 21 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist

Tyson Chandler 13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blks (5 fouls)

Shupert 8 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 3 TOs (but shot down Calderon who scored 25 but did most of the damage on the first half)

Maybe other teams have figured out J-Lin by collapsing their defense whenever he drives or forcing him to go left but their team just produced another win and the PNR with stat on the second half was a thing of beauty. Wait till Melo comes back and lets see what happens if other teams try to sag out. J-Lin would have more weapons by then. Wow, LINSANE!

Agreed. His comment was actually wrong. There isn't any other player who scored that many points (109) in 4 consecutive starts. Lin actually passed some pretty big names in that particular stat (AI, Shaq, MJ), so, no, what the undrafted non Division 1 player did does not happen every night.

I dont care if Melo comes back. Panira lang sa opensa yan. New York should trade him for additional forward and center. This will give the Knicks a deeper rotation. They dont need multi-million superstars who can't deliver.

I beg to differ bro.. Melo's type of game will be needed especially during the semis where defense steps-up and the level of competition is higher. Chances are you'll not be playing the likes of Wizards, Raptors or the Hornets thus the game would tend to be close and those last minute heroics could come handy. Melo's mid-range game and slashing skills would come very handy for J-lin's slashing and P-N-R game as it would add him a better option/dimension or added weapon. Plus, Melo could not be a liability on the defensive side the way Novak is. Besides, what the Knicks need now are added depth of role players and they do have the mid-level salary to offer unlike other team such as the Clips who could only offer the vet's min. as they've used that to K-Mart already. Jeffries, Walker, Shupert, Fields can only do or sustain the win streak soo much, it wouldn't hurt to have an extra reinforcement with the likes of Melo and Amare. I think the need of the Knicks right now is a serviceable PG, Baron Davis could be it assuming that he'd be healthy enough since Bibby just is way past his prime and couldn't seem to shoot even if his life depends on it right now. An extra big won't hurt although they do have Jerome Jordan who is a 7 footer that has a high tendency to foul but could defend.

^ Getting the impression though that J. Lin is currently on a score first mentality (similar to Amare and Melo). Would definitely be interesting to see how the offense runs once all three start together. Should Lin be able to evolve his game to include great pass first offense (shades of Nash, Kidd, or CP3), then only better things can happen.

Dude, no offense but you should watch the Knicks games to make this observation other than looking at the stat lines. The ball is mostly in his hands as he facilitates the offense thus the high turn over rate but his the one making the plays, thus the likes of Novak, Jeffries, Walker, Tyson Chandler are scoring at a high efficiency rate. The pick and roll game was pretty much non-existent when the season started without him after various attempts to make Carmelo the point forward and pegging Shupert and Douglas to be their point guard with epic failure as its outcome. Besides, the Knicks win are not solely on their offense but also on the solid team defense that they have shown by holding the teams that they've played at below 100. They are now currently tied at 14th on team defense which is a far cry from last year wherein they are at the bottom 20th while being at the top 10 in offense.

On a more positive note, their 7-game win streak continues as they had a blow-out win at the garden against the Kings. Final score : 100 - 85 where J-Lin only played for 26 mins, scoring 10 points, handing 13 assists, 5 rebounds and sadly 6 TOs. The Stanford connection was also there with field scoring 15 (team high), 10 rebounds, 5 assist while Amare contributed 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 blk while Chandler only had 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blks but was a beast at both ends of the floor (di nga lang kita sa stat line). The bench was cleared and the likes of Jerome Jordan, Blakman and Toney Douglas saw some light and got to play. LINSANITY stays! cool.gif

In short, J-Lin made the scrubs look better. Thus a lot are taking a dig at Amare and Melo when the win streak started without them and why he was getting comparisons with Nash with his style of play. That is minus the shooting although he has been making them lately which includes the buzzer beating 3 against Toronto. I think it also helped that D' Antoni did not call a time-out so that the defense could not settle and that he was left with Calderon guarding him who dared him to take that wide open shot and paid for it dearly tongue.gif

Lin added the usual averages piled up by Amare and Melo which led to their successive wins. The 3 of them should remain intact until change is inevitable

I did, and no offense taken. For sure he was efficient without Stoudemire and Anthony (actually made that comment in one of the threads here), which links to the other part of the comment that it would be interesting to see what happens when all three are start.

a few reasons i guess why lin just exploded, he was a scrub opponents knows when your playing the knicks they dont have a natural pg. so their offense is often stagnant, if you notice amare's fg attempts mostly are jump shots and high post as compare to his time with the suns which are in the paint. now you have melo which often calls iso for him.

now you take away the 2, you put in a nobody but his a natural pg. suddenly they click playing pick and roll and everyone just fit into place. novak was hitting 3's because being set up and given proper passes, jeffries was playing with a natural flow, fields finding his rhythm, chandler who made a career of himself with pick and roll along with cp3, shumpert who can create his own shot isnt forcing it almost every possesion. and this guys are playing defense!

lin comes in bringing in what the knicks is lacking and those are penetration, giving space and passes to team mates , knocking down shots. the other teams with the intact games in a week schedule couldnt prepare so much. his really in the right time and the right place.

lastly i cant take away that his talented , the guy can play basketball.

my question is when melo comes back isnt the offense but the defense of the knicks! because melo doesnt play defense like other guys do,

i meant the " score first mentality statement" since D' Antoni's offense is predicated on taking what the defense is giving you while being PG-oriented. Thus the 7 seconds or less phase wherein you immediately attack the defense while it still has not set that worked soo well in Phoenix but sucked big time when the Knicks experimented with Duhon and the likes. Lin's type of play simply suits the type of offense that D' Antoni has been preaching and it ain't about the scoring mentality alone, its about setting the offense and their win today against the lowly Kings prove that, 10 points yes (ended the 6-game 20 pt. scoring streak) but more importantly he had 13 assist on a 26-minute play where except for Chandler who has 9 points, almost all of their starters had double digits. It also explains the high turn-over rate as the ball is mostly in his hands and the offense is predicated or revolves around him plus the pace that it requires (high octane) and the fact that this is basically his rookie year as he barely played on his rookie season except on garbage time occasionally. When Carmelo returns, his scoring would probably dip but his assist numbers sure would rise.. However if the defense would not respect him or dare him to shoot, he has shown that he's up to the challenge the way the Raps found out the hard way rolleyes.gif

Other teams basically crowded Melo and Amare that resulted in ISO brand of play where most of their team mates watch as the defense settles that would usually result into a miss or a TO. J-lin kinda addressed that problem which was the reason why Fields has a high value prior to Melo's trade where the ball movement was present then (presence of Felton) and has only returned now after J-Lin fell unto the laps of New York Knicks.
