The lakers should they win vs houston in their final game will get the 7th seed as they own the tie breaker by virtue of having a better record against western conference teams.

I don't think the lakers are a much better team without kobe. Butin his absence it gives the others a chance to step up and shine.

Its really a disappointing season for the lakers.... Moreso for kobe after all his efforts to carry this team then suffering this season ending injury

possible but difficult .... a sweep of their remaining games should assure them of the final spot irregardless of what happens to the remaining games of utah.

I wasn't expecting PP and KG to play vs WSH. It seems the C's are not only trying to distance themselves from the Bucks but rather are making a strong push for 6th seed ... to evade a first round series with the Heat as well as the surging Knicks who have now solidify their hold as the 2nd seed. IMHO A series with the most likely 3rd seeded Pacers will surely be a much desirable first round series for the Celtics rather than facing the Heat or the Knicks.

Hatfield will have to play more minutes guarding the imports of opposing teams. Others like Kerby, Rico and the undersized Wilson will have to step up in the absence of Mama.

Based on the NBA Website, the Lakers are favored by most fans (roughly 78% overall) to grab the 8th seed in the Western Conference. If they continue winning the rest of the games, they'd surely meet the fans' expectations.

But it will surely break the haters heart!

Since utah also won yesterday, it is important for the lakers to win against the clippers to consolidate their lead.

One of the commentators in the houston vs portland game said that the game against the clippers will be crucial for the lakers as a win would most likely lead to a playoffs spot. While the lakers still has to face teams with better record like san antonio and houston, this will be towards the end of the regular season thus it is likely that these teams will rest their stars?

The Celltics lost to the cavs. in this game the C's decided to rest PP.

I was looking at the standings and noticed that the Knicks are currently at number 2 in the east. If they can maintain that position, it seems that it will be an interesting first round series irregardless whether the Celtics ends up being 8th or 7th.

The Heat and the Knicks are two of the hottest teams now ... of course some may argue that the Heat have lost but I think they are now on cruise control mode

The Jazz lost to the Nuggets as a result the Lakers are now back to 8th place with a half game lead for the last spot.

Shaq got his jersey retired but I believe there's no other laker with a jersey retired that played for the Celtics.

Was he the only ex-Laker that played for the Celtics? He was way past his prime when he joined the Celtics. I think the Celtics were hoping they could extract some more juice from the big fella. He retired after a year with the C's despite still having another year in his contract.

I remember Shaw and Fox who started out their careers in Boston but eventually played and ended their career as a Laker. These two never won a title with Boston but were important pieces to the Lakers dominance during the Shaq - Kobe era.

The Celtics can secure a spot in the playoffs with another win coupled with another loss by the sixers. And imho the bucks' lead should be enough to secure the final spot. In reference to my previous post, the C's finally nailed a spot in the playoffs with a win over the Pistons.

I expect the Bucks to get the last spot even if they lose tonight vs the Wolves ... BUT it does not necessarily mean they will be seeded 8th. With 8 games left, they could still at least tie the Celtics record and end up being seeded 7th. The C's needs to maintain their lead over the Bucks if they want to avoid the Heat in the first round.
