bods1000
Hi to all This thread is getting to be very active... Its good mental exercise for all of us...prevents those dreaded "senior moments" already common to our age group... I just remembered...whatever became of the MS UNIVERSE 1974 (we had the pageant in Folk Arts) beauties? Si Ms Spain...(whats her name?) si Aruba.. Si Finland?? ... HOTDOG band even made a song "Ikaw ang Ms.Universe na buhay ko".. And talking of bands.... for me the BEST ever is CIRCUS BAND !!! I remember seeing them play in RINO's in Roxas Blvd when I was 10 years old (I was the chaperone to my cousin)... I didnt know which overwhelmed me more ... the sizzling steak (uso yon noon) or the sizzle of rocker PABS DADIVAS or BASIL VALDEZ. Walang sinabi si BRITNEY sa attire ni TILLIE MORENO...and RICHARD TAN (Wala pang additinal "N" sa name niya, at hindi pa sila ni INNO noon ) was the coolest dude. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Miss Spain - Amparo Munoz (she appeared in soft-porn flicks afterwards, I think)Miss Aruba - Maureen Ava Vieira (got hitched to an Ysmael? dunno where she is now)Miss Finland - Johanna Raunio (appeared in several Pinoy flicks)Miss Wales - Helen Morgan (she had a face you could die for) di ba nandun din sa Circus sina Jacqui Magno, Hajji, Rey-an Fuente Those guys were cool..... Amparo Muñoz gave up her title to get married. She couldn't be replaced by Helen Morgan, because Helen Morgan won the Miss World pageant that same year. So in the 1975 Miss Universe pageant, no one took the traditional final walk on stage. I remember that clearly, because I was expecting to see Amparo Muñoz (I still have the pictures that I bought at some photo shop in Cubao). Wala. Helen Morgan was also hit by controversy. After she had already won the Miss World crown, it was learned that she was a single mother. I'm not quite sure if she was stripped of the title or not. sliderule
What about the slow song "EUROPA" of DEODATO ?? Wala bang may CD ng Deodato?? I remember G-Leng!! G-Leng !! as ARIEL URETA's line... Remember his show Ariel con Tina ??? He had this show na parang "For Men Only" - I forgot the name... were ELLEN ESGUERRA (Bold star) accidentaly showed her left boob (apparently ginaya ni Janet Jackson he! he!) when her strap fell that caused an uproar headed by the moralist POLLY CAYETANO ??? This is really a fun thread. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hello augustmoon Eureka...fellow Deodato fans! I thought I was the last! I don't seem to remember Europa by Deodato...perhaps you meant Europa (earth's Cry Heaven's Smile) by Santana? That long wailing solo guitar number...one my favorites! CDs by Deodato...if you look very well in Tower...you can find some, the albums I most often find are Prelude, Whirlwinds and Live with Airto (it's medyo a ripoff because the Super Strut cut is missing...they used to play that 16 times a day in DZRJ before). Hardest to finds are Deodato 2 and First Cuckoo. Ellen Esguerra...hahaah...what fond memories! Quote Link to comment

sliderule
welcome to the thread, pare! I have this live Deodato CD and at the end of the concert when Eumir was introducing each and every member of his band and where they came from, I got a jolt when he announced, "Gilmore Degap - from the Philippines!" Well, well...to have been a member of Deodatos's venerable ensemble was something, and he was Pinoy! But I don't seem to know him or his background or what became of him....... John Tropea was one hell of a guitarist - I remember him being one of the fastest guitarists I first heard - and this was in the heyday of Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck.. I don't know why Deodato decided to retire - or at least to stop recording....I loved his Love Island and his Also Sprach Zarathustra - the thunderous intro of all the instruments at the beginning of the song was quite something.....<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the welcome, I feel at home na here Gilmore Digap is pinoy?? I didn't know that! Honestly I was disappointed that Billy Cobham didn't come to Manila....but I think Digap was the drummer in 'Ave Maria' from Whirlwinds album. Tropea had 2 solo albums...can't remember the first but the 2nd was 'A Short Trip to Space'. I stumbled upon a Deodato MP3 in Makati Cinema Square...it has almost all his albums in it...quite a steal (steal talaga, bootleg eh) for a hundred bucks! Quote Link to comment
