Fedor Emelianenko vs Brett Rogers Strikeforce fight announced

Strikeforce announced today at an open media workout in New York City that its prized free agent acquisition, Fedor Emelianenko (30-1), will make his promotional debut against undefeated hard-hitting heavyweight prospect, Brett Rogers (10-0).

No confirmed date or location is available at this time; however, the showdown is likely to happen on a Showtime-produced card sometime in November.

Emelianenko — a former Pride FC Heavyweight Champion and Affliction MMA headliner — recently signed a multi-fight contract with the San Jose-based mixed martial arts promotion under a special co-promotion agreement with M-1 Global.

“The Last Emperor” was in cruise control under the Affliction MMA banner after back-to-back wins over former UFC heavyweight champions Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski.

He was in line for a WAMMA title defense against Josh Barnett at the Aug. 1 “Trilogy” event until “The Babyface Assassin” got popped for steroids in a random pre-fight drug test.

The cash-strapped promotion closed up shop shortly thereafter, leaving Emelianenko (once again) the hottest free agent in mixed martial arts. After a hot and heavy pursuit from the UFC, Emelianenko opted to sign with Strikeforce primarily because of the co-promotion caveat.

Rogers is coming off a devastating knockout win over former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski at the “Lawler vs. Shields” event from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo., on June 6.

Rogers was a +300 underdog heading into the fight but needed just 0:22 seconds to put “The Pitbull” to sleep — the second time for Arlovski in as many fights.

“The Grimm,” now 10-0, looks poised to capitalize on his new found stature. “This sport is all about timing,” he said. “This fight took me to the next level and now is definitely my time. Everyone saw tonight that I am not one to play with.”

We’ll find out soon enough as he now prepares to take on arguably the top mixed martial arts fighter on the planet.

i feel sorry for "The Grimm" standing he'd have a chance but once the fight hits the ground he'd be coming home without an arm...

and believe me the fight will go to the ground...

f#&king arrogant fedor he be little the UFC!!!!!! Down to the last emperor!!!!!!

it's more like arrogant Vadim boss ^_^

Whats with the Fedor Hate!? Just because he didn't signed with the UFC?! Come on... :hypocritesmiley:

It's not just because he didn't sign with the UFC per se. By not signing with the UFC he is basically choosing to avoid top flight competition. Fedor is his own person, and he could've overridden Vadim's decision to have him sign with Strikeforce. Let's face it, if Fedor left M-1 & became his own person all M-1 will have is Mo Lawal, who's a good prospect but an unknown commodity. The money will come when competition comes his way, and with the rest of the heavyweights not signed with the UFC, the competition's not that much. The closest would be Josh Barnett, who's basically finished as a professional in the US.

The Fedor hate is because he let others decide how his legacy will be written. And that's why it's disappointing.

MARK MUNOZ VS. NICK CATONE

Round 1 - Urijah Faber cageside as the action begins. A quick touch of gloves gets us started. Munoz works immediately to the clinch, though Catone backs him to the cage, works his arms free and lands a few hard shots. Munoz backs away and shoots in, taking Catone down, but only momentarily. Munoz misses a jab and Catone cores with a counter right. Munoz lands a heavy right, then moves in for another clinch. Munoz lands a knee inside, then just misses with an elbow as he backs away. Catone pumps a jab but caches an inadvertant low blow in the exchange. Replays show the left low kick scored directly on the cup. Catone rests briefly, the jumps back in with three minutes remaining. Munoz misses a punch, and Catone ducks under and works him to the floor. Catone takes side control and throws several knees to Munoz's right side. Munoz tries to roll free, and turns Catone by grabbing his leg and rolling. The two stand, Munoz at the rear. Catone lands a back elbow, but Munoz dumps him on the floor. Catone stands immediately back up. One minute remains, and Catone lands a flurry. Munoz misses a takedown, and the two again clinch. The pair trades knees as time expires, and Catone works it to the floor in the final seconds. Close round, but MMAjunkie.com sees it for Catone, 10-9.

Round 2 - Catone opens the second with a few quick shoots. Catone shoots in, walking into a Munoz knee, but the blow doesn't faze him as he finishes the shot. Catone works to side control, then to the back as Munoz rolls. Munoz stands, and Catone lands a knee on the break. Munoz moves forward again into a clinch. and with double underhooks works Catone to the mat. He pops immediately back up, and Munoz releases the hold. Little less bounce by both fighters with three minutes remaining. An exchange of punches mostly misses. Munoz works for angles, but Catone lands the heavy shot that wobbles Munoz. Tough to tell if he's feigning, and Catone does not rush in. Munoz clinches and drags Catone to the floor. Catone again stands, though Munoz is the one that lands the knee this time. Munoz again shoves Catone to the cage, and he lands a nice right hand. Munoz takes a second to clean his feet, and Catone allows it. Catone lands another nice right hand. Munoz answers, then narrowly misses a homerun shot. Munoz grabs a guillotine choke as Catone drops to his knees. Referee Yves Lavigne watches closely, but Munoz releases and resorts to a headlock. The round ends, and though Catone had a few stunning shots, MMAjunkie.com sees it for Munoz, 10-9, in another close round.

