  1. do lots of threadmill

eat rice in the morning so that you'll feel full throughout the day

    NO pork

eat lean protein foods (chicken, fish)

    eat vegetables

    NO SOFTDRINKS

it doesn't matter if u do 1k sit ups a day, as long as you continue to eat high fat foods walang mangyayari. You'll be able to build up muscle pero the fats will still be there

but i love pork... and i don't think eating rice in the morning will make you feel full throughout the day.

and you probably mean lots of running, right?

  2. 80 protein-20-carb...(supplement lang ito, di pa kasama ang diet...hay people of the philippines!!!)

:thumbsupsmiley:

so let me get this straight. you drink a post-workout drink with an 80-20 carbohydrate-to-protein ratio, then you take simple carbohydrates during mealtime? i'm interested to know your reasoning behind the approach. ^_^

  4. Yes! Baguhan lang si Mike Acuna! First fight nya yun actually! Underweight sya when he fought Drueco, He was cutting down to 155-160 kasi lightweight sana lalaruan nya. Tapos naging welterweight yung laban. Not making excuses but kinabahan talaga yung bata kasi "first time" Hehe... Bawi nalang kami next time!

Sir Palakol! Taga YawYan kampilan po ba kayo?!

Lahat ng Lakay Wushu and SubSports Fighters maganda pinakita! They have complete mma game! Gym Kata had a strong showing too! They are a new team to wreckon with! Maganda toh kasi gumaganda ang competition! :thumbsupsmiley:

hilaw pa kasi kumilos. iyong si duerico, purple belt na raw. mukha pang refrigerator.

    sa hybrid ako. :D

  5. That would be the Sherdog's Top 10 MMA fighters list, hehehehe! Lyoto has a huge following in Sherdog so I wont be surprised if that is based on a Sherdog list of top 10 MMA fighters (considering that Fedor is numero uno in that list.)

By the way, Rashad is no. 5 in the that list. But Matt Hughes could take down The Dragon? You gotta be kidding man, hehehehe! Machida will toy the Matt Hughes in his prime like a Barney Rubble action figure, hehehehe!

    it's actually from yahoo! sports.

  6. Just watched the "M-1 Global" matches by GymKata MMA @ the Pasay Sports Complex last night! Waaaaah! Talo lahat ng pambato namin sa Elorde!? :thumbsdownsmiley:

Lakas ng Lakay Wushu and SubSports guys! Do they train together ba? Anyone here know?! Good striking and ground game! These guys are our best bet for international competitions! :thumbsupsmiley:

the Lakay guys train at Submission Sport when the Baguio boys come down to manila. i haven't seen excellent ground skills from them, but did you see the ground and pound they unleash on their opponents? hot damn. that mark ediva is one tough customer.

    RESULTS:

Franco (Hybrid Yaw Yan) [W] vs. Agcopra. Rear Naked Choke, round 1

Ablasi (Team Lakay) [W] vs. Sabeniano (Hybrid Yaw Yan). TKO, round 1

  7. In fact the best MMA fighters out there have already suffered several defeats of 5 or more.

the current top 10 rated MMA fighters:

    10. Shinya Aoki (19-3)

    9. Urijah Faber (22-2)

    8. Quinton Jackson (29-7)

    7. Lyoto Machida (14-0)

    6. BJ Penn (13-5-1)

    5. Rashad Evans (13-0-1)

    4. Miguel Angel Torres (35-1)

    3. Georges St. Pierre (18-2)

    2. Anderson Silva (23-4)

    1. Fedor Emelianenko (29-1)

^^ Plus the fact that promoters in boxing "feed" their future contenders patsies to jack up their record. 16-0 with 16 KOs does not mean anything in boxing. You need to examine that record carefully and see if there are any rated boxers listed in that 16-0 record. Fault the governing bodies. Their rating method is antiquated. The only governing these organizations do, in fact, is to take the x percent cut off the purse in championship fights.

i.e. the previous post on Fashan 3K Battery.

sometimes it happens that champions take fights against novices for "tune-ups," or merely to improve their fight records. this is particularly common in thailand, where champions face boxers as green as four rounders. for example, Fashan 3K Battery, 59-9-1, goes against guys with 0-1-0 records and even boxers on their debut fight. in his last 10 title defenses since 2003, only four had double-digit wins and none of them even had 20 wins.
  8. bruce actually manages michael's career, and he has always been his brother's business manager, even before bruce got into MMA.

there was one early UFC if I recall correctly where Michael announced the fights, I can't recall which one it is though.

