unprettywoman
actually, we had divorce here in the Philippines...but that was a long time ago... Historically, absolute divorce was allowed here in the Philippines by virtue of Act 2710 on March 11, 1917 but only on two grounds : adultery on the part of the wife and concubinage on the part of the husband. During the Japanese occupation, a new law on absolute divorce (Executive Order 141) was promulgated providing for 10 grounds for divorce. this law was effective until October 23, 1944, when Gen. Douglas MacArthur reestablished the Commonwealth Government by proclamation which in effect repealed EO 141 and revived Act 2710. Act 2710 was repealed by the Civil Code of the Philippines which allows only legal separation. The draft of the Code, however, had provisions on absolute divorce, but during the discussions of the Code in Congress and with the strong opposition from the Catholic population of the country, absolute divorce was eliminated and substituted with legal separation. - taken from Handbook on The Family Code of the Philippinesby Retired Associate Justice Alicia Sempio-Diy Quote Link to comment
Angel.Jae
correct me if im wrong: "if you had an annulment, you cannot marry your new wife in any church (civil marriage only), since in annulment, you are just separated by the law and not by the church." Quote Link to comment

freelicker
I've got another question, although not necessarily a legal one but related. Do you guys know any CPA-Lawyers who would like to work in an auditing firm? Our office is looking for one, particularly one who would like to work as a tax and corpo consultant for multinational clients. Preferably female. Anyone interested? Quote Link to comment
jeckyl
Thanks. Actually, I had secured a certification from the law school I was teaching in and will attach the same to the letter. How long would it take for them to respond kaya or do I have to go there personally na lang to facilitate the process? Ten year of continuous teaching in law school is required to be exempted from MCLE. A friend of mine had cumulative teaching experience of more than ten year but took a leave for a year had to to take MCLE in full. Quote Link to comment
freelicker
Actually, it is no longer exemption that I am after, merely the crediting of my teaching units to the MCLE. I sent our messenger today to check out how I could credit the units I had for teaching in a law school. But I know I will have to take up some more units to complete my MCLE. Thanks anyway.
