kuya willie
boxing nowadays suck ass( except for pac). masyadong maraming kaartehan. tapos ang boring ng laban, all they do is prance around the ring like Micheal Jackson. While MMA is fast paced , unpredictable and exciting, wala pang maarteng fighter at promoter! this is the new era of combat sport Quote Link to comment
Palakol
I prefer boxing. I'd rather see two fighters stand up and fight like real men, than two guys locked up in a "missionary" position on the ground as if they were re-enacting a dry-humping scene from a gay porn flick.Spoken like a true narrow-minded, ignorant, biased boxing fan. orionquest
nah, boxing is here to stay.. its too old of a sport and a glamorous one at that.. dont get me wrong im a mma fan rather than a boxing fan.. mma is totally different from boxing, fast paced fights, different set of rules, different disciplines and various ways to win as to boxing's ko and decision.. theres also the aspect of fan base.. skill wise.. mma fighters are better.. dont get me wrong but i think even pacquiao nor mayweather wont last 5 rounds with frankie edgar.. who else? middleweights like kelly pavlik will get killed by anderson silva or by welterweight champ george st pierre.. even heavyweights vitali and vladimir klitschko would get knocked out by light heavyweights rashad evans, lyoto machida, chuck liddell and shogun rua. i dread the thought of these boxing heavyweights facing brock lesnar, cain velasquez, junior dos santos, frank mir or shane carwin.. both are totally different sports. lets apprecate each kind as what it is.. knoll1234
People from MMA knows this, even dana white, that the mixed martial arts market is limited. Remember the vince mcmahon era of wrestling, It's all but a figment of our imagination, whereas in the 80's, it was king., whatever these sports are, will fade, but the sports of boxing will hang on forever. djrs
Skill wise MMA is better? i beg to disagree.. not all MMA fighter knows how to box well.. though everyone can throw a punch.. thats why Mir and penn likes pacquiao skill in boxing.. yep you can win via submission or KO... but usually champions in MMA usually good in using their boxing skills.. why? it is the easiest way to win because it uses MMA gloves. MMA is not yet that mature been watching it since the 90's. but for me still both will co-exist... if an MMA fighter fight a boxer in a boxing rules who will win? definitely a boxer will win at a higher percentage.. if a boxer fight in the octagon? definitely the MMA fighter will have an Edge on it.. for example Brock lesnar is an amateur wrestler and also a good boxer... but now he is a champion.. but still learning on the MMA way of fighting.. pits_of_jairo
^ very well said, sir. it's all about them rules. but i think these 2 sports could co-exist. wag lang syempre pag-aawayin, hehehe! picture this, even the nastiest street brawler wont win if they were pitted against a boxer in a boxing match with the usual boxing rules and regulation... same as with a MMA fighter with the usual mma rules. But let em fight in the streets (though boxers and mma'ers has a BIG chance of winning) and we can see that a street thug can give a great fight, malamang madumi nga lang... hehe! DarkCrimson
Same thing happened and realized on UFC day 1. Boxer vs Jujitsu. Suko kagad si Art Jimmerson kay Royce Gracie. Boxing has too many rules that prevented them to utilize their other body weapons. Un din inakala ni James Tony nung sumali cia sa UFC. Edited February 14, 2011 by DarkCrimson Quote Link to comment
SaintPeter5858
Of course MMA has become more popular than boxing Quote Link to comment
joseph1
Wow. Old thread gets resurrected. Anyway, my 2 cents since I'm mostly active in the MMA thread:It is/will be more popular than boxing. k*ll boxing? Definitely not since one of the necessary skills in MMA is boxing itself. Theoretically, hands will always be quicker than feet and have the added advantage of not having to worry about being caught in a single for a takedown. JDS and Stipe Miocic (only two that come to mind at the moment but there are quite a few more) are two MMA fighters who come from a heavy boxing background and are obviously successful. Li'l Nog also has a boxing background having been a Brazilian HW and Pan Am champ and is a pretty good MMA fighter too. Edited February 21, 2012 by joseph1 Quote Link to comment

But some knockouts have been thru punching too. It's really nice to be holistic fighter Quote Link to comment
