Al Mendoza is another stupid sports analyst and sour loser who made his bet to ODLH knowing that an aging 35 year old and future hall of fame boxer can still pull the trigger....hehehe... :boo:

Analyst: De la Hoya prepared to lose

abs-cbnNEWS.com | 12/08/2008 10:48 AM

Did Oscar de la Hoya throw the fight against Manny Pacquiao?

According to veteran sportswriter Al Mendoza, de la Hoya's lackluster performance against the Pacman fell far short of the "Golden Boy's" usual caliber and is raising doubts that the Mexican champ had no intention of winning the fight.

"If Pacquiao went into that fight prepared to win, de la Hoya went in prepared to lose. [De la Hoya] won championships in six weight divisions and a gold medal in the Olympics but last Saturday, he didn't turn in an Oscar award-winning performance. He could have won an Oscar award for not fighting," Mendoza told radio dzMM.

"He didn't look like the Golden Boy. More like the Olden Boy," he added.

Asked if he thought if de la Hoya had deliberately lost the match, he said: "Kung dederechuhin natin, parang benta (If we want straight talk, it's like he sold the match)."

He also echoed the words of sports columnist Jimmy Cannon who once wrote: "Boxing is the red-light district of sports."

Mendoza, who rooted for de la Hoya before the fight, said Pacquiao threw 333 punches in the fight of which 59 percent found its mark. On the other hand, de la Hoya threw about 164 bombs but less than half hit the Pinoy boxer.

He said de la Hoya's performance was so listless that the referee could have warned the Mexican as early as the sixth round that the fight would not continue if de la Hoya did not box.

He also downplayed reports that de la Hoya's age and weight loss resulted in him losing the fight. "Loss in weight should not be a factor, especially with [de la Hoya's] caliber. He has people who could train him to offset that," he said in Filipino.

In the end, however, Mendoza said he will not belittle Pacquiao's victory since the Pinoy boxer trained very hard for the fight and deserved the win.

"We're not belittling [Pacquiao's] win but his opponent was not very good. This was a TKO without hardly putting up a fight. De la Hoya was like de la Hopia," he said. (Hopia is a type of soft pastry.)

Pacquiao, the pint-sized pugilist from General Santos City, came into the "Dream Match" as an underdog against the taller and more experienced de la Hoya. But from the first round to the ninth round stoppage, Pacquiao demolished the Golden Boy's height and reach advantage with such blinding speed that the Mexican had to go to the nearest hospital after the fight for a checkup.

The Filipino stepped up two weight classes to meet de la Hoya in the 147-lb division. He last fought and won the WBC lightweight crown against David Diaz in Las Vegas in June this year.

De la Hoya last fought at 147 lbs when he lost by split decision to Shane Mosley on June 17, 2000. The following year, he won against Arturo Gatti at 146.

Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer earlier told Manila-based sports analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz that Pacquiao will get a guaranteed purse of $6 million while de la Hoya gets $20

Pacquiao was 'Goliath', not de la Hoya

Boxing purists got it right from the start: the Dream Match between Pacquiao and de la Hoya was indeed a mismatch. The fight, however, ended the other way around: underdog Pacquiao outclassed the once classy de la Hoya via technical knockout.

“Goliath, er, Pacquiao, had slayed de la Hoya, who we might never see in the ring again (or at least shouldn't see in the ring again) after a massive destruction that landed him in the hospital as a precaution afterward,” said ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael.

Rafael, who himself favored de la Hoya to win, described Pacquiao as a master inside the ring.

“Pacquiao was a master, strafing de la Hoya with brutal straight lefts all night,” said Rafael.

He said the Filipino’s blinding speed almost turned de la Hoya into a statue.

“His speed was impressive against the statue-like de la Hoya, the 35-year-old Golden Boy whose pretty face was messed up when the carnage was over,” Rafael said.

HBO boxing writer Chuck Johnson said the upset win was clearly not included in the boxing script.

“It was clear from the start that the theater of the unexpected was changing another boxing script,” he said.

Johnson said that it was surprising to see Pacquiao taking the fight to the expected winner.

“The stunning part was that Pacquiao not only won but also dictated virtually every round of the scheduled 12-round fight,” he said.

PhilBoxing.com's Ed de la Vega said the Filipino proved his critics wrong as defied all the odds.

“A whole plethora of so called ‘experts’ said it cannot be done. Many insisted it should not be done,” said de la Vega. “But what made it a cut above was not only because the little guy won, but how he won.”

He added that the vindication and the boxing glory that came from the win has made Pacquiao’s triumph even sweeter.

“Forget the alphabet titles and the sparkling belts that come with them. This one is for all the marbles and the glory (and the money) that can only come with fights of this magnitude,” said de la Vega.

bad thing is masyadong pinaghandaan ni dlh kung pano nya gagamitin ang ht and wt advantage nya sa round one unat na unat sya and kinocorner nya ang mas maliit na si pacman. pacman's fighting stance is very hard but this is the reason why some boxers avoiding him. once hindi nasolve total demolition ang aabutin. never questio the age of other boxer na tinalo ni pacman. they didnt reach their 40's. dlh still the dlh whe he fight steve forbes. na nanalo sya ng ud. he just cant solve the play of this lttle southpaw. nde pa ganun katanda si barrera at moralez. barrera is just 34 as of now, 29 sya nung una syang matalo kay pacman, same age ngaun ni pacman, some people wala na sa prime si barrera that time(is this early aging syndrome?). the reality they cant solve the style of pacman. jmm is 35 now pero nde sya masyadong nadurog ni pacman. its just happen na mas effective ang style nya kesa kay barrera(sorry sa fans ni barrera) moralez is just 32 as of now but he find more difficult to resolve matching up with pacman style. they are ol fighting in orthdox stance, together with dlh they are all orthodox na favorte food ng hungry fist ni pacman. hahaha

let see kung may magagawa si hatton and gayweather kay pacman. sabi nga ng analys walang kadaladala.

Cry! Cry! Baby Marquez! Cry! Cry!

I see no reason kung bakit dapat pagaksayahan pa ng panahon ni Manny is Marquez. Marquez has got a lot to prove, si manny wala na.

Besides after 24 rounds, and being put down by the same guys 4 times, you oughta know who is the better fighter between the two.

Yes Marquez landed more punches than MP in their last bout. The cleaner, and more solid punches were delivered by pacquiao in that 2nd fight.

This is why many believe (myself included), that de la hoya won that fight against mayweather. it was odlh who was putting the pressure on him and pitting him. In terms of the quality of punches ODLH was landing the better ones

Dela Hoya - TKO 9 - Easy Win

David Diaz - TKO 9 - Easy Win

Marquez - Split Decision (debatable)

Barrera - Unanimous Decision - Easy Win

Solis - KO 8 - Easy Win

Morales - KO 3 - Easy Win

Larios - Unanimous Decision - Easy Win

Morales - KO 10 - Ito medyo hirap din sya

Velaquez - TKO 6 - Easy Win

Morales - Lost UD

He is overrated. But first MP must beat Hatton on england soil to solidify more his greatness, imagine sa england pa. Ma giging katumas na nya si Beckham, England rugby team and Spice girls and beetles sa kasikatan hehehe! God save the Queen!!!!!

Thank you MANNY for proving me wrong.

I am the biggest Manny fan, but I thought it was going to be a mismatch. There was simply too much going against him.

BUT great FIGHT PLAN, executed PERFECTLY. And I am probably the happiest for being WRONG (in my analysis). :D

Only flaws I saw:

1. Karylle's rendition of the national anthem (sorry, I know her personally)

2. Manny thanking all those f#&king politicians in the post fight interview.

But I loved the magnanimity of Manny in victory (calling ODLH "still my idol"). Makes you proud to be Pinoy.

MANNY SCALED MOUNT OLYMPUS! Nothing short of it. With this latest victory, Manny has elevated himself to the ranks of the Sugar Ray Leonards. He is no longer just the best Pinoy fighter of all time, but ONE THE OF BEST FIGHTERS ever in the world (period).

I rank him now higher than Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran. He has equalled Mike Tyson (boxing career not the stupid antics), Sugar Ray Leonard.

This "upset" is equal to Buster Douglas' pounding of Mike Tyson from pillar to post at the height of Mike Tyson's career.

Pacquiao Caps-Off Hall of Fame Year with Boff Performance

Published by BoxingInsider

OH HENRY!

PACQUIAO’S MANNY-HANDLING OF DE LA HOYA CAPS OFF ARMSTONGESQUE YEAR!

HBO Sports To Present The Exclusive Replay, This Saturday! December 13 on HBO

LAS VEGAS, NEV. (December 7, 2008) – In a battle between Oscar De La Hoya, boxing’s top attraction, and MANNY PACQUIAO, the sport’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, Pacquiao, a 2 -1 underdog, emerged victorious last night, stopping De La Hoya at the end of round eight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

While securing his claim as 2008’s Fighter of the Year, Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs), also capped off a Henry Armstongesque year, winning three fights in three different weight divisions – two of them for world titles. Armstrong, the Hall of Fame fighter, is the only man to hold three world championships simultaneously, a feat he accomplished 70 years ago, capturing world titles at featherweight, welterweight and lightweight (in that order) during a nine-month span between November 1937 and August 1938. Pacquiao, officially proclaimed a National Treasure by the Philippines, captured the WBC super featherweight title in February by defeating Juan Manuel Marquez and the WBC lightweight title in June by knocking out defending champion David Diaz. He completed his personal trifecta by stopping De La Hoya in a welterweight battle. It should be noted that Pacquiao’s last two victories were his debut in each weight division with the latter two full divisions above his previous fight.

