In Quezon, drug supply low in wake of killings

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/795835/in-quezon-drug-supply-low-in-wake-of-killings

LUCENA CITY—The prevailing climate of fear among drug users and peddlers has shrunk the supply and market for illegal drugs in Quezon province, police and sources in the underground trade said.

“The scarcity of ‘shabu’ from regular sources is now being felt because of the lack of supply and the prevailing fear among pushers and users,” said a confessed drug pusher in this city.

The source said drug dependents, who could not control the urge to use drugs, are forced to buy shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) at a higher price.

“Their usual P100 per hit (referring to a granule of shabu that is enough for one user) in the past now costs P300 to P500, if they can find a pusher who is brave enough to sell drugs today,” he said.

In Quezon, the death toll in drug-related killings rose to 35 since President Duterte was sworn into office on June 30, police reports showed. Most were gunned down by unidentified assassins, leading many to believe they were victims of vigilantes.

The President, during the election campaign, had promised to be unrelenting in the fight against illegal drugs.

Another pusher in Lucena, who has been selling illegal drugs for the past four years, said fear has stricken them due to cases of summary executions of suspected drug pushers.

There are killings almost every day and I personally know one of the victims … Even in my sleep, I can see the barrel of a gun [pointed] at me,” he said.

saan at kelan naman yung +26 na yan?

the POLL WAS MADE DAYS BEFORE HIS INAUGURATION....

kumbaga, puhunan yan.....

Poll was taken first week of May, and released right after elections so +26 was Duterte's trust rating by ELECTION DAY. Moved up to +79 by the time of his INAUGURATION. Both conducted by SWS if I remember correctly.

Agree, puhunan yan. "Political Capital" as we would call it. Duterte, like PNoy, now enjoys a large chunk of political capital at the start of his term. And whether this is the true sentiment of the majority or not, the up side for me is that it prevents investors from getting spooked by the skepticism of some people (myself included) about Duterte's administration. We are enjoying economic gains from the previous administration, and if we continue the momentum, we'll enjoy higher economic growth than China whose economic bubble is just about to burst. The last thing we want to do is to jeopardize whatever gains we have already achieved.

Campaign jingle composer named Duterte adviser

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/796015/campaign-jingle-composer-named-duterte-adviser

The rocker is now a presidential adviser.

Musician and businessman Ramon “RJ” Jacinto, who composed the campaign jingle of President Duterte in the May elections, has joined the select few who give him counsel, having been named presidential adviser on economic affairs and information technology communications.

Malacañang on Thursday announced Jacinto’s appointment with the rank of undersecretary.

Popularly known as a guitarist and rock and roll musician, Jacinto helped gather support for Mr. Duterte during the campaign and wrote a jingle for him extolling him as a “man of action without corruption.”

He also owns a radio and TV station, as well as a company with interests in real estate development, retail and manufacturing. His family established Jacinto Steel, considered the pioneer manufacturer of galvanized iron sheets in the country.

Jacinto is the latest entertainment personality to get a post in the Duterte administration.

Earlier, TV host Arnell Ignacio and singer Jimmy Bondoc were named assistant vice presidents of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. Ignacio handles community relations, while Bondoc is in charge of entertainment.

Former TV host and reporter Katherine de Castro has been named tourism undersecretary for media affairs.

Folk singer Freddie Aguilar, a frequent performer at Mr. Duterte’s campaign rallies, is also reported to be up for the leadership of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

I dont know what to say for now, but let me give the ball to you haters/critics - PAAASOKK!!!

To be honest nakakadisappoint ang recent appointments.

Si Jacinto Cum Laude naman daw yan sa Ateneo (if i recall the article i read correctly) which is a + education wise, kaso may mga bankruptcy issues negosyo niya at may mga anomalya siya before which is a -.

Not appoint them?

On Topic: What do I expect next?

In the next few weeks maybe Mocha Uson will be appointed to a cabinet position...

Tsk tsk..

On Topic

What to critics/haters/hypocrites expect?

"We expect the Duterte leadership to fail fail fail! kahit ano basta me maipangsumbat lang kami lagi"

Not to mention hypocrites. Mga taong araw araw nagdadasal na sana me lumabas sa balita na me sablay administrasyon ng makapangsumbat naman sila.

well cant blame them kung meron naman talagang dapat isumbat tulad ng ganitong mga balita regarding appointments.. They have the right to raise their eyebrows. Even me, I dont really understand these kind of choices in handling/giving positions to people without government service experiences.

Pero yun mga jetski na yan, yun kelangan to the letter masunod na First day me FOI na, at kelangan wala ng gagawa ng krimen in 6 months, I mean... really?

Pero sige, valid concern naman siguro na how much does he know ba about our art history?

Oh I know what I am talking about.

Don't get me wrong here please. I am not saying that the Government should not waste time doing something like this.

Hindi yung "this lawyer appointed by pres. duterte is the former lawyer of napoles" na parati natin nakikita sa media article.

Plus- matalino, may pinagaralan, Minus- may bankruptcy news, tapos may anomalies- Balanse di ba?

On Topic- I expect the president to expedite yung mga laws na pinangako niya during the campaign, sana in 3 years time maipasa ng congress which supports him. Bantayan niya rin economy and keep it steady.

2. Nasa number 1 na sagot.

4. O sige, Ill take yun sinabi mo at face value. Puntos ka dyan

Duterte, Peter Lim were sponsors at same wedding

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/796668/duterte-peter-lim-were-sponsors-at-same-wedding

CEBU CITY—Did Cebuano businessman Peter Lim and President Duterte know each other before their meeting in Davao City on Friday?

Lim and Duterte are “kumpare,” as they both stood as primary sponsors during a wedding at Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu province on June 25, according to Lim’s spokesperson, Dioscoro Fuentes Jr.

Fuentes called a news conference here on July 8 to deny that the businessman was the Peter Lim named by Mr. Duterte in an address on national television the day before as the one of the country’s top drug lords.

He said Mr. Duterte and Lim were among the principal sponsors at the wedding of Yuri Ofek, an Israeli expatriate who works as country manager of a local business outsourcing company, and Beatrice Borja.

“If you’ll look at it, my client and our beloved President are kumpare,” Fuentes told reporters.

Other principal sponsors included Sen. Cynthia Villar and her husband, former Sen. Manny Villar. Their son, Mark, is now the secretary of public works.

Duterte supporter

Borja is the only child of businessman Fernando Borja, owner of Adnama Group of Companies and a close friend of Mr. Duterte who supported his presidential campaign, sources said.

The company is into export, mining and real estate, among other businesses.

The businessman hosted a thanksgiving dinner for Mr. Duterte at Level 8 in Adnama Building at the Mandaue Reclamation Area on June 8.

During the July 8 news conference, Fuentes said Lim had no plans of meeting the President to clear his name.

“The Peter Lim of Cebu is a very shy person. I don’t think he has the gall to ask the President for a meeting. Sending the President a letter is an option. But the decision shall come from him (Lim),” he said.

Apparently, Lim changed his mind and flew to Davao on Friday to see Mr. Duterte and to deny he was the drug lord named Peter Lim being sought by the police.

Valid point.

Anong klase yan?

Moreover, good job BUCOR and DOJ

Theft, robbery down in Metro; killings up

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/797440/theft-robberies-down-in-metro-but-killings-up

The weekly average for the past two weeks were nearly double or double the averages for the first 26 weeks of the year: A daily average of two for murder and one for homicide.

“Murder and homicide increased because of incidents of found bodies on the streets,” Albayalde explained. Many of the bodies displayed written signs declaring them as criminal or drug user or pusher. These are believed to be victims of summary killings.

Meanwhile, figures showed that 509 cases of crimes against property were reported in the first two weeks of July, a daily average of 34 compared to 42 during the preceding weeks.

For July, so far, 144 robbery cases, a daily average of 10, and 324 theft cases, or 22 per day, were reported. These are lower than the daily averages for the first 26 months of 2016: 12 for robbery and 25 for theft.

Daily average for motor vehicle and motorcycle thefts have also gone down: from five in the first 26 months of the year to two in the past two weeks.

“So the PNP chief was correct to say that street crimes have gone down. This is the effect of our campaign against illegal drugs, because all street crimes are related to illegal drugs,” Albayalde said.

“Mostly, crimes [against property] are the ones related to illegal drugs, especially theft, because a person would steal just to buy their drugs,” the NCRPO chief said.

For me its good. I know most of the killings are salvaged drug pushers. Normally this is really not good but the ratio of drug addicts in every barangays are really surprising. Masyado na talagang talamak that its really a biilion dollar business kaya kahit Generals kaya nilang presyuhan. Extreme cases needs extreme measures.

In other words kung mangyari yan sa isang kapamilya mo you will accept it wholeheartedly? hindi magbabago pananaw mo? Hindi mo sasabihin na bakit pa kailangan i-salvage sana hinuli at kinulong na lang just as what I often hear from family members of victims.

Btw, you said "you know most of the killings are salvaged drug pushers" ... curious lang ako kung ang basehan ba ay official report ng imbestigastion dahil natukoy na talagang pushers o addict ang mga ito o dahil may nakasabit na "PUSHER AKO" nun nakita ang bangkay?