I love bruce for his turn too, sometimes he gets so pumped up about the upcoming fight, you can hear the intensity in his voice, and it almost seems like he's about to go fight too.

IIITSSSS [come on mothaf#&ka', let's do this.] TIIIIMEEEE!

    which one is older?

  9. syempre we all want to get paid more. but the choices people make are not guided solely by money, madami ring factors that can make people change their minds.... sorry kung medyo incoherent ang idea/s ko hehehe

anyway.... i think weight training is standard for sports that need power, syempre to make a muscle stronger you need to expose it to greater stressor, if you don't do weight training and just rely on activities that use body weight, limited ang muscle development as opposed to weight training where athletes can expect to exposed to resistance training greater than their weight

also... i remember mike tyson being known for his great gym work and being able to press over 350 lbs. but did he admit to using steroids?

really? steroids? well that should explain why opponents were literally flying across the ring...

let's just put it this way: two fighters are equal in skill, experience, and everything else. but one can lift double of what the other one can. (in other words, he's just plain stronger.) it's really quite easy to determine which one is more likely to win in a boxing match, right? all else being equal, the stronger fighter will prevail. why not take advantage of that edge strength provides?

All knowing god? And who claimed this to be? Because I said that boxers refrain from bulking up is me claiming to be an all knowing god of boxing?

"Jumping high". So boxers train similar to how high jumpers train? Or even how basketball players train? Or do they train different? Yes, boxers get their power from the legs. Kaya nga they don't know how to punch when sprawled on the canvass or even when they are on top of their opponent like MMA fighters do (I mentioned that before).

But you know what, you win. You've convinced me. Boxers train to bulk up. They run shuttles to work on their footwork. And most of all, the sport that pays the least will attract the best athletes.

 chill, man. just making conversation here. i enjoy the dialogue.

but yup, you got it. that's exactly what i was trying to say since the beginning of this thread. i'm glad you understand. :D

so for all you boxers out there, now you know what to do.

  10. Contradicting? Hmmm... no... you just refuse to get the point. Will (muscles for) jumping high help you in boxing? Will overdeveloping your tongue muscles help you win a boxing bout? So are those muscles "useful" (as far as boxing is concerned). Go ahead say it. Will exercising tongue muscles help win a boxing match? Useful or not? How about jumping high?

jumping high? yes. that is one of the most general measurements of lower body explosive power. (and boxers punch from the legs).

tongue muscles? can't say that it will helps me in a fight. but i am not an all-knowing god of boxing to claim that i know for a fact that it will not help in any area at all. (i don't even know how to strengthen the tongue muscles. any tips?)

"still didn't clearly state how one would determine which is the better "raw athlete." give us an example of how you would measure the "raw athleticism" of one athlete to compare with another..."

hey, if you don't want to answer the question, that's totally fine by me, man. nobody's forcing you to do anything here.

Ikaw na lang, if you can do either/or of 2 or more sports, will you choose the one that will pay you less?

now that you put it that way, i can do four sports, and i choose to focus on the one that i like most. even if it doesn't pay much (or at all).

    Daming away dito....

Simply put.. boxing and MMA have similar, although slightly different physical demands.

Muscles for boxing and muscles for MMA are also similar. A muscle is a muscle.

A stronger muscle is a muscle which has more potential to develop maximal power.

Merong use sa MMA ang ability to lift heavy (for the takedowns), useless yan sa boxers.

  11. Trimming down one has to lessen sweets and carbohydrates.

not really. in fact, i get most of my calories from carbohydrates.

the thing about carbohydrates is that certain types are best eaten at certain times of the day (depending on the composition).

    > fruits like apples and oranges, all kinds of vegetables, legumes, sweet potatoes, and oats are best eaten as breakfast, pre-workout, as they supply you with slow-digesting sugars to provide energy throughout the day. they also don't cause insulin spikes.

    > starchy carbohydrates like pasta, bread, rice, grains, potatoes, bananas are best eaten a few hours (at most) after a workout, as to take advantage of the increased insulin tolerance caused by physical activity.

    > sweets are best tolerated by the body during or immediately after a workout, when blood sugar levels are low. that explains why people drink sports drinks, and why most runners have an occasional sweet tooth.

  12. well...for me...running an hour a day works...

or do the treadmill at 5.0 incline and 5 mph speed in 30 minutes (i can do one hour)...so as long as you hit 70% of your max heart rate and ur good to go...

ang problem ko is yung "bursts" e which i need for playing basketball...walang problema sa constant speed and incline e...so question: meron bang exercise to improve your "bursts"?

interval sprints (for distance or time) (i.e. sprint 200m, rest 30 sec. repeat.)

wind sprints. (i.e. sprint 100m, jog back to starting point. repeat.)

  13. Of course there are no "useless" muscles (if read literally). Point is, boxer's do not want to develop muscles that are of no use to them in the boxing ring. Reason why they don't want body builder's frame. Arnold Schwarzenneger would be too slow, too heavy and too easy to hit. Even Erik Morales (easilly outweighed by 100lbs) can knock out Arnie.

kind of contradicting ourselves now, aren't we?

there are no "useless muscles." and we go back again to bulky guys like mike tyson, ricky hatton, etc...

you still didn't clearly state how one would determine which is the better "raw athlete." give us an example of how you would measure the "raw athleticism" of one athlete to compare with another. in your opinion, who is the better "raw athlete," Georges Saint-Pierre, or Bernard Hopkins? (both ones of the higherst rated in their field.)
  14. guys pls dont put down on sport just to prove that the other is better.

there was a time when a famous boxer named floyd mayweather jr. claimed that he could easily win in a MMA fight. Dana chuckled but challenged the boxer to fight any of his UFC boys. eventually, floyd apologizes and said he just kidding. he might have realized that boxing and mma are two very different sports.

and how about DAnA WHite blocking the proposed boxing fight of Anderson Silva and Roy Jones Jr? Dana might have also realized what mayweather thought, these are two diferent sports. A boxer will punish a MMA fighter in a boxing match, and a MMA fighter would cripple a boxer in a MMA fight.

who said anything about one being better? i like both.

And also the point that you don't want to carry around "useless" muscles (lalo na sa lower weight division, hence the difference between Mike Tyson and Erik Morales).

AS to the best "raw athletes", eto lang last point ko dun. Kids try different sports. Kobe, Lebron, etc., may now be exclusive to basketball, but I am almost certain that the when they were kids they also tried other sports. Allen Iverson, I know, could have played college football (QB). Danny Ainge was drafted to play in MLB. SO why choose basketball? Because it offers the most lucrative career. If you suddenly put a salary cap of 100K USD annual salary in the NBA, do you think Lebron and Kobe would stick with it? No. They can do OTHER sports. The best athletes will go to the sport that will pay them the most. Except for the Yao Mings (who were born to play basketball and nothing else), I don't see any of the current crop of NBA players staying in the league. Pet theory ko nga yan e, the reason why the US Olympic teams no longer dominate the sprints (since the NBA salary skyrocketted thanks to the Jordan era) . They're all doing something else (football or basketball). Latak na lang natitira sa Olympics.

so you are saying that baketball players (except for yao) play because of the money, like boxers do? i don't think there's been any study regarding the reasons why athletes play the game. i highly doubt that pacquiao (or any other highly rated boxer for that matter), who has been training exclusively in boxing for more than 11 years is going to suddenly shift to submission fighting even if it payed quadruple what he currently earns. and theoretically, pacquiao should be one of the best "raw athletes" out there. and (the original topic) you still didn't clearly state how one would determine which is the better "raw athlete." give us an example of how you would measure the "raw athleticism" of one athlete to compare with another. in your opinion, who is the better "raw athlete," Georges Saint-Pierre, or Bernard Hopkins? (both ones of the higherst rated in their field.)

and there are no "useless muscles," man. i'd like ask you again about your boxing and mma experience, if you don't mind.
