  1. I have decided to open a thread like this because all over the internet people are already talking about it. I just hope they don't have a similar one existingEven Joe Calzaghe himself admits that boxing is not as lucrative as it used to be decades ago now that the UFC is reaching mainstream. Once upon a time the boxing heavyweight championship was the most coveted title in all of sports. But now, there isn't even a heavyweight contender in the pound for pound rounds. Most analysts agree that there is indeed a steady decline of fighters in the heavyweight division. Even the Klitschko brothers have not yet fought any career defining fights. The only legends that are still active would be Riddick Bowe and Evander Holyfield who both obviously already have diminished skills. Could David Haye perhaps emerge as a genuine champion now that he is in the heavyweight division? So here is my take MMA. The Upside Those of you looking for real deal in your face action. This is the one for you. I mean in boxing just because people are throwing punches does not mean they are actually doing some real fights. MMA is what real fights should be, raw and painful. Floyd Mayweather would not be running his big mouth, and Tyson would not be the baddest man in the planet, if they had an opponent that was allowed to tackle his leg and give them a knee to the face. The Downside Its too young as a sport. Meaning no genunine teachnique has actually evolved to be the perfect arsenal in this sport. Fights are ended too early, and sometimes its out of one lucky punch. Sometimes its not even an issue of who is the more skilled fighter, its the issue of who can get the upperhand. When Brock Lesnar Beat Randy Coutoure I did not think that lesnar was the better fighter in that fight he got lucky. There are only a few champions in this sport that leave a legacy. Moreso, its easier to get a title shot, lesnar got his with only after 4 fights. BOXING The upside Say what you want, but boxing is a sport. It requires genuine skills to become great. Very few people in this sport win with a lucky shot, and boxing has already produced a lot of great champs that left quite a legacy. Nobody in this sport gets a title shot after a few fights. One has to rise to the ranks to become a true champion The Downside The heavyweight division is declining. People are also asking for the type of action they no longer find when fighters wear 12 ounce gloves. Its a very one dimensional sport. Anyway fight fans lets hear what you think
Afterall its good to have a course that instills good old fashioned military discipline, and afterall its also good to learn stuff like making the other poor bastard die for country and cause. In fact in korea, students are required to do service in the army for at least two years. They live in the barracks, they dress up like soldiers, and they get issued a firearm, the whole nine yards. Because of programs like this, their armed forces are strong. Unfortunately for me having undertaken the program I do not believe that it has strengthened our military, neither do I believe that it promotes patriotism and all that other bullsh!t objectives they said. Heck if it did eh di sana hangang ngayon mandatory pa rin ang ROTC. But don't get me wrong I am all for it. I do want to have a program like this under the following conditions. 1.) Those that handle the program must have a clear curicculum of the course, heck they should have a syllabus the way PE does. The Cadettes should learn something tangible like for petes sake! how not to get shot by the enemy, how to handle battle wounds, how to fire a weapon etc., how to handle himself in hand to hand combat. 2.) The ROTC department should never enjoy complete autonomy from the policies of the school itself. Any anomaly they make, they should be also subjected to investigation. If they create income generating project i.e. uniforms, boots, et. al they should follow proper bidding procedures of the schools. 3.) There should be a clear guideline for conduct of a proper officer and a gentleman. Ang hirap ito ang pina hindi nasusunod, the program should train officers that will help defend this country and not create bullies behind ranks. Kadalasan pa nga nananakit sila ng kadete just for the fun of it kahit minsan wala na naman yun kinalaman sa training nila. I mean sure, no pain no gain, paminsan minsan kelangan mo magpa push up man lang kung walang disiplina kadete mo, but officers should also know that a rank is not a license to bully your subordinates. I mean its the officers duty to protect his men, not to be the first one to k*ll them, especially when they go out of line. All physical punishments or otherwise should be done in context with the training itself. 4.) Cadet officers should maintain a grade requirement like varsity players do.
  3. Mark Twain once said that its the clothes that make the man, men wth too little clothes or naked can make no influence to the people sorrounding them. As much as I have respect for mark twain, I also do not believe that crap. I mean if that were true, then how come oblation runners make the headlines every feruary, or how come naked women in FHM tend to become more popular than award winning actresses. Personally, I beleive that there is absolutely no person in this planet who can wear all kinds of clothing. I beleive more what the french people say that it is not the habbit that makes the monk. You see this is why I hate watching fashion shows, or reading fashinon magazines, for me its really an utter waste of my precious time. First of all the clothes that models wear look good on them precisely because they are alreay good looking. Most of the time fashion photos do not necessarily focus on the quality of clothing itself, but the models themselves. At the end of the day, you are left thinking that if you buy thier product, you will get to look like Richard Guttierez, or Jerry Yan. And when you find out that you don't regardless of what clothes you wear, what you are left with is massive insecurity about yourself. Take a look at the likes of Annabelle Rama for instance. Why? because it is in the very way she projects herself, lets face it guys, nobody can learn how to be elegant overnight. On the other hand, if you are the kind of person who knows how to dress up, who can carry yourself with elegance, and most of all if you know how to pick the right clothing, then at the end of the day Calvin Klien is nothing more but a name. Kahit pa segunda mano damit mo, you can still shine like a new penny. I watch a lot of pinoy shows on TFC that feature make over, and the final product?
