SPORTS & WORKOUT INJURIES

ankles are brittle and don't heal particularly well.

for really bad, bad sprains, we can't really expect to get the same level of function afterward.

it's just the nature of the beast.

as for complicated8's knee, I hope that you're following the Shawne Merriman case (although obviously, he's got it worse...PCL palang katay na).

the problem with knee injuries like that is that joint stability is obviously compromised.

it won't bother you as much now (I actually had a classmate whose torn ACL was neglected from high school through college...his knee looked a bit weird, even funny) but it will be an even bigger issue down the road.

thanks, sir. So far, from the back of my knee - the most injury prone part is the inner part of the front knee. :(

I'm just waiting for the right time to have it fixed coz the knee never feels a hundred percent. :(

good and very important point.

repair/reconstruction is just half of the equation.

as one of my favorite teachers said once, even if we successfully repair everything and make it good as new, if the patient flounders in rehab, the prospects are going to be bleak. if the patient ends up quitting rehab altogether, that practically renders the procedure futile.

it's one thing to restore structural stability---that part is actually easy as procedures and protocols have been fine-tuned over the years.

regaining function and retraining yourself to do all the the things you once did with perfect ease, now that's tough, tough work.

it's really your call.

kung gusto, madaming paraan.

kung ayaw, madaming dahilan.

mas takot ako sa rehab time than the surgery.... it's too long...

sabi nga nung doctor - pag-isipan ko daw muna if I really want it coz it's an expensive procedure. I just wish it happened while I was still employed. Now, that am not. the cost of surgery is really tough :( a lot of people daw don't go thru surgery but you have to give up sports. maybe it's time to give it up. yung arthritis... maybe it's inevitable.

So baka sa Wii na lang ako mag-sports hehehe.

I'm playing hurt and not really able to do the things I used to. I just wish I was paid to play then I would really go for surgery.

will try the hilot route.

i saw that football player you mentioned is going to get some work done on his knees and will be out for 3 months yata.

Merriman had it a bit worse as PCL repairs tend to be much more tricky.

it's still beyond me why San Diego's medical staff gave him the go-signal to play the first game of the season despite four separate, independent consults with specialists across the country which told him to quit football for the meantime and work his way back to health.

the macho football culture probably got in the way.

i tried shadow boxing mga last month.

bumalik siya. iba yung sakit niya compared pag nagbabasketball

yung tipong abot sa batok yung sakit pag lumilingon.

Go see a doctor ASAP to avoid worsening ur condition. Iced it down. I assume that before you do anything physical e u do some stretching naman.

And since medyo matagal na yan im sure there is something wrong.

about the part of giving up sports...i can't say i agree with that (well at least not in my case).

i've had a number of recurring knee injuries over the past few years. it started as a knee sprain and unfortunately i didn't take the time to let it heal. long story short i ended up tearing my acl, tearing my meniscus (can't remember if it was the lateral or medial) and partially tearing my PCL. but surprisingly enough i was still able to play basketball. the only catch was i could only manage once a week max (at 1-2 hours of intense play) because my knee got really sore.

but anyway regarding the surgery, i would advocate such a thing especially if you're still young and if you have the financial means. the hardest part of it (and most impt imo) would probably be the physical therapy. that takes a lot of discipline and dedication so make sure you get yourself a very good therapist.

As to any sports/musculoskelal injuries during the ACUTE Stage (on site of injury- until 2-3days) do RICE

Rest the part injured

Ice it-ice massage circular pattern

Compression-apply elastic bandage to minimize the inflammation

Elevation

don't apply hot compress or any heat modalities as it may worsen the condition.

During the CHRONIC STAGE (after 3 days onwards) that's the time you can apply heat

This simple protocol is commonly neglected by many. Hope this simple thing can help you guys.

As for Mr. Comlicated8 and etc who had knee problem...dont go for hilots..remember that knee injuries are complex. Each knee injuries has different treatment approch so better consult an orthopaedic surgeon first, and if neglected later it may become worse. In rehabilitative approach usually strengthening, flexibility and balance and conditioning training are the mainstay of treatment..EXERCISE.

baka overweight ka or you have poor running form which places unnecessary stress on your fascia. could be caused by a bone spur too. in any case, see a rehab or orthopedic doctor. lay off the running for a while as well as prolonged standing.

i have fancied trying the pose method that i saw on youtube,i guess i tried too much. (maraming kinakain bago magbuhat :)) heheh

The hilot that i went to was able to rehab those with stroke/paralysis and are now able to walk again. I know it may get worse but I'm trying this first before I opt for surgery.

Meron daw full time employee na nag-massage ng finger ni Kobe kaya nag-heal ang mga fingers nya. I think this is equivalent to our hilot too. :)

Not really - my mind. Because if I could have willed it to get better, I would. It's the hilot who was able to do it to multiple people and not just one. Like the hilot said, if the ligaments are broken, there's nothing he/she can do.

May not be scientific but it is observable and repeatable. It's not a single occurrence and I do know that some don't work and some do. I don't trust all hilots. I do trust those that were able to heal people I know and from past experience.

When the doctor tells you that you'll never walk again or therapy progress is so slow, try the hilot with experience and maybe your progress will be faster. :)

Ankle sprain - out two weeks minimum depending on severity, after 1 or 2 visits to hilot within a week and you can play again the following week. I've observed this multiple times.
