Bakit para kay Bods lang e ako yung me crush kay Katharine Ross. :(

side comment ko lang:

I named my daughter Elaine from the Katherine Ross character in THE GRADUATE....yung kinakasal na si Katherine Ross (Elaine Robinson) sa ibang lalake, nakadungaw si Dustin Hoffman (Ben Braddock) sa glass window sa 2nd floor..sumisigaw ng ELAINE ! ELAINE!

 save gas  use bus  love bus

first aircon buses i've seen, too bad wala sa way ko ang stops nila

also, there were (are?) open air buses na umiikot sa luneta (bagumbayan)

first "planetarium show", palibhasa mga HS kami ni meldy kaya we got first crack nang nag-bukas ang show.

bought boomerangs (craze noon) which we sent flyings (ala batman) sa quirino grandstand

OT: Ganda theme park sa barcelona, try it :)

you could include Jerry Garcia of the GRATEFUL DEAD as one of those guitarists now playing in the Great Beyond.

Keith Moon was also one of those great drummers along with Bonham who passed away. Btw, malapit nang maubos ang THE WHO - sina Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey na lang ang natitira. John Enthwistle passed away - was it last year?

i have to admit di ako gaano fan ng greatful dead music. pero admitedly, they are a cultural icon...even bill clinton, bill walton swear by their music. just remembered. nabasa ko some months back namatay na yung guitarist ng iron butterfly. surely naaalala mo ang bandang ito. their only hit i know is inagada navida. pero what a solo on guitar...tagal...halos 20 minutes ata. can't recall his name though. notes on jaco...sayang talaga siya...got drunk one day and was beaten to death. played on several great weather report albums with zawinul, wayne shorter. he also played on joni mitchell's live album ('85 ata na release) with the emerging pat metheney on lead. galing ng accompaniment niya sa "coyote" flora purim was so saddened by his passage that i think she dedicated one of her songs to him...buhay pa ba si frank zappa?

and Black Sabbath (I love all the songs from Black Sabbath Vol. 4).

Somehow, the newer rock acts that try to capture the rawness of the 70's rock acts don't quite get it...

..."i feel unhappy, i feel so sad, i've lost the best friend that i've ever had...she was my woman, i loved her so...but it's too late now, i've let her go...i'm going through changes..." allright! thanks for the memories, pre. meron din palang nakikining ng black sabbath dito! yeah, 4 was great, although ang type ko talaga yung 1 (album with haunted house and scary-looking woman on the cover). really raw and unpolished...ibang klaseng guitarista si tony iomi. kaya lang, medyo baduy na si ozzy ngayon...the dove-head-ripping-off-wth-his-mouth days are long gone!!! tumatanda na.

Loved 1 as well. Kaso I really loved Supernaut from Sabbath IV. Other early faves are Paranoid and Iron Man from the 2nd album (I think?).

Actually, watching the Osbournes on MTV makes me feel kind of sad. He's been reduced to a caricature of his former self....Pehaps if Freddy Mercury were alive TV execs would have considered him for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy...

pareng robbietan, eto yung tinatawag na matorco. some years back, bumalik sila pero i don't know kung buhay pa.

I remember riding the motorco from baclaran to luneta....tapos maglalaro kami sa slide and swing duon sa likod ng quirino grandstand.

wala ng motorco ngayon, ang pumalit....the old karetela, naka park sa rajah solayman park sa may aristocrat sa malate or grand boulevard hotel. sa tapat ng park is the manila baywalk walk park, a project of mayor lito atienza...kain kayo ng barbeque while you watch the manila bay sunset.

roxas blvd...when we were young, my father brought us there early sunday morning to breathe the smell of the sea...afterwards, breakfast sa country bake shop at un ave...some of f sionil jose's books always mentioned this part of malate where the old rich lived...politicians and newsmen, artists and bohemians gathered for their morning coffee at taza de oro...the sunset was great even if you drived by slowly...traffic was non-existent...you drove further to herran to buy some bread at the famous bakery...the original swiss inn was in paco, a deli that had a small but delicious selection of hams and sausages...the best bibingka was at juanchito's, a hole in the wall near the corner of taft and un ave, in front of the precint...

