Any plain hardware thinner works. Was using kerosene before they became more expensive than thinner.

I second emotion!

For canopies, windshields and other clear parts, it's either this or Elmer's Glue.

For sealing cracks and large part seam gaps, I sue super glue.

 

i agree on elmers glue, had a hobby master harrier where a small part chipped off the first time i put the model out of the box six months ago. i had no available plastic cement then so i used it & to my surprise it did just fine as an adhesive

 

chanced upon the latest russian 5th gen jet fighter at JMN, will try to give it a justifiable paint job with just a brush

There's a scale modeling shop at the ground floor of the carpark near where Goldcrest was. Mukhang sila yung dating nasa Goldcrest. They have a decent selection. They even had a MiG-31 kit when I was there. Another place is Lil's at basement level, Bldg. A of Megamall.

That depends on the parts. Interior parts are usually painted as sub assemblies. Some exterior parts that are hard to paint and detail may be painted as individual parts before assembly, then masked before painting the overall exterior. It will depend really on how you find it practical to paint. Scale modeling is about enjoying the build experience and appreciating the output so you'd have to think what's the easiest way for you to paint and come up with model that you're satisfied with.

FAIL!!!!

 

i used those spay paint in cans for the metallic finish for the fork of my model bike.

now i realized na dapat hindi ako nagtipid na sa airbrush... never ko mapantay ang thickness ng paint job ko.

kahit adjust ko yung distance ng nozzle to the object that i want to paint ( to get finer mist)

i end up kumapal ng kumapal yung paint hahahaha...

 

also, i intend to use paint brush to paint the gas tank and some body parts of the bike, sama din ng result

since curved ang mga item, iba iba ang diin ng brush. uneven finish ulit....

 

i thing i have done right is yung signal light ng bike. and the headlight that i want to be a semi foglight..

i painted the inside of the "light" with light shade of orange for signal lights, and i use a single strand of hair to "dot" the area for added detail before pala to apply the orange paint.

 

for the yellowish headlight, very light yellow ang nilagay ko. parang totoong oldschool headlight ang kinalabasan.

 

alternately, naisip ko lang just now,since you are painting from the inside, you can just paint the signal light with orange then poke/scratch the painted surface and top it with any color that suits the detail. mas madali yata yun....

 

il try it if i got time.

mga masters please give me tips on how to paint engines and exhausts... i just used different shades of black with small amount of silver. happy naman ako sa result but i think you guys can bring more life out of it..

 

 

next: for exhausts of racing car engines, you might want to add the "thermal wrap" by using real cloth and just double tape it then outline it with a pen for details on small rusts.. weathering na yata yun hehehehehe

Use the side-cut type of cutter/pliers, and cut a little bit away from the part. Then use the scalpel or x-acto knife to cut the small remaining part off.

 

Reason for this is if you cut the part very close to the finished surface form the sprue, tendency is you'll have a deformed plastic section. So better cut a liitle bit away from the finished surface so the deformation of the plastic sprue will be on the small material you'll leave between. Then you can trim off the excess material with less pressure and better accuracy using the scalpel.

 

Also have a small file or fine sandpaper on hand to finish the area. Use this to smoothen the surface and completely hide the original point of attachment. Just be careful of the details around the area.

Maraming brands available. Common sa Pilipinas ang Badger. Kahit sa National Book store meron. You can look for bargains in Manila. Some art supply stores in the U-Belt and Binondo area might offer it cheaper. Just heard about this but have not been able to confirm it though.

 

Another good brand is Gunze Sangyo. Meron sa Special Toys.

 

In the US, Aztec brand offers interchangable nozzle tips for quick paint change/faster operation. Havent seen one here.

 

For these you will need the air brush and a separate compressor with regulator.

 

For basic/beginner air brushing, Tamiya sells a complete kit which has an airbrush and a matching compressor. Meron sa Lil's.

 

If you are really serious about air brushing, I suggest you look at the different models of Badger and Gunze Sangyo. Then invest in an air compressor - either the small tabletop units you can see in hobby shops, or the floor models which have their own tank. I recommend getting the floor model. It is cheaper and can be repaired. You can also use it with a bigger spray gun and move on to bigger projects (pwedeng pang pinta ng furniture, car, cabinet, etc).

^ salamat mga sir. may mga palpak din yan lalo na pag makita up close. 1st time ko kasi gumawa ng hindi akin kaya nataranta ako hehehe

@buchike: pagawa lang sa akin yan sir. sana magustuhan ng friend ko yung pagkakagawa ko. tungkol sa pag-airbrush naman sir dapat practice palagi lalo na kung realistic ang dating. trial and error talaga saka kasama na yung pagtimpla ng paint. ako kasi mas lamang thinner kesa paint pag nagtitimpla. build lang ng build sir
