Barangay Ginebra Kings

last night's game showcased the sloppiest defense i ever saw..

obviously it was James Yap who was killing them, pero ang defense Zone pa din???

umasa na lang sa 2nd half come back palagi... nakakabadtrip kang mag-coach eh (to Ato)...

all through out the series kung sino yung gumagawa sa Ginebra inilalabas mo... like yung

that was to avoid allowing GInebra to build momentum through that dunk..

very well said kaibigan. i just could not fathom how agustin failed to make the necessary adjustments in such a crucial game specially on defense. yap was hot...nothing was done. sinabayan lang ni caguioa. when simon waxed hot, walang nagawa si jj...wala pa din adjustment. sad to say, forrester, with his built and athleticism, would have been one guy who could have stopped yap or even simon. but that's water under the drain. hintay na lang tayo ng pagpalit ng coach...ayan eh kung makikinig ang management sa sigaw ng barangay...JA-WORS-KI...JA-WORS-KI...JA-WORS-KI!!!

Ato can't just make in-game adjustments. Let's face it. Ato is not in the level of a Tim Cone, Chot Reyes, Yeng Guiao or Sonny Jaworski.

Ato can make adjustments if he wants to. nobody is prohibiting him from making such. can't and doesn't know are two different terminologies. problem is, in the case of ato he just doesn't know how to adjust in crucial moments of a ballgame. typical example was the inbound play of baracael in game 1. di na nga umubra yung unang play inulit pa. alfrancis was already suggesting to change the play...well the rest is history.

Sayang lang yung pinaghirapan ng Ginebra to earned 1st place in the standings...It's all about the coach's decision for the plays ng mga players...wala lang talaga silang magawa to break their formation ng coach....mas maganda parin sa Ginebra yung strict coach like Jaworski...mas may passion sa laro.

Die-hard San Mig Coffee Mixers here.

To Gin Kings fans, thank you for a wonderful series. I'm not a hypocrite though - I'm happy na hindi close ang laban. I will be rooting for Ginebra against RoS kung tinalo nila ang SMCM. Thank God that won't be necessary.

Here are things that I noticed while watching the games and why I agree with fans who are calling for Coach Ato's head:

1. No adjustments were made in the first quarter when Reavis was doing a lot of damage through back door plays.

2. After the big lead in the first quarter was tied by the Gins, Tim Cone called a time out. The result was another 8-0 run by the Mixers. I was waiting for the buzzer to sound a ceasefire from Ginebra. Nothing. Then the lead went up to 10, then 12, then...

3. The offense was very predictable. First, pick-and-roll. If it doesn't work, stuff the ball to the low post to Aguilar or Slaughter and then hope that they score. If that doesn't work, isolation. If that doesn't work, rinse and then repeat.

4. James Yap was hot. Obvious naman di ba? Bakit walang adjustment sa defensive assignments?

Just my two cents' worth. Goodluck to your team in the future. Much respect.

well said. nice analysis no bias at all. more power!

I'd go as far as saying that with this line-up with Jawo as coach, Ginebra will win the championship. In Game 1, Ato should have used the go-to last-second play of Jawo, which is the stock formation where four players are lined up at the free throw line. The purpose, of course, is that players could screen for each other and any one can receive the ball.

exactly...the same formation that freed up rudy distrito for that historic shot that beat shell for the championship...ginebra coming back from a 1-3 deficit. yun ang diskarte ng magaling na coach.

We all know that its easy to say "JAWO should coach Ginebra" but there are many things to consider. Does JAWO really wants to coach the team? That we don't know, because if he's interested it will happen. There's a dispute between JAWO and the management when the management put Caidic as Asst coach of Ginebra. Which also bring to his resignation as a coach and player. I would very much favor JAWO than anybody else. IG not JAWO, just replace ATO with anybody that has a tactical skills and we will go places. Talent is already with Ginebra, strategy lacks.

Well, as a proverbial light at the end of a mothereffin' dark tunnel - management (Manager Al) is pushing for VMACK to be their import this conference. Since he's only measured at 6'8, he qualifies.

Retraction.

VMack is currently playing in Dubai.

Leon Rodgers would be the teams import, as per agent Sheryl Reyes.

3 point specialist, listed at 6'7". Played for the Memphis Grizzlies.

well there was indeed a falling-out between jawo and management before...but that was years ago. these are true gentlemen. maybe the parties involved can just put that issue aside for the sake of the fans. besides, assuming that the big j still has a grudge against the ginebra management, he probably would not have showed up in game 6 and gave an inspirational talk to the players. we all know he loves ginebra...and we all know what happened after that...para silang nasaniban ng dugong jaworski. pido would've been a nice replacement for ato pero naunahan na tayo ng global port.

Big J and SMC's dispute is now water under the bridge. He already acknowledges SMC when he mentioned them during his number retirement ceremonies. SMC bigshots were present. nagpasaring pa sya na "andito lang ako sa tabi tabi" when asked about the possibility of coaching Ginebra once again.

Right now, i believe it will be a welcome event if gsm decides to change its coach but i believe if they decide to stay with ato it might still be good for the team.... Chemistry and a new system will not be a problem... And the whole team might had gained wisdom and experience from the san mig series....

i'm sorry ka-baranggay but i have to disagree. i believe chemistry will not be enough for the team. yes, you'll get chemistry but if Ato will always be out-coached by the likes of Cone, Guiao or even by Jarencio, wala din... I hope I could be proven wrong though

very well said. for me the coach is the captain of the shop and if the coach does not know how to steer the ship specially in times of trouble it will sink. i was just wondering...if ato was coaching RoS last night, would the result be the same...a crisp and perfectly executed play? i just can't help but to compare that play of yeng to the inbound play drawn out by ato in game 1 of the semis. yeng only had 1.6 seconds...yung kay ato ang dami pang oras...ipapasa lang. Haaaay naku...
