Dusit Thani Manila (Makati): Thai 5-Star & Recently Renovated

Five hundred rooms designed in Thai aesthetic vocabulary, sixteen floors at the corner of Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue, and a property enhancement program that has refreshed one of Makati's longest-tenured five-stars. Dusit Thani is the Bangkok luxury brand's Manila standard-bearer — and the most accessible entry point into the Dusit hospitality lineage in the Philippines.

The Bangkok Brand in Makati

The Dusit Thani brand was founded in Bangkok in 1970 by Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui — and has, in the half-century since, become one of the most-recognized luxury Asian hospitality brands. The signature Dusit hospitality vocabulary — the wai greeting at arrival, the Thai-inflected design language, the layered Asian service standard — runs across the brand's properties in Bangkok, Pattaya, Krabi, the Maldives, and beyond.

Dusit Thani Manila has, since opening, been the brand's Philippine standard-bearer — a property where the Thai hospitality codes meet Filipino warmth at the intersection of Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue, in the heart of the Makati Central Business District.

The Building

The hotel occupies a 16-floor tower designed in the contemporary luxury vocabulary, with the architectural language emphasizing Thai-inflected design — the layered interior spaces, the use of warm wood tones, the design touches that reference the Bangkok aesthetic. Large windows on the upper floors frame views of the Makati skyline.

The hotel sits among the older generation of Makati luxury hotels (predating the Raffles-Fairmont complex and the newer Grand Hyatt and Shangri-La The Fort additions) and has, through multiple renovation cycles, kept the property current.

The Accommodations

Dusit Thani Manila operates at significant scale — 500 rooms and suites distributed across the property's floors. Categories include:

  • Deluxe Rooms — entry-tier, with the Thai-inflected room design
  • Premier Rooms — upgraded floor positions
  • Club Floor Rooms — Club Floor access (private lounge, refreshments, breakfast, cocktails)
  • Suites — including the Specialty Suites and the Presidential Suite

The room design vocabulary emphasizes Thai-inspired aesthetic elements: silk textile accents, layered wood and stone, the Dusit brand's signature warm color palette, large windows for the Makati skyline.

Property Enhancement

The hotel is currently undergoing a property enhancement program — newly renovated guest rooms have rolled out across the property, refreshing the accommodations to current Dusit luxury standards. This is part of the property's continued investment in its Makati position.

For affluent guests, the newly renovated rooms deliver the contemporary Dusit luxury experience; the older non-renovated rooms still operate at the brand's standard but the renovation tier is the booking to request.

The Five Restaurants

Dusit Thani Manila operates five restaurants spanning Asian and Western cuisines:

  • Benjarong — the signature Thai fine dining, named after the traditional Thai porcelain. This is the property's most-recognized restaurant and one of the most-celebrated Thai dining rooms in Manila
  • Umu — the Japanese fine dining
  • Tosca — the Italian fine dining
  • The Pantry — the all-day international buffet, with Western, Asian, and Filipino regional stations
  • Lobby Lounge — the cocktail and afternoon-tea program

Benjarong is the dining anchor. The kitchen's Thai program — with chefs trained in the brand's Bangkok culinary heritage — is the most-cited Thai fine-dining experience in the city. For affluent guests, the Benjarong tasting menu is the booking to make.

The Service Code

Dusit's service is calibrated to the brand's Thai hospitality vocabulary — the warm welcome, the layered attentiveness, the anticipatory service register that the Bangkok properties have refined over five decades. Combined with the Filipino warmth of the staff, the Manila property delivers a hospitality experience distinct from the European-influenced (Peninsula, Mandarin) or American-influenced (Marriott, Hilton) Manila luxury alternatives.

For affluent guests loyal to the Dusit's Gold Loyalty program, the Manila property is the brand's only Philippine option and one of the more accessible Dusit luxury experiences in Southeast Asia.

The Pool, Spa, and Fitness

Dusit Thani Manila operates an outdoor pool, fitness center, and the spa facility — all calibrated to the brand's luxury standard. The pool is one of the longer-tenured Makati hotel pools.

When to Stay

Dusit Thani operates year-round with the standard Makati five-star occupancy pattern. Holy Week, Christmas-New Year, and the Chinese New Year are at peak. For affluent business travelers, weekday rates are competitive against the peer Makati five-stars.

For the Benjarong Thai dining experience, the dinner reservation is the standard booking — the restaurant operates separately from the hotel's accommodation pricing.
