sorry for the late reply. hmmm, first of all, i know of too many people who have horror stories about taurus pistols. my uncle had the slide crack on a brand new taurus while he was in the range. another friend had a chamber malfunction, and had shards of the shell hit him in the face. taurus makes good revolvers, though, just dont trust the pistols.

tnx sa reply sir

nu po ma recommend nyo with that budget

sir adikted, 3 brands come to mind sa budget mo; Bersa pistols, Norinco, and Armscor/tanfoglio. most calibers and sizes ng Bersa come in below the 29k budget of yours. same is true for norinco. Armscor has 2 whole lines of 1911 pistols below that same budget, as is their 9mm polymer pistols. why naka slash yung Tanfoglio is they are distributed by Armscor, and share the same parts, and prices as the Armscor APP line. Norinco makes good guns rin, and if you could find parts, they are easily upgraded. finally, their are two new upstart locals, Firestorm and SAM, that are trying to make a niche themselves. don't know of the quality of Firestorm, but SAM used to have good pistols.

finally, would suggest buying the firearm from the local distributors, and not just from the gun stores.Bersa is brought in by PB Dionisio. Norinco, by TrustTrade (same guys who bring in Taurus). Tanfoglio and Armscor is marketed by Squires&Bingham. you could get the guns there slightly cheaper.... ;)

Any suggestions/feedbacks about the Sig Sauer P228 or P229? Right now my piece is an old Cz75.

recently been involved in another online forum, www.m4carbine.net, when the topic of a good first handgun came up and many of the contributors and members agree that it is a very good gun, both the 228 and 229. personally haven't shot one, but the SIGs i have shot, 220 and 226, proved to be very good, although the 45s they make, including the 220 in 45, tend to shoot low.

Gun amnesty application opens Aug. 1

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police Tuesday said it will start accepting applications for gun licenses under a new firearms amnesty program on Aug. 1.

The amnesty program, approved by Malacañang earlier this month, aims to reduce gun-related violence in next year’s presidential election.

Police estimate there are roughly 1.1 million unregistered firearms around the country.

At the launch of its national secretariat for the Firearms Control Program Tuesday, police officials said the amnesty is also aimed at encouraging legitimate gun owners to register their unlicensed firearms or renew licenses for those with expired permits.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Executive Order 817, dated July 7, grants a “final general firearms amnesty” from Oct. 1 to 31.

“All loose firearms holders, be they with expired licenses or unregistered firearms, shall be encouraged and be given an opportunity to obtain the required firearms licenses,” the President said in the order.

Although the final amnesty will be in October, police officials said they will open the processing phase this Saturday.

The National Firearms and Explosives Division, regional police offices, provincial commands and police stations are all authorized to accept and process unregistered guns.

PNP’s Civil Security Group (CSG) also announced a unique recycling program that will beat swords into plowshares, so to speak.

Rusty, unusable handguns will be turned into garden hoes, rakes and scythes, said CSG Chief Supt. Ireno Bacolod.

“All confiscated or surrendered firearms, if they can still be used by the military or PNP, will be used. All the others will be destroyed, then will undergo smelting and molding to turn them into farm implements,” Bacolod told the Inquirer.

“The farm implements will be given to rebel returnees,” said Bacolod.

This program was earlier tried in the Visayas, said Bacolod, where several old firearms were surrendered by rebels who returned to the government fold.

“If we are going to (recycle) in bulk, we will enter into an agreement with [a smelting plant that could remold the metal components]... It’s really a great program,” he said.

would suggest you get a Bersa...actually, would STRONGLY suggest you get a Bersa. Taurus pistols have a nasty habit of "malfunctioning". My uncle had a slide crack on a millenium after only 10 rounds. and a friend had burns on his face when his taurus suffered a catastrophic back-blast. i kid you not, i was there. you could post in many gun threads and you would hear the same answer...STAY AWAY FROM TAURUS PISTOLS!!!.

with that said, i must also state that they do, however, make good revolvers......
