  1. oh man! he may, but not at this time bro

Spider Silva VS Chuck Liddell would be nice, not to mention the pay-out it would generate for Dana and the Fertittas. Bisping is on his way, but if he doesn't want to get KTFO in the 2nd round then he better prepare himself for the Spider's assault. but then again this fight may happen but not right now, the UFC would first want to penetrate a deeper market in Europe before they make that fight happen.

WAR Forrest Griffin! sub in the dying minutes of the 4th wicked armbar from the bottom. ^_^

i didn't like Griffin when he started in the UFC and was glad that Tito beat him during his first few fights in the UFC, but after i saw the Shogun fight, i said to myself this guy is for real, he's gamer that Shogun and has better cardio. after that fight i am now a Griffin fan.

Hehe. That Griffin - Ortiz fight was classic by the way. It's amazing how Forrest has come such a long way from being just another fighter on the TUF show. We've seen him evolve thru all of his fights, not just during his wins but during his losses as well. The two fights with Stephan Bonnar showed us he had heart. The fight with Tito established him as a legitimate contender despite him losing a close decision. The loss to Jardine was a tough pill to swallow but it taught him to balance his brawling style with precision striking and control. The win over Shogun (widely regarded then as the world's best LHW) let the whole world know he had a ground game and finally the win over Quinton Jackson made him champion.

Evans has gone thru a similar evolution but overall I think Forrest has grown so much more than he has. And that is why I think on dec 27th he will retain his LHW crown.

  2. Nga pala. Props to sir Ali Sulit and the rest of the Newbreed peeps for putting up the event. at least we now have another competition to look forward to every year.

  4. watching the sherk-griffin fight, eventhough some of the comments here say that sherk deserved to win; i still think griffin was robbed again; his strikes were more accurate & eventhough sherk took him down; nothing really happened..the same thing happened with griffin during the frankie edgar fight; edgar's knee was destroyed with griffin putting it in a knee bar but he didn't tap; edgar won the close decision..too bad for griffin; he's one hell of a fighter; even the punches of sherk didn't affect him that much..

bro, sherk not only took him down remember he got his back a number of times and twice with both hooks in. in sport jiu jitsu (well according to the IBJJF rules as far as i know coz ive been competing in BJJ for quite a while already) that position is one of the highest scoring positions you'll ever get. Also consider the fact that during the first two rounds sherk was able to either take him down or pin him to the octagon at will, so he also scored well on octagon control. It was a close fight anyway and yeah that Frankie Edgar fight was a classic one too and could have gone either way.

Now moving on to Forrest and Rashad. Forrest has the reach advantage, has the fighting spirit advantage, camp-wise I think he has the better strategist of a coach in Randy Couture and as someone has stated here is the better one at controlling posture or pulling subs from his back.

Rashad has the wrestling advantage and both of them are good strikers. I pick Forrest to retain his title in this one. He can actually dance around Rashad like what he did in his fight with Hector 'Sick Dog' Ramirez and win it without the fight even going to the mat.

  5. good fights for UFC 90

nice KO by junior dos santos; what an uppercut :)

nice ground game and submission by thales leites; thats great jujitsu for you :)

i thought tyson griffin deserved to win against sherk; his shots were the more accurate of the two..

thiago alves strikes were amazing; took koscheck off his game; couldn't even take down the pitbull; deserves the win & the title shot against GSP..

too bad for cote; the fight was starting to develop in the end of the 2nd; too bad he got injured..the spider is still the champ :)..

Let's recap the criteria for winning a decision in the ufc a decision is based on the following: effective striking, grappling, aggression and octagon control

Well I thought sean sherk won that decision quite easily. First round was clearly his cause they were equal on the standup aspect but.. he got two takedowns and got a backride on griffin with both hooks in. He also got a takedown and pinned griffin to the fence during the second round. The third round was a little bit harder to score cause both of them were landing pretty good shots.

But even if we give tyson the last round remember he already lost the first two so there was no way he was gonna get that decision. Good win for the muscle shark tyson griffin is one tough kid it's just what he needs to get him back in contention.

I was impressed with Josh Koscheck the most during the event. The guy's got a ton of conditioning (it shows in the way he quickly recovered after getting badly hurt numerous times during his fight with the pitbull) and a ton of heart. Alves' leg kicks were devastating as usual and he clearly is the number one contender now for GSP's title.

  6. what can i say chief? the clamor for martial arts is here again just like bruce lee's era, and a lot of people want to profit from it anyway they can (example: Dana White).

and thank you as well for your informative posts about the martial arts scene here in the country, your posts along with geneticfreak's and tankijitsu helped me a lot in planning on where to train BJJ, which up to know, i sadly haven't started as i can't seem to put it in my current day to day schedule.

glad to be of service to you and to everyone else bro. anyway magstart ka na magtrain the december competition is about 6 weeks away. hehe. ako mejo pahinga muna this week kakatapos lang nung dominacao absoluta last saturday and sunday e.

  7. san poh and euro sa QC at Kalookan? masa maganda poh ba sa ibang hotels?

