Who Is Into Scale Modelling?

Well, strictly speaking, scale models include paper models. But if youre referring to the IPMS Bert Anido Nationals, its more of the plastic scale model kind. The ones you buy in kit form and assemble and paint.

yep. i've done that too. problem lang kasi magastos, mabigat sa pera. especially when i saw this abram tank sa SM fairview. gusto ko bilhin, then i realized, walang oras na isassemble and cash din.. wears thin. then wala pa malagyan na model.

so i changed to cardmodelling. sulit. you might want to try it out. paper lang. and if you have rhino? you can model it up, then you'll know how many folds you'll need.

anyway. just sharing. gusto ko rin model kits. sad to say, walang budget.

just search google: cardmodelling.

they have a forum for this stuff. maganda to for making those big sets of models, for your kit models. you'll get tips from there as well.

Doc,

Nationals on November 24-28, 2008.

Ill keep posting updates on the precise dates and area. But its certainly going to be in SM Mega.

See you there!!

:)

Herr Boelcke, arghhh why hold it during workdays? Now I have to find an excuse to make a client call in that area and I can't bring the misus along to show her what kits and other stuff I need to buy.

I've seen some of the models in the net that have been made out of paper, including a lot of military aircraft and AFVs. Hard to believe they're made out of paper. IMHO it still takes as much time to do a good paper model as a plastic model. You still have to paint it well and take care of the finish. Have you tried out 1/72 aircraft and armor? Some of them come out to less than P200 each and they have very good detail, especially for the new kits.

Doc,

The venue's schedule is pretty crunched up, if we wanted a week-long (or what would qualify as a week-long thingy), wed have to agree to the available sked. Punta ka na! Its almost as good as a trip to the spa.

:)

Going to Megamall on a weekday isn't exactly fun but maybe the entries will make me drool. I miss the time when this was held in Harrison Plaza. Sigh.

Question:

Does anybody know how to do a good camouflage effect with an airbrush? I've trying to get a grey/black camo pattern on an Armored Core model but so far all my practice paints on plastic sheets have met with mixed results (ie, most of them suck @ss).

How can you overlap the colors and make it look like they're blending together?

Maybe you mean doing a camo scheme with soft edges? What I do is make paper masks in the shape of the camo scheme that I'm spraying and attach it to the model with masking tape rolled so that it lifts the paper slightly off the edge of the model. When you spray the unmasked area, the masked portion will receive a soft or feathered edge. Another way is to angle the airbrush if you spray freehand so you get a soft edge. Another way is to spray thru a dot or some small shaped stencil punched out or cut out from index card or cardboard, holding it a half inch from the model and airbrushing thru that stencil. That will also give you a feathered edge. I hope that's what you meant.

Is that fellowship night open to everyone Herr Boelcke?

really want to try this, pero pasmado ako eh :)

It's OK to be pasmado, just rest your palms/wrists on something solid if you're working with delicate parts. I'm pasmado and eyesight is poor but I still manage.

Doc,

Yes, of course! We thought it might be a great idea to have a night out for us local modelers to mingle amongst each other, make new friends.

Btw, the Nationals is doing really great! Per yesterday's unofficial count there are close to 700 entries on the tables this year. Clearly a new record!

Was there yesterday to judge some of the entries. And some are simply mind-blowing.

Congratulations to IPMS BAC! I hope this means the hobby is alive and flourishing here.

I was able to visit the show last Tuesday as I brought my suit to The Valet Shop for cleaning. I was in a hurry so I took some hurried shots. Sorry for the poor photos as I only got to use my point and shoot cam in a span of 20 minutes. I was hoping to meet the well respected Sir Boelcke and Doc Pepper but did not know how. Congratulations for the successful event. Here are the pictures:
