What I stated was the first three years of Martial Law or the first two years. After that, umabuso na at nakatikim na ng kapangyarihan ang militar. That's the very reason kung bakit takot na maibalik ang Martial Law. With the kind of government we have now, we know whats on their mind when Martial Law got declared.

Oo nga, puwede pala yun, no? Ayaw nila pamigay yung crown nila. Weird. Natalo boxer pero nasa kanya pa korona which means pera pera ang boxing ngayon unlike during the Ali days.

  3. DM transit was an all-white regular sized bus like the Manila Transit/Love Bus.

Sinasakyan ko from Quiapo to Proj. 6 - JD Transit, yung colored maroon at or red.

  4. I remember during the Xmas even, suspended ang curfew, naku, parang pinakawalan sa kulungan mga tao.

Sabi nilang mahirap is not mahirap kundi walang freedom of the press. Pero during the first three years of Martial Law, bumait at sumusunod ang mga tao sa batas and traffic rules and regulations.

Example: Musta na kayo sa MTCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!

  7. Mukhang marami na championships sina Danny I. at Olsen ah?

    Congrats to SMB!

Also counting din yung mga Finals na pumasok ang SMB (pero di nag champion-a great feat although kung siguro nag tuloy tuloy ang Crispa and Toyota (maski di same players syempre), baka pangatlo lang ang SMB sa most championships won. Na disband kasi yung dalawa back in 1984

  8. Mosley Pacman's best option now

By Abac Cordero Updated July 19, 2009 12:00

MANILA, Philippines - Shane Mosley, saying he’s willing to fight Manny Pacquiao at 140 lb, might force the Filipino pound-for-pound champion to pull the plug on Miguel Cotto.

“If Cotto stays put at 145 pounds then Manny might call it off,” said Pacquiao’s lawyer, Franklin Gacal, yesterday after stories broke out that Mosley is willing to go to as low as 140 lb to earn the lucrative fight with boxing’s biggest star.

Last week, Gacal told The STAR that Cotto is keeping his fight with Pacquiao, already penciled for Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand, from happening by saying he can’t go down from 145 to 143 lb as the Filpino camp wants him to do.

Then Gacal said they might as well consider Mosley who is willing to concede in the weight issue and get 40 percent of the total purse. Yesterday, Pacquiao’s lawyer sounded excited with the news.

“That’s nice. Then Mosley just became the top candidate,” he said.

“What else can we do if Cotto insists on 145 but look for a different opponent? Mosley said he’s willing to go down to 140 pounds? Maganda ‘yan,” said Gacal, adding that he was in touch with Bob Arum the other night,

Arum, the Top Rank president who both has promotional rights over Pacquiao and Cotto, is on a European vacation, and had to think of ways how to close the deal between Pacquiao and Cotto, the WBO welterweight (147 lb) champ.

A few days ago, Arum was quoted as saying both camps have already agreed to 145 lb, but Gacal said there’s no such deal yet.

“Mr. Arum can’t do anything if Cotto insists on 145 and Manny says he wants another fight. Michael Koncz (Pacquaio’s Canadian adviser) talked to Arum last night and the latest is that Cotto said he can’t go lower than 145,” said Gacal.

“Baka i-call off na ni Manny ang Cotto fight. But it will depend on him. He will make the final decision although he has yet to be informed about this development. It’s up to him now. Will it be Cotto or Mosley?” the lawyer added.

“I’m going down to 140 pounds and I want to fight for Pacquiao’s belt (the IBO light-welterterweight crown he won over Ricky Hatton last May) because that’s a belt I have never won,” Mosley told the American press.

The WBA welterweight champion, who came off a smashing knockout win over Antonio Margarito, also said, “There should be no 143, 141 or 142 and all this other stuff. I’m going to 140 and fight at his weight. I’m ready to make the sacrifice again.”

“I know how to make the weight. I know how to get down there,” he added.

Mosley, who’s under Golden Boy, said Cotto, who barely defeated Josh Clottey weeks ago, may not even make it at 145.

