Shangri-La The Fort Manila (BGC): BGC Anchor 5-Star

247 meters tall. 576 rooms across a mixed-use complex that includes Kerry Sports Manila and the Shangri-La Residences. The hotel that, on opening day in March 2016, declared Bonifacio Global City complete — and reset Manila's center of luxury gravity from Makati eastward.

The Hotel That Crowned BGC

When Bonifacio Global City broke ground in the early 2000s, the master plan was clear: it would replace Makati as Metro Manila's principal business district. By the mid-2010s, the office towers were in place; the residential population had grown; the retail strips had landed. What BGC was still missing — until 2016 — was its flagship luxury hotel.

Shangri-La at The Fort, Manila opened on March 1, 2016, and answered that question definitively. At 247 meters tall (one of the tallest skyscrapers in the Philippines), with 576 rooms and suites, the property is both physically dominant and operationally calibrated to anchor a competitive five-star market.

For Shangri-La, this was the brand's second Manila property (alongside Edsa Shangri-La, 1992). For BGC, this was the credential that completed the district's claim on Manila's premium hospitality market.

The Tower

The building is one of the most dramatic in BGC's skyline. At 247 meters across 60 floors, the tower combines:

  • The hotel (lower floors, including the lobby on the ground level and the dining floors)
  • The Kerry Sports Manila sports and leisure facility (one of the property's most-celebrated features)
  • Event venues and ballrooms
  • Retail
  • The Shangri-La Residences The Fort, Manila (luxury residential condominiums)
  • Horizon Homes (the premium residential tier)

The mixed-use structure produces a building where the hotel guest and the residential resident share the same vertical infrastructure but operate in entirely separate functional flows. The hotel's elevators, lobby, and amenity spaces are calibrated to the transient guest; the residential elevators, lobby, and concierge are calibrated to the permanent resident.

The 576 Rooms

Each room is at least 45 square meters (480 square feet) — generous by Manila luxury hotel standards, calibrated for the international business traveler segment that drives the property's weekday occupancy.

The room categories include:

  • Deluxe Rooms — entry-tier, with the property's signature city or pool views
  • Premier Rooms — upgraded floor positions, the most-requested mid-tier
  • Club Rooms — Horizon Club access (private lounge, all-day refreshments, breakfast, cocktails)
  • Suites — including the Specialty Suites and the Presidential Suite

The Horizon Club access is the booking that affluent business travelers learn to make from the start. The lounge runs across the property's club-floor levels with skyline views.

Kerry Sports Manila

The most distinctive amenity is Kerry Sports Manila — the property's sports and leisure facility, which is substantially more than a hotel gym. The facility includes:

  • Indoor courts for basketball, tennis, and squash
  • Lap pool
  • Gymnasium
  • Exercise studio
  • Spa facility

For affluent guests staying for multiple nights, the Kerry Sports Manila facility is genuinely usable — the basketball and tennis courts can accommodate competitive play, and the lap pool is dimensioned for serious swimming. This is rare. Most Manila luxury hotel "fitness centers" are calibrated for the spa-adjacent gym booking; Kerry Sports Manila is calibrated for the multi-sport athlete.

The Dining

Shangri-La The Fort runs one of the more comprehensive dining programs in BGC:

  • Canton Road — the Cantonese fine dining, named after the Hong Kong street where Peninsula Hong Kong sits (a deliberate hospitality reference)
  • Be — the all-day international buffet, one of the largest hotel buffets in BGC
  • Raging Bull Chophouse & Bar — the steakhouse, with a separate adjacent retail-strip entrance for non-hotel guests
  • Raging Bull Burgers — the casual sister concept
  • High Street Lounge — the lobby cocktail program

The Raging Bull brand is one of the property's signature dining programs, with the steakhouse drawing affluent guests from across Metro Manila who are not necessarily staying at the hotel.

The Service Code

Shangri-La's service is calibrated to the international five-star Asian luxury standard — the precise, polished, anticipatory service that the brand has built across Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, and Bangkok properties. The Manila property delivers that standard with the additional warmth of Filipino hospitality.

For affluent business travelers loyal to the Shangri-La Golden Circle program, the property is the premier Manila Golden Circle booking.

The BGC Geography

The hotel sits at the heart of Bonifacio Global City — walking distance from:

  • Bonifacio High Street — the open-air retail and dining promenade
  • SM Aura Premier — the BGC luxury mall
  • The BGC office tower cluster — the affluent business district
  • The Mind Museum, BGC Arts Center — the cultural anchors

This geography means the hotel's guests can spend an entire stay without needing to leave BGC's curated environment — a structural advantage for affluent guests who prefer the BGC density over the Makati or Bay Area alternatives.

When to Stay

Shangri-La The Fort operates year-round. Holy Week, Christmas–New Year, and Chinese New Year are at full capacity. The weekday business booking pattern dominates throughout the year, which means weekend rates can be more competitive.

For affluent staycations, the weekend Club Floor booking with Kerry Sports Manila access is the highest-value experience.

Getting There

  • BGC Center — walking distance to High Street, SM Aura, the BGC office cluster
  • NAIA → 20–35 minutes via Skyway
  • Makati → 10–15 minutes via Kalayaan or McKinley Hill
  • Ortigas → 20–30 minutes via C-5 or EDSA