“Speed was the answer to this fight,” said Pacquiao. “I was connecting with everything and he was connecting with nothing. The only thing that surprised me in the fight was that my trainer picked the correct round the fight would end! [he was close!] I am very happy that this victory will contribute honor to my country.”

And let’s not forget World-Famous Freddie Roach, a shoo-in for Trainer of the Year, and the architect of Pacquiao’s victories, who confidently predicted that Pacquiao would knock out De La Hoya in the ninth round.

“I knew the first round would tell me how this fight would go and it did,” said Roach. “I knew we had him. Oscar had no legs. He was hesitant. He was shot. The flaw in Oscar is that he doesn’t know how to cut the ring off. We took advantage of that and Oscar paid the price by eating left hands all night long. In the corner after the seventh round I told Manny it was his job to knock Oscar out so go out there and do it. Oscar has had a great career and he has been a great champion. I hope there will be no hard feelings between us. ”

HBO Sports will present Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny Pacquiao, the exclusive replay of their welterweight showdown, This Saturday! December 13 (4:45 p.m. ET / 1:45 p.m. PT with a same night replay at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT) on HBO. The Sports team, which was ringside for the live event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, will call all the action. The replay will be available in HDTV.

At obvious naman na kahit mas maraming suntok na naibigay si marquez, the cleaner and more accurate ones came from pacquiao.

By the way na leech ku na gif nung combo punch ni pacman

Afterall his ego is bigger than his mouth.

Ngayon nya yan patunayan

nice ung .gif mo bro...pwedeng parequest ng .gif??

ungg sa my introduction kay ODLH ung pabukabuka ung bibig nya..hehehe

kakatuwa un e....tnx....

actually thats normal most boxers even in MMA or even in basketball they do that to stretch there muscles on there face so there face will be tougher not feeling stiff. Ung iba nga bagu makipag halikan ganun dun ginagawa  going back I think Mayweather must prove that he really is best fighter in the world. Not retiring at once to save his record wins, Si rocky marciano a former Heavy weight champion in the 50's na undeafeated nag retire lang ung matanda na di tulad Mayweather nag tagu na agad.

Heard the analysis of Al Mendoza, the veteran sports columnist, interviewed by Ted Failon and Korina Sanchez sa DZMM. He said that it was scripted kasi OldenBoy did not boxed/punched Pacman in the 6th and 7th round. Marami daw ganyan sa boxing and Al even went as far as naming boxing as the "red district of sports" Nilaglag daw ni DeLa Hoya ang laban. Any comments on this?

===============================================================================

If ever a boxer will "sell" a fight, hindi magpapabugbog ng ganun ka terible sa kalaban niya. Like the recent Pacman-dela Hoya fight. its too risky trying to make the other fighter punch you up and down at baka ma tsambahan, ikaw ang ma KO. People will say......"si dela Hoya? Promoter? Eh naglalalaglag yan at na KO pa sa huling laban niya!" That reaction will surely be a death blow to Oscar;s promotional outfit.

lol @ Al Mendoza talking out of his ass

That was the Oscar of 10 years ago. The Oscar that manny fought was the same oscar that eked out a decision win over Steve Forbes who also jumped weight from 130lbs. This is the same Oscar who hasn't fought top-caliber fighters in 10 years, but instead opts for fighting over the hill fighters (ala Chavez) or fighters coming up in weight to fight him, all while avoiding top ten fighters who fight in their natural weight classes (Margarito, Pavlik, etc.)

Thinking about it now, I don't see how Manny became the underdog in this, when judging from their careers, Manny has fought better competition (Morales, Marquez, and Barrera) all in their primes and brutalized all of them.

LOL

if you cut weight that fast (as evidenced by the HBO 24/7 documentary, Oscar weighed in at 159 at one point almost 4 weeks before the fight), you will lose something. Plus his special diet was crap. You can't train right if you're body isn't prepared for it.

Al Mendoza has officially lost his credibility.

============================================================================

Pacman once suffered the same fate when he tried to maintained a weight limit when he fought Thailand's 3K Battery years ago in Bangkok. He was so dehydrated as a result of the weight loss that he fell on his fours and could not stand up. Nanghina siya ng husto so he decided to climb up to another weight class.

Al Mendoza, you are a crap! How much did you loose sa pustahan? Shame on you ! . Even Ted Failon and Korina Sanchez bought and drummed up your analysis. (well, I understand coz Pacman left them in favor of GMA-7)
