Wacky Dreamer
i was looking for an automated solution where the backup is done regularly. How regular, and how much are you backing-up? Try Nitix if you want a hot-swap solutionOr browse around sourceforge for a cool script. (It was tempting to search one for the post) Or you may, BASH!: 1! do 'dd' or cp -r, tar, or2! just update a pre backed-up copy with use of touch, diff, "logs sniff", >-cat-grep, ...Oh yes, and 3! svn, csv, bzr (what else???)4! or just image copy all triggered using the clock or a coffee-with-mug maker HA!hehe...wonder if the gods went through this? jhuneus
i was looking for an automated solution where the backup is done regularly. You just need two tools, RSYNC and CRON. Here are two articles you can reference to. Both are quite old but they still apply http://linuxgazette.net/104/odonovan.htmlhttp://rootprompt.org/article.php3?article=8976 You can get rsync from here: http://samba.anu.edu.au/rsync/ Quote Link to comment

jhuneus
hmmm...cron jobs might be a good solution. btw, am using ubuntu feisty fawn. Yeah, once you have the script that does the backup just create a cron job for it and your good to go.Found a tutorial on how to setup the backups here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=240326 I haven't tested it as I don't have an Ubuntu installation yet. Still planning to test Gutsy one of these days. Quote Link to comment

poppinfresh2k5
hehe very true. but still, linux does need a user friendliness upgrade if it wants to be mainstream. but at what cost nga does it pit against the allure of linux as opposed to usability. curious though about gutsy gibbon. ill try it out one of these days. webmaster_ph
its free so i have no complaints about it. Quote Link to comment
poppinfresh2k5
well read. i know its free. "cost" as to does it sacrifice its stability and rock solid performance as opposed to being everything for everyone and usability? the closest that has come to this is OS X but even it cannot be that for everyone against windows. opening yourself to usability will necessitate being vulnerable to flaws and yes, also bloat. thats why i like linux. streamlined, free, and a solid OS. but it sure isnt for everyone.
