nino1481
I'm a 22 year old guy and I am starting with my new Edge Card, any suggestions on this Card? anyone can lighten me up so I can use this one without any hesitations. :goatee: This is my first card. Please advise especially on Payment methods and other matters to put in mind. Generally, I'm currently using this card for Fitness First payments palang. I still got a lot of hesitations kasi hindi ko pa masyadong alam ang playing grounds ng may credit card. Guys, if ever I try to spend let say around 30k of car accessories, do I have to pay it on the same month kagad? How is the ball going to bounce? Please I need your advise before I start indulging on such plastic charge k nila ng interest pag nde full amount ang babayaran mo. khit 100 ang tinira mo may charge pa rin yun. This thread really educated my ass up. You guys are all experts when it comes to this matter. Buti na lang I never took the offer from Standard Chartered, my friend recommended me that bank, sabi maganda daw. How can that be possible. ^^don't purchase anything you can't pay for in full. You will get screwed by the interest 3.5% per MONTH yan 42% a year! Discipline ang kailangna pag may creditcard or mababaon ka sa utang.... tama. masarap lng pumirma ng pumirma. pagdating ng bill yari na! hehehehe payo ko sa new credit card holders is to think of the card as a more secure way of paying for the same things you would in cash. if you want to buy a tv that costs say 10K and you dont like the idea of carrying 20 ninoy-bills in your shallow pockets while riding the MRT, then the card is perfect. Then when it is time to pay you can use your atm bill payment facility to transfer cash from your savings/payroll to pay it off. Fine, there are extra steps pero safe ka pa rin from mandurukot (or say katangahan if you leave your wallet somewhere). For appliances and a lot of stuff the card also gives you access to paying via installment. Just be sure na for the 6-12 months you are really ready to carve out a piece of your paycheck for the i-pod, cellphone, etc. You have to be confident enough about your work for example that you believe you will still have a job over that period. so in short.. use the card for its convenience as a cash-substitute (cash you actually have) and not as a short term loan (with no collateral) because that is what will get you in trouble. wag na wag gagamitin ang card na pampahaba lang ng pisi.. kasi parang rubber band yan. hila ka ng hila, pag naputol malakas ang balik. always check yung mga installment packages nila. mas maganda kung 0% interest. suggestion ko is use your card wisely. for emergency lng sya. masarap pumirma ng pumirma. pag dating ng bill masakit n sa bulsa! hehehehe Quote Link to comment
abc999
I call them convenience cards, not credit cards. I make sure that i pay in full or suffer the high interest rate. Edited May 18, 2007 by abc999 Quote Link to comment
thrillseeker
Once again, I greatly thank you guys for educating me with these information. As I understood, if I use the card and not pay it in full, interest rates will haunt me down. This impression gives me the idea that I can even use the card for as long as I can subdue the interest rates or might as well pay the bill in full in order not to suffer. Thank you. circleguy
WARNING!!!! I have a story to tell you guys about my CITIBANK SHELL GOLD MASTERCARD. I have a 240K credit limit on it and very satisfied with the rebates and discounts when I use it in a Shell gas station. Somehow though I stopped using it for a few months coz of my last oil change. Now here's the kicker, Last month I ate in Itallianni's Megamall and the following week I ate in Outback rest in makati. Evrything was fine and I got my statement and it was all cool, Then Last May 10, I bought a couple of watches from WASHINGTON Jewelry in megamall via 0% for 6 months. The weekend came and by Sunday evening May 13, a Ctibank officer called me and did the usual verification on me. The citibank person was from the fraud department and asked me if i used my card on several establishments in megamall, greenhills, and a mall in taguig(didnt know there was a mall there) that amounted to 147K!!! The fraud personnel enumerated several establishements like G force, TOYKINGDOM, Star TREND apparel and even redribbon cake in missouri street greenhills!!! 13 charges total!!! and tindi!!! I have my card with me all the time. They said I wont be responsible for any of those fraudulent charges. I hope that's true or all hell will break lose!!! They immediately emailed me a dispute form and advised me to fax it back along with a xerox copy of my card proving I still have it. They said that my card was swiped by the merchants mentioned above, meaning na clone card ko!!! They said it takes some time for a card to be copied and produced. From my Washington purchase around 2pm, the next fraud charge was made 9pm already. I dunno who to suspect but Im pretty sure its one of the 3 establishments. If it takes days to manufacture a copied card then Washington is clear but if only a few hours then sila na yon for sure. Kaya sa mga gumagamit ng cards madalas, observe the cashier when they swipe your card, baka meron sila device to copy the magnetic strip ng cards nyo. and for restaurants, go to the cashier and dont just hand over your card and not see where they are taking it. Ingat mga peeps!!! Im still waiting for a response sa kanila na hindi ako responsible sa chargesand I took all the names of the reps who i talked to as refernce that they assured me na hindi ako responsible. They immediately sent a replacement card to me nga pala and changed the account numbers. Now im nervous for next month, all HELL will break lose if i have to pay for those charges!!! I jsut wonder why these establishments never asked for ID for such large purchases!!!! Just a friendly warning PEace sa inyo!! Quote Link to comment

If they just copy your account number, then using the back-up phone verification system (used when the swiper is not is service), they can charge it to your account and with a fax of the merchant copy, its easy enough to duplicate your signature. I'm in a running fight with a credit card company who were charging me 1.5M for 'purchases' I supposedly made here in the RP using my credit card while I was in Europe. They had the bank copy of the slips with my 'signature' on it. Thankfully, my lawyer said that as long as the dates conflict with that on my passport, I should have no problem telling them to go to hades. Quote Link to comment

starbucks
Hi my 2 cents on the credit cards..... credit card cloning is a reality.... lalo na sa mga dubious establishments.... pero minsan yung mga staff din ang kakutsaba ng mga cloners kaya kawawa rin yung establishment........once you see a suspicious transaction immediately call your card issuer and ask them to temporarily block your card para wala nang unauthorized transaction until everything is cleared. If the transaction is really a fraud... immediately demand for a new card dahil nde nyo na magagamit yung existing card number nyo .... ever.... keep your sales slips and rip it off if you intend to dispose of it.....dun pa lang pede nang mag commit ng fraud...... pero da best na gawin nyo e wag nyong gamitin ang card if possible , dahil oras na ginamit nyo at gumastos kayo ng mas malaki sa kinikita nyo, dyan ang umpisa ng paglubog nyo sa napakalalim na pag kakautang..... Credit card in the phils is still not a necessity compared to US of A. Banks love it if you revolve your balance dahil dito sila kumikita...aside from the annual fees.. I work at a credit card related company...... i don't like credit cards but its how i make a living....... Quote Link to comment
Alucard
Last year I apply for HSBC Visa Card, They declined my application, just knowing that I am OFW. Pre, sang country ka naka based? dun ka nalang kumuha nang credit card kesa sa pinas. In my case, ganun ang ginawa ko. I had a great deal on my credit cards, especially from one of the locals banks here. No annual fees ever, 1% cash back. only 2.25% interest rate and 55 days interest free. Quote Link to comment

Google
nangyari na rin sa akin yang nangyari kay circleguy (Citibank Visa)ako kasi, i just keep my CCs sa wallet inside the car. one time, may dumating sa akin na statement, na may mga purchases sa amazon tsaka mga subscription sa mga porn sites. i don't use my cards online so nakakagulat. disputed all transactions, pero medyo matagal nai-reverse. inabot din ata ng 3 months. during the dispute, i told them that i will not pay for the transactions as well as any interests incurred on the transactions. inayos naman nila and they issued me a new CC.