the song remains the same. napanood ko sa miramar sa recto. pag pasok mo amoy damo at ang daming bote ng corex sa sahig...heh, heh, you had to be high to really enjoy it! great movie at ang haba. still have the soundtrack album, the only led zep na live. pero the song of the same title came out sa fifth album nila, houses of the holy. bigat ng riffs ni jimmy page dito.

dagdag ko lang ang petrified anthem, aunt irma, mother earth, sampaguita

Although I'm a bit older than you (hit college at the turn of the decade), I can't relate much to some of your musical memories. Hindi kasi ako ganuon kahilig sa music dahil puro aral lang ako. Beatles, Bee Gees, John Denver, Elton John and James Taylor lang ang halos nasasabayan ko.

Correct me about my failing memory. Parang graduate na ako and sometime in 1976-1977, I missed “The song Remains The Same” in the first class theaters so hinabol namin ng barkada in a theater along Rizal Avenue na malapit sa Opera House (forgot it pero alam kong alam nyo.) that showed double programs. Ka-double niya 'yung "A Star is Born" ni Barbra at Kris Kristofferson. And just what SallyBog have noticed, puro dulas ang inabot namin because of the corex bottles sa floor. At medyo na-high din kami dahil sa usok ng damo. Nabingi rin ako. Ang ingay kasi. Parang nanunuod ng live concerts ang mga estudyante – palakpakan for every song rendered.

And from what I heard then, ilang buwang pinalabas ang film pairs kasi ang lakas ng benta. Pabalik-balik yung mga viewers dahil nga pwedeng dumurog sa loob.

Add ko lang ang favorites ko nuon:

Love Story

Patton

Towering Inferno

Cassandra Crossing

The Exorcist

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

Chinatown

Network

Rocky

Kramer VS Kramer

Carrie

The Godfather 1, 2

Apocalypse Now

Deer Hunter

The French Connection

Of course, the Bruce Lee films.

Kung my Big Boss si Bruce, may Pig Boss si Ramon Zamora.

My other Kung Fu Favorites: Shoji Karada, Alexander Fusheng.

I loved the Kung Fu series of David Caradine because of the metaphysical dialogues between the grasshopper and the master. Lahat ng fighting sequences are all in slowmo.

Resto.

Luisa and Sons sa Avenida

Ma Mon Luk sa Quiapo

Moderna sa Ronquillo (nasunog and was rebuilt)

Lahat halos ng inuman sa Avenida may banda and solo singers.

Coffee shop sa Luneta run by the mute and the deaf.

Others:

Baby Bus and De Dios Transit plying the Quaipo-Sangandaan route.

The Manila Aquarium sa may Muni-golf Link near Pamantasan (Intramuros).

Meron ding mini-casino with HI-LO sa tuktok ng Good Earth Emporium but to reach that you have to take the elevator.

Of course the one-story original Shoe Mart sa Carriedo. Nakabili pa ko ng sapatos dito in mid-80’s.

Zyvel’s Escolta. Buhay pa rin to until 1986.

Yung labas na pusod ng mga chicks, nauso yan early 70’s.

Hot Pants.

Transcendental Meditation by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Ananda Marga with the celebrated Karpov-Korchnoi championship in Baguio.

Sumuko na kamo, Metrocom ini!

The original Ukay-Ukay sa Bambang Market. Ang tawag nuon “Relief”. We bought Levi’s jeans and neckties dito during the early 70’s.

The Revival of Student Canteen. IQ-7 with Bong Barrameda dominating the field.

Six-million dollar man. Charlie’s Angels.

Dekada 70 pumutok ang mga RTW’s and Designer Apparels. Bumagsak ang tailoring business.

Bola-bola, singko isa.

Yung one-day old-chick, and itlog na nakabalot sa harinang kulay orange, sa harap ng FEU ang origin niyan.