“I don’t think [Miguel] Cotto can even make 145, and now I’m saying I’m willing to fight Pacquiao at his weight. I’ll do that and go back up to welterweight and fight Floyd Mayweather Jr.” he told the LA Times.

Mosley said a few days ago, that if Pacquiao wants him, then get the negotiations going, and not try to use him “as a pawn” for Cotto. “Let me know so I can start training and be ready.”

Incidentally, Cotto played a round of golf with Golden Boy Oscar dela Hoya in Puerto Rico last week, and stories of a “conspiracy theory” cropped up, hinting of a secret deal between them.

Cotto’s contract with Arum is set to expire, and the Puerto Rican might consider joining Golden Boy. But he said his round of golf with Dela Hoya was a “chance encounter” and they “never talked about golf.”

To many, it was hard to believe that they never talked about it, raising theories that the Golden Boy must have convinced Cotto to skip Pacquiao by insisting on 145 lb, then make way for Mosley and for him to fight someone else.

And if Mosley beats Pacquiao, then Cotto comes in for the battle between the true welterweight champions.

Nawala na sa news si Gayweather hahaha

  9. Gabe proves worth

SPORTING CHANCE By Joaquin Henson Updated July 19, 2009 12:00 AM

San Miguel Beer’s irrepressible Gabe Freeman proved beyond doubt he’s the best import in the PBA Fiesta Conference as he outplayed Ginebra’s highly touted David Noel in Games 6 and 7 that decided the Finals.

Noel, who played on the North Carolina team that won the 2005 NCAA title, shone brightly in Game 3 by compiling a rare triple double with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in 47 minutes.

Freeman didn’t look like he was in Noel’s class when he sputtered in Game 5, fouling out with 16 points in only 24 minutes. In that encounter, Noel delivered 29 points in 44 minutes as the Kings opened a 3-2 series lead, gaining a twice-to-beat advantage the rest of the way.

But Freeman, named Best Import before Game 2, was far from finished. San Miguel coach Siot Tanquingcen made key match-up adjustments and relieved Freeman of the burden of defending Noel from start to finish. Freeman still had his moments against Noel but Tanquingcen used a rotating crew that included Marc Pingris, Danny Ildefonso and Jay Washington, to wear down the Tar Heels star.

As it turned out, Freeman outscored Noel, 24-16, in Game 6 and 29-8 in Game 7 as San Miguel rebounded to sweep the last two outings for the championship. Noel, who was 0-of-5 from triple distance in the clincher, never knew what hit him. Freeman stole the show from the Ginebra import down the stretch.

Freeman, 23, never played NCAA Division I basketball unlike Noel and came in on San Miguel skills coach Alton Lister’s recommendation. He just finished a tour of duty with the Albany Patroons in the Continental league and reported for work in San Miguel’s second game this conference.

    ****

Freeman wasn’t San Miguel’s original import choice. Nate Carter was but he was prevented from playing in the Beermen’s conference opener because of a technicality involving his previous club in France. Carter failed to secure his release from France, a FIBA requirement before moving on to another league.

With Carter out of the picture, Lister called in Freeman.

“Gabe played for Alton at Mesa Community College in Arizona so they knew each other,” said Tanquingcen.

But two games short of ending the eliminations, Tanquingcen brought in another import Chris Williams.

“There was never any doubt we would stick with Gabe,” he said. “But when Gabe got sick and we were safely in the semis, I remembered something coach Ron (Jacobs) told us at San Miguel when I was in his staff. We were winning with our import Nate Johnson but he asked the staff if we wanted to bring back Terq (Mott) who took us to a championship before. We decided to go with Nate and ended up losing to Tony Lang in the Finals. We never brought back Terq.”

Tanquingcen said even if the team is winning, a coach must always consider all his options.

“In Terq’s case, we wondered after we lost in the Finals, if he could’ve brought us the championship but it was too late,” he continued. “I didn’t want that to happen this conference. Alton spoke with Gabe about it. Of course, I’m sure he didn’t feel too good but we asked him to just take a few days off and rest while we see what Chris could do.”