I personally haven't tried the other eurotel branches but I can honestly say among all the hotels (and motels) ive gone to euro i think is right up there in terms of ammenities and service. Also the fact that their promo rate is 4 hours (an hour longer than most hotels) is quite a bargain. The rooms are also nice and clean and the room service is great. That's why I keep coming back. Apart from that it's within the vicinity of gateway mall and the cubao mrt and thus is very accessible

  8. yep, and thank you for the heads up on who to avoid in the local scene (remember the PM chief ^_^), so yeah, nothing beats good old fashioned research before jumping the gun ^_^

Hahaha Your welcome bro. But let me just reiterate again that it's not really the team or the style we were bashing then (as stated by sir tankjitsu who kinda knew who it was as well hehe) it was their head coach's greed and prioritization of monetary gains over the training and well being of his students. That team is quite solid and has some good fighters who have performed really well in some recent events (again i won't name the fighters or even the event dahil maoobvious kung sino hehe) but again if you're coach is really more after making some cash rather than making you better skill-wise than I think it would be better for you to train with someone else.

  9. yep good grappling match there indeed, although i'm seeing how Palhares will manhandle Lister, that Palhares guy is one scary dude, and has an iron chin to boot

lots of good grapplers in the 185 weight class. I hope one of them at least could be a challenge to Anderson Silva at some point.

  10. This is one of the most irritating urban legends ever to come out of the Philippine MA scene. What annoys the s@%t out of me even more is that there are tons of f#&king IDIOTS who actually believe it...it's like "Dude! I'm going to drop all pretense of actually having a brain and filling the space between my ears with dog manure! Yeah!!"

Hahaha. I train with Kru Sulpiano Laurio and Manuel 'Cobra' Silvano who actually fought one of these Tracma wannabes. The Arix Solar guy was running away from him the entire time.

People ought to do a lil more research before believing such claims. There a lot of groups coming out preaching this art or this style and a lil research would really be handy before you join any of them and train under them (and waste your hard-earned cash).

Back in the day we used to just base the reputation of a fighter or a group by word of mouth and silly stories like these kaya mejo marami ang naloloko. It's actually a good thing that nowadays we have records of the results of fights and competitions even supporting vids and pics (available online) to show which groups are legit and will give you results if you train with them. Kaya we advise anyone planning to take up martial arts (well in our case MMA in particular) to do a little research.

  11. UFC 92 poster for ‘The Ultimate 2008′

185 lbs.: Yushin Okami (21-4-1) vs. Dean Lister (11-5)*

I am really looking forward to seeing this fight. Okami's controlling wrestling style against the BJJ ability of someone who was once called the world's best grappler.

I wonder how Demian Meia or Palhares would do against Dean Lister. It'd be a BJJ highlight reel I'm sure.

  12. hehehe the comment cracks me up bro, and i'm with you with people saying that their style can't be defeated and is feared by fighters...

just the way you say it it cracks me up chief. no offense meant

Hehehe. Kinda reminds me of that time. Tracma joined the MMA scene via the first two URCC's if I recall correctly their club history states their Master Trovador Ramos was actually the one who killed Bruce Lee after a soft blow to the head (during a sparring session) which he later died of 3 days after. Now personally I don't know if it's true (though it brings a smile to my face still when people bring it up hehe). They're members actually claimed their art was the best and they couldn't be beaten.

And how did they end up? Sad to say the group has become the butt of jokes of the local MMA community after their dismal showings.

  13. I would really love to see Fedor vs. Arlovski! I've always been a Fedor Fan but I must admit may "tulog" sya kay Arlovski!

Dana said if Kimbo wants to be in the UFC, he should join and win in TUF! That would be great for ratings...

Gina Carano vs. Cyborg Santos "where will it happen" sigh :thumbsupsmiley:

Depends on the Arlovski that shows up bro. He's been Jekyll and Hyde recently.

If the Arlovski who fougt Rothwell shows up we'd have one helluva show, but if it's the one who fougt Werdum it could be a short night for him.

  14. Vera should be kicked out of UFC. very disappointing!

Look guys. Let's not be to hard on Brandon. Sure it was a disappointing loss but heck it could have gone either way.

I wish he could have gone after Jardine with a lil more 'intensity' if you know what I mean. Brandon reminded me of Andrei Arlovski when he fought Fabrico Verdum.

He did take the middle of the octagon but he was just reacting to what Jardine was giving him. Apart from that beautiful 'knee stomp' he did (textbook muay thai there) I found his performance quite lackluster.

Kudos to Marcus Davis, Paul Taylor (though he lost) and one of my all time faves Chris Lytle for showing us how it's done. That's the way you're supposed to fight to get fans into the seats.

  15. Jerson Estoro (W via KO) vs. Arnel Arancina

Robert Serdone vs. Jessi Rafols (W via KO)

Karlo Sevilla vs. Jerry Legaspi (W via RSC)

Marlon Abrigoso vs. Lando Espiniosa (W via KO)

Badong Domasian vs. Carl Sabiniano (W via Submission (Gogoplata))

Dennis Padua vs. Andrew Benibe (W via RSC)

Bimbi Perez vs. Lino Tagacay (W via DQ)

Noble Ampoc vs. Roy Docyogen (W via Submission (Rear Naked Choke))

Another Gogoplata finish by Carl Sabiniano. Impressive.

  16. Rogue Magazine's Black Tie Brawl will be held tom. 7PM at the Hyatt Hotel.

I didn't promote the event here too much due to the exorbitantly high cost of the tickets (Php 10,000), which is said to include a six course dinner at the Hyatt.

Anyhow goodluck to everyone who'll be fighting. To my coach Karlo Sevilla especially (had one last sparring session with him last night) who will be fighting highly touted Jerry 'the Destroyer' Legaspi from Hybrid Yaw Yan.
