  1. Running is also beneficial for slowing down the aging process. Those who run regularly are less likely to experience bone and muscle loss as they age at the same pace as those who do not run regularly or at all. The bones grow and become stronger by responding to physical demands. Those who lead a rather sedentary lifestyle do not put this type of demand on their bones and as a result the bones may become weaker. When this happens the individual is more likely to be susceptible to osteoporosis as they age. Conversely, those who run on a regular basis are continually taxing their muscles and their bones so the bones are stimulated to remain stronger and do not as easily weaken with age.

Word of caution, though, check out with running coaches (if you're seriously into it) the proper ways of doing and enjoying this activity.

  2. With the current lineup that Ginebra has and the kind of import they have this conference they won't go far a major shakeup is imminent during the offseason wherein I expect them to pluck a few talented big men by discarding some of their talented guards in their current lineup.

    'Tis more like it !!!

  3. A news from Philstar:

COMMENT: Bakit hindi na lang si Jimmy Alapag (nasa Talk & Text din naman siya- he has the heart and experience)

Smart Gilas in search of another ace guard

By Joey Villar (The Philippine Star) Updated June 18, 2010 12:00 AM

    Rajko Toroman

MANILA, Philippines - With top prospect Chris Banchero opting to finish his studies in the US, Smart Gilas Pilipinas said it needs another point guard to backstop the team competing in the Asian Games this year.

“He said he wants to finish school in the US but I will still talk to his agent and ask him to reconsider,” said RP team coach Rajko Toroman, referring to the flashy, 6-1 point guard at US NCAA Division II Seattle Pacific U.

“If Banchero is out, we’ll search for another point guard somewhere else, maybe in the PBA,” he added.

Smart Gilas team manager Frankie Lim confirmed Smart Gilas’ plan but didn’t specifically say which PBA team they would tap for a reliable guard.

“We’re looking at the team but things have to be ironed out first,” he said.

One of the names being mentioned is Fil-Am Ryan Reyes, who was traded along with Kelly Williams from Sta. Lucia Realty to Talk n Text, Smart Gilas’ sister team, last month.

The high-leaping Williams will join Smart Gilas right after the ongoing PBA season to reinforce the Filipinos in the Asian Games in Guangzhou in November and hopefully in next year’s FIBA-Asia Championships which serves as the qualifier for the 2012 London Olympics.

There were reports, however, that Reyes won’t be available since he would need to be with his wife, who is due to give birth late this year.

Smart Gilas is also eyeing American Marcus Douthit as the team’s prospect for a naturalized player. Douthit will show his wares in the MVP Invitational slated June 24-27 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

The 6-5 Williams and the 6-10 Douthit are expected to bolster Smart Gilas’ front court that also includes seven-footer Greg Slaughter, 6-11 Jason Ballesteros, 6-9 Japeth Aguilar, Dylan Ababou and Mac Baracael.

The need for another point guard came about after JV Casio sustained an injury, leaving co-skippers Chris Tiu and Mark Barroca to man the team’s backcourt.

“We learned from our Doha stint that we would need another point guard in case our other guards get injured,” said Toroman.

The Serbian coach, however, isn’t giving up on Banchero.

A junior at SPU, Banchero led the Falcons to a 22-6 record in a recent tournament, averaging 19.6 points, 2.9 assists and 1.3 steals. He’s also a 52 percent shooter from the field. He was selected to the NCAA Division II men’s basketball All-America team.

If Banchero’s parents will agree, he will be included to the Smart-Gilas lineup in the William Jones Cup on July 13-21 in Taiwan, and probably in the tough FIBA-Asia Stankovic Cup on Aug. 7-15 in Beirut, Lebanon.

In the Stankovic Cup, the Philippines will play against the national teams of Lebanon, Iran, Jordan, Qatar, South Korea, Japan, Uzbekistan and Syria.

  4. Babe,

    You just crossed my mind!

My thoughts are free to go anywhere, but it's surprising how often they head in your direction. Please don’t prevent me from liking and loving you- I fully know the past episode in you, that you might have unwittingly place a barrier to a pesky mortal like me. I won’t let to cause you anymore misery, and I promise I won’t subject you to that kind of pain anymore, ever. I’ll do anything to never see you sad. Tayong dalawa papuntang kaligayahan, katahimikan, at walng kamatayang pagmamahalan. I really love you BebeLuvs, I really do!

