Dude, if you're new to guitars, I wouldn't suggest jumping to scales and modes this quick. Try finger exercises and plain old chords first.

So what's on your effects chain?

 

Just recently I was using a BCB6 with a BD2, DS1, AC2, CH1, GE7 and CS3 plus Boss tuner. Can't afford the boutique pedals so I stayed with my Boss units for several years. ( Actually, my wife won't allow me to splurge on those boutique units, heheh )

 

For good or bad, a guy I came across with at another forum agreed to trade his Roland Synthesizer for the whole bunch. I'm enjoying the synth a lot these days but I do miss the pedals.

 

Right now, I have a DIY pedal board with a Digitech RP50 which handles the modulations and delay side, an inexpensive Behringer Vintage Distortion ( which looks like a Bigg Muff) for dirt and sustain -- and a Danelectro Fab Distortion to kick or boost in with the Behringer for solos or fills. I also use a volume pedal to complete the package. It is quite minimal and inexpensive but it does serve the purpose since I am more into old school classic and blues. Darn, the Danelectro is dirt cheap!

 

It's cheap, I admit-- but I do like the sound I get from it.

 

Will I get more expensive pedals? Perhaps I will in the future - thinking of adding a Boss SD1 to the line. Right now, I happy with what I have.

Nice thread. Was once a guitar freak myself, even formed a band with my mates a few years back. Ngayon, singit singit na lang because I never really got any better at it, maybe because I'm too lazy, although I still own an electric (customized strat) axe and a semi acoustic guitar.

I usually preferred having batteries to power my pedals but those effects can really run up a bill in terms of 9volt purchases.

 

Yesterday, I got myself a 1SPOT power supply to power all the pedals. So far, after 3hours of jams. there was no hum at all. No noise.

 

Goodbye batteries!

I got the 1Spot from a guy I came across with at another forum.

I actually have several made to order power supply units that was fabricated / put together by a couple of enterprising electronic wizards from again, the same forum. The units are ok as they do power up as much as 10 pedals at once without hassles and very very little noise.

 

Unfortunately, those things usually are the of the size of stomp pedals and they have individual cables for each unit ( like a DC Brick ).

 

I had wanted something smaller with a Daisy Chain so I searched on for the 1Spot.

I bought my fretboard conditioner from Lazer music store in Ali Mall pa a couple of years ago -- a small bottle of D'Andrea that is still with me. Hindi p[a ubos.

 

I don't use it much since most of my guitars have maple fretboards so they just need some wiping after each use and they're ok. I use the fretboard conditioner on a couple of my guitars that Rosewood board-- but I use them very sparingly din.

Thanks for the replies and feedback, guys. I really appreciate it. I decided to get the Spider III 75 watt amp. It was the last day of the Handog Sale at Yamaha, so I decided to go for it. I'll try to attach a photo of my gear so far. :thumbsupsmiley:

I am new to electric guitar playing and is just about to set-up.

 

So, could any give a crash course on the gears I need as well as how they are set-up, with the following considerations : 1) use is just inside home; wireless is preferred; c) option for headphone.

 

Kindly provide range from mid to high price as quality is key to me (and that costs money).

Ok let me try answering my own inquiry on set-up based on what I was able to research so far. Feel free to comment.

 

First off - the main piece, the axe. I want the classic black Gibson SG. If I could wait it out, I want to get the Robot II which according to my intel will come off the hinges within 4 months. What do you think? Is it worth waiting out? Any experience on the first Robot ? Anyways, Im a lefty, and I was told by a Gibson representative from Nashville (where Gibson parent company is based) that they could customize a Robot II left-handed guitar for for additional yayos.

 

Second, the amp. Marshall seems to be the one that works best for the Gibson SG. Now the question is what wattage is best for home playing. Is 100 watts low, high or just about right? And what about the model ? I saw the Marshall MG100DFX. It's huge I thought. But then again, the MG50DFX is just slightly smaller and slightly cheaper than the former. I was told that the MG100DFX (DFX stands for Digital Effects; 100 stands for the wattage; MG stands for "My God !" ), covers much effects and elimintes use of common effects such as bass chorus and distortion pedals. I was a bit bummed though because I want to learn to play old style, with the use of the pedals.

 

Third, the footswitch. Not sure if this comes with the amp as some reviews say it does while others don't. So, to be conservative about it, I separated the footswitch, which is used to control the amp by foot.

 

Fourth, the wireless gig. I've browsed and stumbled upon Sennheiser EW 172 G2. They feature 9 frequency banks in the 518-554 MHz range. I've not yet identified the radar of this gig so feel free to chime in data. The setlist is composed of :

1) SK 100 G2 bodypack transmitter

2) EM 100 G2 rack-mount receiver

3) CI 1 instrument cable

4) NT 2-1 power supply unit

5) 2 telescopic antennas

6) 2 AA batteries

 

Fifth, the headphone. I have not yet done research on this but would you know of wireless headphones? I mean, it doesn't make sense to play wireless guitar if my headphone is wired, does it?

 

Please feel free to comment on the set-up, if they make sense. Minus the computer which I already have, Im budgeting not higher than Php150,000. Thanks in advance for feedback, hope I get some.

men, the first robot tunes by itself. the second robot is yet to be launched, but hopefully soon. no data yet on the innovations.

 

the robot version is for all the line of Gibson electric guitars, not just SG. sorry if I got you confused, I just learned of it myself last night.

i really prefer a wireless set-up men. but I do like the info na malakas na pala ung 15 watts. i would have to research more on tube amp, or maybe people can share here advantages ng tube amp.

wow the blackburst looks like a mix between classic and futuristic. pare i highly recommend you to listen to a tube amp, it's worth the exorbitant price haha! will this be for home use lang like practice or for recording? kasi if you're gonna be playing with yourself, este, by yourself lang, i don't see how you can get the maximum benefit of the wireless. oo nga pala lefty ka nga pala, mahirap nga maghanap ng guitars for lefty. if you want you can have one custom made, madami nauuso na custom guitar makers here in the phils