Feati buildings – sampayan ng libu-libong komiks.

The cachupoy look patterned after John’s hair. I have sported this hairstyle from 1972 up to the present! My 17-year old son also picked up the same hairstyle. Dalawa na kami!

Baka may mali. Correct niyo na lang.

dahil nga pwedeng dumurog sa loob.

let's see...main, mayfair, life, globe, times (quiapo), maxim, miramar, cinerama, dilson, gotesco, gala (recto), odeon, dalisay, avenue, opera, ever, roxan, universal, ideal, scala, pearl (rizal ave.) lyric, capitol (escolta), clover (carriedo)...i think yung original na san jacinto cafe somewhere din sa sta. cruz...meron din isang masarap na fried chicken sa may avenida carriedo area, parang mr. lee nga ba ang pangalan...?in the early 70s, la pang cubao or greenhills or quad, kaya everyone shopped sa avenida and escolta...may isang resto dito that served the best chicken pie...i think syvel's closed down after numerous strikes...sa goodearth ko nakita yung unang candy machine...dito rin ako binibilhan ni erpat ng matchbox...for books and uniforms, sa alemars, joymart, remember those weston khakis and gregg shoes?...mga second-hand books and term papers sa recto near morayta...meron pa ba ito? haven't been to u-belt in ages...wonder kung buhay pa yung pinky pops...

I remember the re-release of Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs in 1971, went to see it with my brother and mother at the old makati theater (malapit sa old makati supermarket) nagpakuha ako ng photo with "snow white" who happens to be the younger sister of Jeanne Young (yung tisay na may show sa channel 9).

If I'm not mistaken that was SPIN-A-WIN....Jeanne Young was real pretty kaya lang di ba she became for the longest time the significant other of the directress Zeneida Amador :P

Somehow, the newer rock acts that try to capture the rawness of the 70's rock acts don't quite get it...

The substance of rock music then and the essence of the era were a perfect match. Notice how Woodstock captured the spirit of the 70's, and notice too how Woodstock 2 and 3 in the 80's turned out to be duds because you really can't recapture those times....

That is so true. I've been to Spain a number of times. The last time I was in Madrid, I only paid 40 euros/night for a hotel along Gran Via! Nowhere else in Europe can you get this rate. Don't expect 5-star accomodations though.

Sorry medyo OT yata.

no OT here, pare, basta we get to share nostalgia here with fellow 70's dinosaurs :P

mahirap talaga sakyan music ng Grateful Dead but they're better heard live because their jams and solo are so extended sometimes one song stretches to about 17 to 20 minutes. Great for acid trips :P

I have an Al Dimeola album where Jaco played bass and he was really good. Pat Metheny had a tune called JACO on their PMG album as a tribute to the fallen bassist. Jaco's albums are so difficult to find - suwertihan lang talaga. I treasure my Weather Report double-live album called 8:30 only because Jaco was a part of that group.

Frank Zappa has long been dead - died of cancer. In fact my second avatar here in MTC was the cover of his APOSTROPHE album - with his face on it - as a tribute to his 10th death anniversary last Dec.4, 2003, and I replaced it with several other Zappa covers up to about February this year :P . Pati dating member title ko THE CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER - a title of one of his songs hahaha...

Juanchito's still alive today, with several branches to boot scattered around the Metro, but I don't know if it's still as good as that original hole-in-the-wall.

that one, too :P I think before Baby Barredo na-link na talaga si Jeanne Young sa kanya. Zeneida and Baby Barredo matagal magkasama yan sa Repertory..

hi all :) napadaan lang and enjoying the trip :D

now ko lang na-discover this great thread... ang galeng-galeng! (ika nga ni ariel ureta) ;)

about zeneida amador and baby barredo.. matagal silang nagkasama sa repertory kasi they're a couple

and trivia lang about me... tita ko si LILIOSA HILAO.. remember her? she's the UP student who was one of the very first victims of the martial law era ... she was brutally tortured and raped by the military.... hers was the most "celebrated" case among all of marcos' victims :(