Round 3 - Smattering of applause as the third round starts. Munoz looks a little but livelier, and he narrowly misses on a single-leg. Munoz lands a punch as he pulls away. Munoz looks comfortable on his feet, though Catone snaps a jab to his nose. Catone misses with a few hard shots, and Munoz ducks under for a shot. Catone slips away, narrowly missing a hard right hand. Munoz looking to attack from the feet, but Catone using decent footwork to escape. Munoz grabs hold of the head, dropping down while looking for a guillotine. Catone jumps to the side and Munoz is forced to release it. Catone tries to grab an ankle lock, but Munoz slips free and spins to top position. Munoz backs away and lands a nice 1-2, but Catone backs away and shoots in. Catone works to the back, though he's too high as Munoz stands and shucks him off. Munoz falls into Catone's guard, then quickly works out to half-mount. One minute remains, and Munoz moves out to side control. Catone turtles, and Munoz passes on a chance to work in a choke in favor of control and a barrage of right hands. Munoz switches to left hands as Catone tries to slip free. Munoz's wrestling background helps him to hold Catone down for the remainder of the round, delivering a few solid punches to the hand and taking the fight on the MMAjunkie.com card, 29-28.

Mark Munoz def. Nick Catone via split decision (28-29, 30-27, 29-28).

CHRIS TUCHSCHERER VS. GABRIEL GONZAGA

Round 1 - UFC heavyweight champion accompanies Tuchscherer to the cage, earning a strong crowd reaction. Gonzaga also receives a very warm welcome. Tuchscherer circles to his right, and Gonzaga throws a strong low kick right to Tuchscherer cup. The replay earns a gasp from the crowd, and the blow could be heard loudly cageside. The action is stopped, and Tuchscherer collapses on the mat. After a few minutes, the ringside doctors come in to take a look, and Tuchscherer begins to wrestle with them. Tuchscherer in obvious pain, and he finally returns to a stool. Tuchscherer stands, though he's still walking a bit gingerly. Gonzaga has been pacing the whole time. Tuchscherer discussing his options with the doctor and match referee. Tuchscherer decides to give it a go. Gonzaga apologizes on the restart. Gonzaga immediately drops Tuchscherer with a heavy left high kick. Gonzaga follows to the floor, delivering more blows as he works to mount. A right hand lands on the jaw and force Tuchscherer to roll. He's bleeding from the nose as Gonzaga looks for a rear-naked choke. It's not there, and Gonzaga rolls out and lands a knee to the ribs. Tuchscherer in major trouble. Gonzaga stands, and Tuchscherer stays on his knee, slowly rising as Gonzaga leaps in for more punishment. Tuchscherer is a bloody mess, and the fight needs to be stopped. It finally, mercifully is as a dazed Tuchscherer receives more punishment. Probably not what Tuchscherer had in mind for his UFC debut.

Gabriel Gonzaga def. Chris Tuchscherer via TKO (punches) - Round 1, 4:27.

Good technical win by Vera. Brutal punch by Marquardt. Great fight between Couture and Noguiera, it was definitely worth the wait. Nog had Couture in 2 chokes which I thought was it for Randy but he fought of those submissions. Also, Nog pounded The Natural in the third round and again he survived it. What a fight! Hats off to the 2 legends.

parang WWE ung main event... nog can finish randy in rnd 1 via KO.. instead nog tried to submit randy. it was a fake choke! hehehe. nog and randy was paid to make a show...

randy should hang his gloves. mahina na sya sa mga head shots...

Do you really think it was a fake choke? Its actually a D' arce choke if I'm not mistaken...

Sayang It did not happen before UFC 100...Other wise it would go down as the number one fight, Even better than the Bonnar VS Forest TUF Finale...

Though nog won, In terms of skills and personal will, technicals and other fight factors I call it a draw... It was the best fight so far... the battle of the senior citizens hehehe. But its worth watching it all over again!

UFC 102 picks (and if I got it right):

(main card)

Couture - Got that wrong by a mile. Nog was amazing. Nog vs. Brock? Wow, that's gonna be a treat.

Silva - Got that right. Yep, Thiago just proved to me how inconsistent Jardine is.

Maia - Got that wrong. He'll forever be remembered... as part of Marquardt's highlight reel! BEAUTIFUL KO!

Vera - That's the best I've seen Brandon since destroying Frank Mir. Some were dissapointed, but picking off Soz is harder than it seems.

Rosholt - Got that right. Scary. He choked Leben out, and Chris started twitching.

(undercard)

Simpson - Got that right, but not like this. Herman tweaked his knee BAD. Hope he recovers well.

Gonzaga - Got that right. The Brock Lesnar lookalike didn't stand a chance.

Mccully - Got that wrong. Mike Russow is someone to look at potentially at heavyweight.

Hague - Got that wrong by a mile. Duffee looked AWESOME. UFC record for fastest KO.

Munoz - Good comeback win by Mark, though it could've gone to Catone. Mark has a long way to go, but he'll get there.

Aurelio - Got this wrong, and I deserve to. Dunham looked impressive.

Why not hate on Dana W./UFC!? There the ones who didnt want to co-promote! :P

What M-1 Global wants kasi is essentially illegal. They want a 50/50 split on all events that Fedor participates in, which is ludicrous based on good business practice. Nobody can just come in and say, "Hey, split the total revenue in half, and by revenue we mean EVERYTHING, then we can talk". That's just ludicrous. The "co-promotion" shtick that M-1 Global wants is beyond just simple co-promotion between the M-1 Global and UFC brands, that's why Zuffa (not the UFC, the actual owners of the UFC brand) don't want that deal.

Dude, if you have half a brain and if you haven't been caught in an actual D'Arce / Brabo choke, don't you dare talk like that. Yes, Nog was close to finishing Randy, but Randy was defending well despite being knocked down several times. He was more in danger when he got caught in the D'Arce choke then when he was knocked down. Credit that to his wrestling and his sheer heart.

And to accuse both Randy AND Nog of working a fight? That's just bullshit. Get your facts right, watch the fight again, Google "D'Arce / Brabo Choke" and learn, and try rolling with someone and actually try to do what they do. Then try and dare to say that the fight was a work.

Friggin' TUF Generation noob. <_<