Williams played two games for San Miguel then Freeman was reactivated to start the semifinals and never looked back.

Because of his inexperience, Freeman often couldn’t control himself in contact situations and got into early foul trouble. As the Finals progressed, he realized he was no good to Tanquingcen sitting on the bench and calmed down. In Game 6, he had three fouls and played 38 minutes. In Game 7, he had four fouls and logged 39 minutes.

Defense spelled the difference in both Games 6 and 7 which San Miguel won. Ginebra was held to 84 and .397 field goal shooting in Game 6 and 79 and .418 in Game 7. The Beermen clamped down on the Kings’ three-point shooting which was only 3-of-15 in the decider.

Jay-Jay Helterbrand played heroically in the clincher. Shrugging off pain in his hamstring, Helterbrand sucked it up and produced 25 points in 33 minutes. But he ran out of steam in the fourth period, adding only two free throws to his total. San Miguel was also more efficient on the floor, compiling an assist-to-turnover ratio of 21-to-15 compared to Ginebra’s 11-to-21.

San Miguel took over the driver’s seat, 4-3, early in the first quarter and Ginebra never regained the lead. The Beermen opened a pair of 17-point cushions, 61-44 and 63-46, in the third period then coasted to win convincingly, 90-79. The closest the Kings got from 17 down was at 76-69 on Rafi Reavis’ twinner midway the fourth quarter.

Tanquingcen said there’s no such thing as jinxing Ginebra coach Joseph Uichico. In three playoff series so far, Tanquingcen has never lost to Uichico. Could it be because Tanquingcen knows everything about Uichico as his long-time assistant at San Miguel and Ginebra? Uichico never worked under Tanquingcen so the familiarity isn’t as intimate the other way around.

“That’s not the case,” said Tanquingcen. “I’m nowhere near what coach Jong has accomplished. His record speaks for itself. He’s a real championship coach. When I’m coaching against him, I really learn much more. He forces me to think because he’s always a step ahead of you. He’s a big reason why San Miguel is what it is today.”

  10. Ginebra to re-sign Jayjay, Caguioa

    By WAYLON GALVEZ

    July 17, 2009, 7:41pm

Jayjay Helterbrand and Mark Caguioa are expected to be re-signed when Barangay Ginebra starts negotiations with 14 players whose contracts have expired.

While the Kings’ coaching staff has the prerogative to choose who will be retained, Helterbrand and Caguioa will be retained, according to San Miguel Corp. basketball operations chief Robert Non.

“They’re the team’s franchise players,” said Non.

The other Ginebra players whose contracts expire this season are Eric Menk, Sunday Salvacion, Chris Pacana, Willie Wilson, Rafi Reavis, Paul Artadi, Ronald Tubid and Chico Lanete.

At presstime, the Kings were playing against San Miguel Beer last night for the Motolite-PBA Fiesta Cup crown at the Araneta Coliseum.

Caguioa’s contract expired last July 15 along with Junthy Valenzuela, Junjun Cabatu, Macky Escalona and JR Aquino expired last July 15. Billy Mamaril’s contract ends on July 30.

Caguioa actually missed the entire 2008-09 PBA season because of tendonitis. He underwent rehabilitation program in the United States before returning recently.

“Si Mark (Caguioa) naman okay na ‘yung rehab n’ya. Babalik lang uli s’ya sa US for vacation. Pero once na umuwi s’ya dito, conditioning na lang and he’ll be ready for the all-Filipino (Philippine Cup) next season,” Non said.

The Kings have four players who are still under contract, and these are Cyrus Baguio, JC Intal, Homer Se, and Doug Kramer.

San Miguel, on the other hand, is expected to keep franchise players Danny Seigle and Dondon Hontiveros.

Seigle, who is recuperating from a back injury in the US, has a contract with SMC that expired last July 15 along with Lordy Tugade. Hontiveros’ deal, on the other hand, will end on July 31.

