Smart Gilas Vs. BK

Today, we got clobbered, literally and figuratively, by the 'BK Whoopers'! It was more of a boxing match than a basketball match. We expected it, but we didn't see it coming this bad.

Our offense wasn't so bad as we were still able to score 105 points and shot 47% from the field. BUT it was our defense that killed us, as we allowed 115 points for BK. We lost the rebounding battle as well by 12. BK played a great game today as well and made the necessary adjustments. They shot 59% from the field! That's excellent.

For me it's not so much about the X and O's. It was their viciousness that got us out of our normal rhythm. 4 flagrant fouls in the first half and Winnie Arboleda's "attacking a fan" moment saw our 13 point lead disappear. Our players became hesitant to drive to the basket and dive for the loose balls. Most coaches will probably instruct their players to play physical when playing against a younger, skinnier and faster team in order to intimidate them. But playing dirty, is something else. It was a fitting initiation for us in our debut game in the PBA.

It was a sorry loss for the Gilas team. We don't expect the referees to cut us some slack as seen today. It's as if there were two different standards for both teams. But that's precisely why we're in the PBA as a guest team. We're here to learn, to toughen up when playing more experienced and physical players.

It's just really embarrassing to see a veteran/franchise player behave so unprofessionally. After getting away with a slap to the face of JV Casio, an elbow again to the face of JV and a football tackle to Mac Baracael, he still hasn't had enough and goes up to the stands to beat up a Gilas fan. All that in just 3 minutes inside the court. I am really curious to see what actions or inactions the PBA will take for such actions.

Nevertheless, it was an entertaining game. See you Wednesday vs Talk and Text.

i'm now watching the replay of their game against burger king right now @ btv. indeed, the bk players were out to rough house the smart gilas. i believe it was uncalled for. playing physical is far different from playing with intent to hurt your opponent. maybe it was guiao's instructions to hurt the smart gilas to get back at them after humiliating him and his own philippine team when they faced off.

but then, wala namang tumama sa mga suntok ni arboleda dun sa fan ;)

My take is aside from the humiliation the Powerade team got from Smart, BK may have been bitter coz Aguilar ditched them for Smart.

Dapat talaga BAN FOR LIFE! And tama yung isang nag comment dito. COMMISSIONER BARRIOS.......BAN ARBOLEDA FOR LIFE!

Makulit kasi ang kaibigan o fans mo chris tiu, nakalagay na nga sa likod ng ticket na "no profanity" mura pa din ng mura, noong sinugod na ni arboleda 'di naman nakaporma, he talk the talk but he surely don't walk the walk..

About the family issue na kasama ni Wini, sus, dapat sinasabihan na niya yung family niya na ganun ang matatanggap niya at wag na lang pakinggan. Pikon talo talaga.

Nothing special about him aside from being a PBA player

Amen! no insult intended pero nakapatay pa itong tao na to.

LOLO! BALYADOR!! KALBO! TANG NA.....pero natatawa lang. Ganun talaga and siguro alam na niya kung sino yung pinakasalan niya.

connect the dots...

what do wynnie arboleda, jimuel torion and mick penissi (tejada injury) have in common?

Its not fair to Drag the Tejada incident in this issue!

Gilas played well against a PBA Team scoring at least 105 pts not a bad start for the guest team. And for the incident lets not be to harsh on Winnie he's just a human. But penalties should be imposed!

Suggestion... In such where there is a same kind of Fan who used profane words against a certain player. A Team officials can ask the game committee to give a warning to that Fan. If this Fan didn't stop he or she will be ask to live the Arena asap!

Agree! Yun lang nga mayabang kasi si Arboleda dahil asawa nya yung anak ng Team Owner ng BG, who is also one of the board of directors of the PBA. For Lito Alvarez to save face, he should recommend that Arboleda be banned from the PBA forever. Wala naman mawawala kay Arboleda actually. Papaplamunin parin naman sya si Alvarez

The PBA's reason for being is to generate income from paying fans. It is a business to run a team in the PBA. If a PBA player can attack the hand that indirectly feeds him without expecting any retribution, then the whole premise of the PBA's very reason of existence is in shambles.

Unless the PBA becomes an inter-corporate league between SMC, the MPIC teams with guest teams Alaska, Sta. Lucia, and Coca-Cola.

Arboleda is a thug. He was always a thug and will always remain a thug. He plays with the intent to hurt and get away with it. In the game vs. Smart Gilas, he was putting extra mustard on his hits. He wasn't there to hurt, he was there to maim. If the PBA allows their players to k*ll one another without doing anything then that's call. But once a player starts attacking fans then that's another story.

Arboleda should be banned by the PBA. For life. Banned from playing, banned form being involved with anything has something to do witht he league. Is fair? Probably not. But that attack on a fan who paid to watch the games was far from fair either, regardles of the provocation. Want to bet that Arboleda will serve jail time if the fan pusrsues to file a criminal case?

Amidst all the should have's and justifications being forwarded by every Tom, Dick and Harry, one fact remains clear: Arboleda attacked a fan. He was seen by millions hitting a helpless man. He was seen hitting him over and over again. This is an easy case to prosecute. Phusical injuries at the very least.

you must've misinterpreted my post

to clarify, what I'm talking about is the precipitating incidents happening prior to Arboleda's attack on Katigbak

Torion clearly clotheslined Jimmy Alapag with no intention of going after ball but rather Alapag's face

Pennisi was involved why Tejada fell (he in fact received a foul for that) and while Tejada was still face down, he did fall on Tejada's back.

i believe meron replays nyan sa youtube, check it out.

Same with, what do Rudy Distrito, dela Cruz, Gonzalgo have in common?......you "call the shots" :thumbsupsmiley:

exactly my point, these guys are so professional that

ung attitude ng player contra other players on the floor is highly dependent on how the coach would want them to take

sometimes they go over the edge but that doesnt start without the coach giving some form of green light in the first place

besides, kapag alam ng coach that his boy is getting out of control at wala na sa gameplan ang ginagawa

he always have that option to pull the player out, dba?

I must say that Arboleda is quite lucky dahil 'di lifetime ban ang naging penalty n'ya for attacking a fan of SG. Nakakatawa ang mga comments doon sa video posted on youtube, some of the comments aren't exactly on katigbak's favor esp. with ones that pertains to his sexual preference.