I would like to believe we were fated to meet. Right now, am already drawing out wonderful plans for us- ganyan ako ka-seryoso sa yo. I guess I realized the meaning of life when I knew you.

What made me realized that I found my destiny in you is not the companionship nor the friendship, kundi yung hindi maipaliwanag na kaligayahan kapag kasama’t iniisip kita. That’s how simple it is- need I explain more?

I will be waiting ,hoping, and wishing for the time, when we can be together. Meeting you was fate, being a friend of yours was a choice, and loving you is everlasting. Meanwhile, I etched your name in my heart, and that's where it will stay.

“Tell me your dreams, tell me your desires,

Tell me what lights up your life's fire.

Express your heart out to me,

Release your mind, set it free.”

Hope to see you soon BebeLuvs dyan sa Pinas- miss na miss na kita!

I love you, BebeLuvs !!! Ingat ka palagi…

    Cupcake.

  5. Bakit biglang hinandle ni Ato Agustin ang headd coach chores in this crucial stage of the tournament...sana transition muna.

Medyo inaalat SMB, tapos nagluloko pa Freeman...Tsk Tsk Tsk!!!

But I still believe they will reach the semis...Lumaban pa rin kahit walang import...

  6. Parang ang liit liit ng line up ng Ginebra, dont you think so? Parang lahat ng players with the exception of Rico Villanueva puro gwardya. Masakit ang pag katalo. Lamang na sana ng malaki nawala pa. JJ talagang wala na! I dont think his injury is severe kung kundi, hindi ipapasok madalas ni Jong yun. parang out of condition siya.

Oo nga! puro guards...may brainstorming ba mgmtat coaching staff pag may ganyang trades.baka nga may ilalaglag uli...sabi mo nga: ABANGAN!!!

  7. Circa 96/97:

We (3 pinoy engineers and 1 british architect) are all Manila-hired working in a not-so-distant province where our company's

power plant facility was being constructed. One evening nagyaya yung mabait at gwapo naming British colleague para mag-bar- mukhang

may bonus na nakuha sa kanyang employer (we are the local partner in this ambitious project then). Siempre malaki value ng pera nila

kaya open. But when we entered our fave bar duon ay all occupied na ang VIP rooms. But the manager saw us (we are frequent 'good'customers)and she offered us their office.

I saw my Pinoy colleague fingering the British' partner

habang naglalaplapan sila. Minsan tikiman ng mga partner, all the while overflowing ang beers. Grabe lasing lahat at we all did our

respective partners and some of the rotation dancers.

When we reminisce this episode, my co-engineer tagged this as parang 'nasa impyerno' kami that time kasi pulos kasalanan ang nagawa sa loob ng vip room cum office na yun.

  8. Today's Sports News from Philstar's Beltran:

Meanwhile, Barangay Ginebra is also replacing its import for the second time, looking for former Canadian national player Denham Brown in an attempt to fire up its bid for at least an outright quarterfinals seat.

Brown, who became a top collegiate prospect after scoring 111 points in a game for West Hill Institute versus R.H. King Academy in Toronto, is set to arrive today from the US.

“We’ll look at him in practice. If he’s okay and if we can work on his documents right away, then he’ll play Saturday against Talk n Text,” Ginebra coach Jong Uichico told The STAR.

“Hopefully, he’s okay and he can help us snap Talk n Text’s streak,” Uichico added.

The team management and coaching staff believe they can’t go far with current import Mildon Ambres, their second after Awvee Storey.

  9. Toroman hot on Douthit as Gilas import, but report has it that he had been involved in a shady deal in the past:

Lakers' pick charged with insurance scam

    July 29, 2004

    The Sports Network

Providence, RI (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Lakers second-round draft pick Marcus Douthit was charged Thursday for his part in a major insurance scam.

Douthit, who played collegiately at Providence College and was selected by the Lakers in the most recent NBA Draft, allegedly participated in a phony car accident and pocketed $6, 500 from the false claim.

According to Michael Healey, a spokesman for the state attorney general's office, Douthit and six others were charged in the 125-count indictment.

Douthit has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit embezzlement and one count of embezzlement more than $100 and could face a maximum of 30 years in prison on the charges. Healey is encouraging Douthit to turn himself into authorities.

Douthit, 24, was reportedly on his way to signing a guaranteed contract with the Lakers after impressing the team in summer league action. He averaged eight points and six boards per game for Providence last season.

Providence College officials have declined comment at this time.
