When the WWE Raw & Smackdown wrestlers went here, ringside seats cost a little over 10k

considering that WWE had most of its superstars on hand, and this card only has 3 recognizable names in there, I'd say it was a bit pricey.

I really don't see how they can fill up araneta with this card.

my god, more bad news... it's not within the confines of the UFC, but it's still bad news for MMA as a whole..

MMA Fighter Vasquez In Critical Condition After KO Loss

After suffering a knockout loss in an MMA bout at two minutes, 50 seconds of the second round of a recent match against Vince Libardi, fighter Sammy Vasquez is in critical condition.

The following are some updates from Sammy's wife Sandra, posted on the TXMMA.com internet forum:

Good morning,

Sammy really needs your prayers. He is stable, but in very critical condition. As of today, he has been heavily sedated. They do not want him to have any activity, no movement of any kind. It seems his brain is swelling. They are monitoring him very closely. He is on the respirator and he’s keeping his blood pressure at a good range on his own. They have asked that we keep visitors to family only. The doctor said we need to pray for him. Please pray for Sammy and the family. I thank you for your prayers, love and support.

God Bless,

Sandra

And an updated post:

This is very difficult for me to write. Sammy had a massive stroke on Friday, the damage is very great. We have contacted LifeGift. Please keep us in your prayers.

St. Joseph Hospital the Pavilion

4th floor room 2

Love,

Sandra Vasquez

=================================

^^ for some reason, even though Sandra Vasquez's words meant that Sammy Vasquez won't make it, i'm still rooting for him to at least make it out alive. this is the worst thing that has ever happened to the sport, & i'm still hoping against all hope that Sandra is jumping the gun by calling an organ donor center on behalf of his husband.

Sammy Vasquez just kicked the bucket

UFC 81: Randy Couture turns down title defense against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture will not fight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 81: “Breaking Point” on February 2, according to MMAWeekly.com.

“The Natural” unexpectedly handed in his resignation via fax on October 11, 2007, for two reasons: The UFC could not land free agent superstar Fedor Emelianenko (the Russian signed with M-1 Global) and Couture felt that his compensation was not adequate compared to other top draws within the organization.

We’re not going to rehash the back-and-forth shenanigans that have transpired over the course of the last two months — it’s literally taken on a life of its own. From dueling press conferences to missed meetings to puppies, we’ve covered the entire saga right here.

For now it’s just good to get some clarity on the situation even if it comes at the expense (seeming retirement) of one of the best fighters and ambassadors the sport of mixed martial arts has ever witnessed. And, it appears that Couture and the UFC were able to “mend fences” at the end of the day.

Here’s a snip from “Captain America:”

“We’ve cleared the air, and hopefully we’ll move forward with some sort of relationship. I’ve got a lot of fighters and a lot of things that hinge around mixed martial arts and the UFC as well. I want to continue to work with them and I think that they want to continue to work with me, so we’ll figure out how that happens.”

The tenor of this article more or less indicates that Couture has made the decision to maintain on the sidelines (again … he first retired in 2005) and concentrate on the business side of things, which includes a successful nationwide MMA training enterprise, X-Treme Couture. He’s also been busy with acting and other ventures outside the Octagon.

However, he claims that he still wants Fedor … even though it will probably never happen.

Here’s another snip from Couture:

“Obviously I have a contractual obligation with the UFC. There’s been some haggling and things going on with all that, and Fedor signing with M-1 made the possibility of that fight very difficult because of that and because of those contracts.”

While Couture takes time to “smell the roses,” his decision to forfeit the heavyweight belt means that former champion Tim Sylvia and number one contender Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will likely clash to claim the vacant division strap (unless the UFC can make a decision regarding Andrei Arlovski). That showdown will more than likely headline UFC 81.

that's oscar dela hoya's golden boy productions and bob arum's top rank boxing.....

tama ka pero malabo mangyari yan......kasi both hold exclusive contracts and syempre iisipin ni dana white na if they cooperated siya ang mag hihila sa m1 ng pataas kaya he should get a bigger share and m1 would think na mas bigger draw si fedor kaya dapat bigger share sila

the only reason nag cooperate sila dela hoya is because nanghihinayang sila pareho kung walang laban

i saw heath herring's picture on the newspaper posing with the platinum fighters......is he also on the line up???

kimo's team is the alternate team but herring's name was not listed under kimo's team

kawawa naman si herring....one of the top draws sa pride yan noon....sablay agad sa ufc....buti pa si crocop daming chances kahit talunan

Nakabili na ako ng ticket to Ring of Fire! Pero Gen admission lang. Kwento ko na lang kung ano mangyayari.

I think malabo magkaroon ng Fedor fight with any fighter na nakatali sa UFC. Kasi pag natalo yan, alam ni Dana na hihina ang stock/credibility ng fighters / champions niya. Kaya ginagawa niya, exclusive lahat. No cross promotion. Sayang!

Ang pinaka posibleng mangyari is Fedor Barnett na okay pa rin naman.

Andun ako sunday. Got the general admission ticket but since the attendance was just about 40-50% of capacity, they upgraded us to Upper A (?) Medyo magulo pa yung event; lots of confusion sa order ng event but all in all enjoy naman.

Good fights din! Got to see MMA personalities live!

Evan Dunham (Team Shamrock) d. Cleber Lu-ciano (Team Gracie) by RNC

Kya-cey Uscola (Team Shamrock) d. Jorge Patino (Team Gracie) by judges decision

Mike Whitehead (Team Shamrock) d. Daniel Serafian (Team Gracie) by judges decision

Ricco Rodriguez (Team Shamrock) d. John Marsch (Team Gracie) by judges decision

Tonya Evinger (Team Shamrock) vs. Kathrine Andal (Team Gracie) armbar ata, forgot, basta sub. Best fight of the night ito!

Action-packed, relentless pace. Parang Guida vs. Huerta, with Karo-style judo throws!

Koji Oishi (Team Barnett) d. Karen Darabdeyan (Team Gokor) judges decision

Yuki Kondo (Team Barnett) d. August Wallen (Team Gokor) judges decision

Renato Sobral (Team Barnett) d. Rodney Faverus (Team Gokor) by sub

Jeff Monson (Team Barnett) d. Hakim Gouram (Team Gokor) judges decision

Pag may mali pa correct na lang. May 2 pinoy din lumaban Badong domasian vs. Team Quest Zach Light and Lino Tagacay vs. Justin Cruz representing a Guam MMA team. Both Pinoys lost though, si Domasian via armbar and Tagacay via RNC ata, lumabasa lang ako saglit natalo na eh.

Good event, sayang it wasn't really promoted well. Nung mga ilang days na lang before the event. Sana makapag hold pa sila ng events in the future.
