sally bogna mathay
I haven't tuned in to RT for ages na. CT I think reformatted from jazz (read: Kenny G, Yanni  ) to what they call daw as r&b but it sucks still the same. Don't listen to it too. The only station my tuner is locked on too and which I listen to if I need a break from tapes and CD's is 105.1 - Crossover nga yata ito - kasi weekends lang ako madalas makinig - lumang jazz ang tugtog.Otherwise barren talaga ang radio landscape dito as far as our fave music is concerned. Been this way for years, as you very well know..<{POST_SNAPBACK}> sayang naman ang RT...CT had new age before if i remember, but kenny g and yanni?!...i don't think we should even consider that as jazz...pang mellow touch!...i have a cd here given by a friend years ago and just found it again kasi nalagay sa ibang case...it's a k-lite 103 selection -- seal, hootie and the blowfish, alanis, side a, phil collins, stone temple --pare, kahit ganito lang naman sana ang playlist, puwede nang pagtiyagaan, di ba? sally bogna mathay
RJ seems to be going on a downward spin. The old rock of manila format was a distinct setup that catered to those who really wanted their music in album format and NOT the single releases. Sayang talaga. Album Oriented Radio-- guess we'll never hear the likes of it again. Yeh.. I also can't remember the last time I switched to RT. That station also fell into some format confusion when Emilio Tuason let go of active management-- very different from the time when RT was big in the late 70's. Their DJs became too talkative and played less music. Same thing is happening now to NU107. Too much talk and not enough music. :goatee:<{POST_SNAPBACK}> the old RJ-FM format was just great...i mean, you could listen to santana one moment before the jock segued to, say, a cut from return to forever, and then pat metheney!...iba talaga...back in the early 80s, you could just tune to 100.3 or WWK 101.5, which was just next on the dial (where jazz has never sounded better as brother wayne, dodie lacuna, jing magsaysay and ed pixon would say)...i share the sentiments about the disapperance of album-oriented radio...i guess we'll just dream on and make our own selection...never really got the hang of listening regularly to NU 107...seems it's also going downhill, as you folks suggest... bods1000
Hello there mga katropa. Nice discusssion about rock. I'm not so familiar with classic rock because I seldom tune-in to RJFM. The stations we (our barkada) listened to in the 70s was 93EI, 99.5RT, 102Magic (live Wherelse music from 10pm-12mn), 101.9 and BM105 for jazz music. Incubus is my son's favorite as well as Linkin' Park, Eraser Heads, River Maya, South Border and Parokya ni Edgar When I'm online, I listen to my ITune radio stations such as Aural Moon, radioio70s, etc.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> pareho pare...yung youngest ko nagpabili na ng Linkin' Park when he was in the third grade tapos yung eldest ko ang huling pinabili yung greatest hits ng Metallica (now where is that tape? pakikinggan ko nga pala yun ). My eldest who is in third year high has learned to play guitar and naririnig ko sa room nya sinasabayan nya sa tape yung mga tugtog ng Parokya, E-heads, Yano...sana nga gumaling sya sa gitara dahil frustrated guitarist naman ako hehehe...when he graduates next year, nagpapabili nga ng electric...bahala na Quote Link to comment
bods1000
Pareng Bods: I think this is one of the signs. Last time I checked, there isn't even any particular stationed programmed on my receiver except 105.1. Can no longer appreciate what RT is playing these days and I can't say I'm familiar with any of the other stations. In my car, I just play cds. Whenever I have time, I just burn them myself so I can record my own selection. They just don't write songs the way they used to. I guess with the advent of rap (make no mistake, I like rap but I just can't be listening to it all the time), the art of song writing seems to have be taken a nosedive. Notice how it seems at least 30% of the songs they play nowadays are mere remakes. Even songs like the dreadfully overkilled "Because of You" has, what, 4 or 5 versions by 4 or 5 different artists. #$!$^&* wala na yata kasing sumusulat ng kanta ngayon! Maliban na lang sa mga novelty songs (think Otso-otso, etc.). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think every generation develops or adopts its own musical form. Ngayon nga rap na hindi naman natin masakyan. But if you will remember it was the 80's rockers Blondie who pioneered the form in their song RAPTURE tapos may mga lumabas na rap artists like Public Enemy who wrapped their rap songs around heavy rock guitars. Ang ayaw ko lang sa rap yung may mga samples ng old songs sa una tapos gagawin nilang rap. Like America's Ventura highway whose guitar intro was used by Janet Jackson dun sa rap song nya...marami pang iba eh..Even Sting you know had this duet I think with P. Diddy and they remade I think Roxanne into rap...ang sagwa ng lumabas I also noticed that thing about remakes - ang dami ngayon - parang wala nang creative juices yung mga songwriter ngayon... bods1000
for me, got nothing against these 'revival' stations as MAYBE the people in charge is also fed up with those 'nigga artists' claiming the airwaves without singing a single note. worse, bad, unintelligible lyrics make their pieces so forgettable. kaya nga natutuwa ako when pirates sell those cds, maybe sana malugi ang companies that produce these dang trash. kaya tuloy artists like charlotte church is given an 'overkill' hype since kokonti na lang talaga ang artists na kagaya nya.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> pards 70's na 70's yung quotation mo dyan sa ibaba ha - Steely Dan - marami sa atin dito ang favorite yan sana nga pero it's a long shot na malugi ang mga record outfits na ito dahil mahaba ang pisi ng mga ito. What we can hope for is that someday babaan nila ang presyo ng mga CD.. Quote Link to comment

