The best starting five in the East:

SF-Tatum

PF-Hayward

C-Horford

SG-Brown

PG-Irving

Bench with an Attitude:

SF-Ojeleye

PF-Morris

C-Baynes

SG-Smart

PG-Rozier

In terms of offense, the starting five is way better than the bench but the bench is better in defense. Rozier and Morris were starters in the playoffs. Even Baynes at time and this depended on the match-ups. If the talent level of the starting five is 10, the bench is an 8. Rozier and Morris are the go-to guys off the bench and both are sure starters on other mid-tier teams, in my opinion which makes the bench solid. The dip in talent is not significant between the starters so if Brad decides to use the bench exclusively, they can hold the fort against an elite team like the Ws for a certain amount of time until the starters get their rest. I am not even threatened by the much-hyped Raptors. Yes, Kawhi is good but so is Kyrie, Jaylen, Jayson, Gordon and Al. Get ready because the Cs are gonna own the East.

This feels like the start of a monster run for the Celtics.

I second the motion. If you see the line up of Hayward, Tatum, Horford, Brown and Irving, you will surmise that it is an offensive juggernaut because the spacing will be wide considering all of them are threats from beyond the arc. Also, all of them can create shots on their own. On defense, all of them can switch, except maybe Kyrie but Brad has a way of planning a good synergy in team defense which the players execute to perfection.

A starting line-up of Irving, Hayward, Horford, Tatum and Brown with Rozier coming of the bench. I'm feeling pretty damn good right now.

Rozier, Smart, Morris, Ojeleye and Baynes. With the exception of Ojeleye, the other four started at one time or another last season. The bench is deep. So deep.

They perhaps have the deepest bench in the league right now. The Celtics were one of the most entertaining teams last season. First game will be on Oct. 16 ,8 pm E.T. against the 76ers. Can't wait for the season to start.

Other teams have gotten stronger too, Philadelphia in particular. I've been a Boston fan for as long as I can remember but I really think the sixers will give them a hard time.

The more reason to be excited in the upcoming season. Lopsided games sucks the fun in watching the NBA.

Which Fab Five is this?

Horford, Tatum, Hayward, Brown and Irving

Now if you wanna know the original Fab Five:

Webber, Howard, King, Rose and Jackson (Michigan Wolverines, circa '91)

I am not saying that the C's Fab Five plays like the Michigan Fab Five. I am saying this in the context of star power and how well they are individually. As a team, they are undoubtedly deadly, perhaps the only team who can kick the asses of the Ws. I mean you saw it last year. No Kyrie and no Gordon, yet, it took off nights from Brown and Rozier to catapult Lechoke and his Cavs to the NBA Finals. This year, the gun will be fully loaded.

^^ Thanks for clarifying. Well, yeah, in terms of hype, those 2 five-man teams may be comparable. But in terms of individual talent, you're selling the Celtics' 5 short. Ray Jackson and Jimmy King were more role players and complemented the true stars - Webber, Rose and Howard. Jackson was there for defense, and was not even a regular starter until the latter part of the 91-92 season; while King was the 3-pt specialist. The C's projected starting 5, as you've mentioned, are more versatile and each can create their own offense.

For the sake of the Celtics' fans here, let's hope this Celtics team doesn't meet the same fate as the Michigan Fab Five in the NCAA championships - blasted by Duke in their 1st year, then the following year losing to UNC in the infamous Chris Webber illegal timeout game.

A bit of trivia - Rob Pelinka, former agent of Kobe Bryant and current Lakers' GM, is a teammate of the Fab Five at Michigan. :)

I think the Cs and the Ws slug it out in the Finals and I am picking the Cs to dethrone the Ws. I can't say if they were really role players because I didn't really watch their games since I have been a Duke fan eversince. They were a hyped up team. Like I said, I am not comparing the Cs five to the Michigan five strictly speaking but I in terms of star power and individual talent. Yes, maybe Jackson and King were not NBA-level players but they were good enough in college to be part of a hyped unit which made it to two straight NCAA Finals.

Just because King made the NBA doesn't mean he is an NBA-level player. I am talking here of an NBA rotation player and not a bench warmer.

^^To me, the current Celtics is still an unproven team. True, they have loads of talent, a deep bench, and a masterful coach - but they, especially the starting unit, have not played together for significant amounts of minutes. I'm also interested in how Rozier and Brown, after playing big roles in last year's playoffs, adjust or react to having their minutes and usage scaled back with the return of Hayward and Kyrie. I'm also not willing to discount this early the Sixers and Raptors. The Sixers added a year of experience while Kawhi (health permitting) will be on a mission with the Raptors.

But anyway, based on your Finals prediction, in some roundabout way, maybe your comparison of the Celtics to the Fab Five may hold water after all. The Celtics (like the Fab Five) will be the first-timers going up against the veteran, champion Warriors (like Duke). :) Let's see if the outcome will be the same.