The contracts of Jonas Villanueva, the Most Improved Player winner this season, Marc Pingris, Mike Cortez, Dorian Peña, Olsen Racela, Wesley Gonzales, Chris Calaguio, and Sam Eman also ended with the conclusion of the Finals.

There are 46 other players who are expected to seek contract extension with their respective mother clubs or sign new deals with other teams.

@tagalupa, saan mo ibebet life mo sa SMB-Lakers game?

championship parade daw ng smb from edsa shrine to malacanang, sasama ang mga raliyista against chacha :thumbsupsmiley:

Libre naman ang panaginip, di ba?

  12. kawawa naman si Noel, reading back, high praises sa kanya....ngayon dahil sa isang masamang night! tapos siya hahaha (benta, get out !, Loser, biyahe, hehehe)

Lanete: (akala ko si Lanete natin. brother pala niya)

Lanete’s consistency wins him scribes’ nod

    07/19/2009

Simply for his consistency, San Beda guard Garvo Lanete was chosen as the NCAA Press Corps ACCEL-Fil-Oil Player of the Week for leading the Lions to a pair of convincing wins last week.

Lanete, the youngest in the basketball-playing Lanete siblings headed by Barangay Ginebra’s Chico, averaged 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals in 27.5 minutes per game to help his team remain in striking distance with the leaders.

With the hard-working Lanete leading the fray, the Lions smashed the St. Benilde Blazers, 86-66, Monday and then followed it up with a 98-65 bashing of the Perpetual Help Altas Friday to improve to a 3-1 (win-loss) record and a shade behind the 4-0 Jose Rizal Bombers and San Sebastian Stags.

And San Beda coach Frankie Lim was impressed with Lanete’s unbending consistency.

"Garvo is very consistent. He always makes good decisions on the court, he makes the big shots and passes the ball well," said Lim.

Another San Beda guard JR Tecson, Jose Rizal’s John Wilson and Letran’s Rey Guevarra were also mentioned in the weekly award, which is being backed by ACCEL and Fil-Oil.

But after figuring in the crucial stretch of the last two games wherein he made the biggest shots, the group of sportswriters from the country’s leading broadsheets and tabloids, eventually gave the weekly honor to Lanete.

The first two weeks, the NCAA PC picked Jimbo Aquino of San Sebastian and John Wilson of Jose Rizal as its first choices for the ACCEL-Fil-Oil plum.

  13. A law that requires all politicians especially senatong, tongressmen and president, vice president should at least finished college with a masteral degree para naman maalis at ma disqualify na yung mga Lapids, Revillas, etc.

    and

Require all politicians to be at their office on government time (with some exceptions on official functions na dapat nandun nga ang kumag). No additional jobs (artista, coaching, doctors) aside from being a politician, in other words, no other income maliban lang sa sweldo nila as a public servant.

Ban all pork barrels and indicate the true job description of tongressmen and senatonrs.

And lastly, ban all posters and tarpaulins with politician faces na nandun. Ban all political posters and tarpaulins.

C u Friday. Lanete, may practice kayo bukas. Lagot kayo kay Jong hahaha.

  16. San Miguel up by 10. Many thanks to Gabe Freeman at nag donate ng basket for Ginebra. Follow up niya miss, pinasok sa basket ng Ginebra. Maraming salamat. :D Hopefully they will recover their touch sa second half. 3 fouls na Freeman.

ABANGAN !!!!

  18. in teh end sacrifices were made, Salvacion Shaved off some of his minutes for Menk, some of teh players were benched... nice work coach jong...

C u tomorrow guys

  19. Well, hopefully Ginebra will play the same intensity na ginawa nila last night. hahaha. ANyway, GINEBRA, GINEBRA, GINEBRA. Prediction: Araneta up to 20,000 fans tomorrow, dagungdung: GINEBRA, GINEBRA, GINEBRA !!!.

  20. Penis's foul was really weak but per books, bawal na yung chopping foul na ginagawa ni Jawo nuon. So out he goes (kakatako ang bangis ng mata ni Penis habang lumalabas ng court-looking at the referee. He should learn, he did the "wrong" thing (although wala naman sigurong intention na manakit)