Ayaw nila nung mga album-album oriented formats na ganyan Di ba you remember, DZRJ then had few commerials unlike the other radio stations dahil nga konti lang ang advertisers nila. Hindi kasi commercial yung music nila eh unlike the others who cater to more popular tastes. Quote Link to comment

storm
Jan sa Jazz, makakarelate na ko kasi iyan yung mga dinatnan kong records na iniwan ng pinsan ko, na mga nawala rin, kasi dinugas naman nung isang pinsan kong nalulong kung saan. Return to Forever album ni Chick Corea was a favorite. He also formed the fusion group with the same name. I like Les McCaan's and Ahmad Jamal's piano music. I could still remember Poinciana and Ghetto Child ni Ahmad Jamal. Nung 70s nauso yung mga electric sounds nina Eumir Deodato, Gino Vanelli and Chick Corea Parang biglang nabuhay sa isip ko yung high school days namin na halos maghapon pulos jazz ang pinatutugtog namin: from Latin/Brazilian nina Antonio Carlos Jobim, Astrud and Joao Gilberto, Airto Moreira and flora Purim, Herb alpert and Lanie Hall, Deodato, etc. to Ramsey Lewis and Earth Wind and Fire, Hubert and Ronnie Laws , the 'Herbies' (Mann and Hancock), etc. Quote Link to comment
storm
Ooops nalimutan ko si Sergio Mendez from 66 to 77. Quote Link to comment

storm
Pareng Sally, doesn't it make you feel like trying to save the sunlight? Napakanta akong bigla. Ang madalas naming gamiting song ni Lanie Hall sa mga typar ay yung Hello It's Me. In addition nung high school, favorite din namin si Chuck Mangione with Esther Satterfield. At tsaka MFSB nga pala. Pwede pang isayaw. Nung late 70s naman sa college ay nauso sa min ang Caldera, Manhattan Transfer (Birdland, Twilight Zone, Shaker Song - na lagi naming nirerequest kay Vernie Varga), John Klemmer, Noel Pointer, Hiroshima, Tadao Hayashi (Wave), Willie Bobo (Dindi), Sea Wind with Pauline Wilson, David Benoit, The Crusaders with Randy Crawford, etc. Quote Link to comment

storm
Lullaby for Baby Alphonse I like Deodato's take on Rhapsody in Blue, Moonlight Serenade, Baubles, Bangles and Beads, Also Sprach Zarathurstra, etc. We even danced to Do it Again. Aside from Super Strut, meron pang Havana Strut. When I was in high school, I bought 2 Deodato LPs-- Deodato2 and First Cuckoo with Adam's Hotel and Caravan which I think is a disco tune with double bass drum, the rest I just taped in open reel.
