  1. Those were great pics Sir willow boy...they brought back a lot of nostalgia. In the early 70s, ginagala namin yan ng uncle ko from his Reuters office located on the same bldg. where you see the Telegraph office. Pag X'Mas Season, practically all dept. stores along the Escolta strip are all lighted up end to end. Really miss those times...

  2. We knew mang Nonoy personally. He's also from Malabon. I met him when I was a little kid during the time of his Tisoy comic strip.

I remembered I gave a signed Ikabod pocketbook to my girldriend. Nasaan na kaya iyon?

He referred to Malabon as Malavenice. :D

Tama si Pareng wb...must-have collection na yan including many of his editorial sketches with Manila Times.

Another famous local cartoon strip then was GORIO AND HIS JEEPNEY. The movie version starred funnyman Chiquito. Just can't remember who authored this amusing character.

  3. Speaking of mid 70's shows, anybody here remember watching Darren McGavin in the short lived "THE NIGHTSTALKER"? Real creepy!

Crime reporter KOLCHAK. The "X-File" version of the 70s. The episodes are usually comedies of horror but nonetheless amusing. Watched each and every episode on TV until the creators re-titled it to THE NIGHT STRANGLER. By then, the spin-off ran out of good plots.

Btw, did you know Darren McGavin passed away early this year? :mtc:

  4. Ang tataas pa tumalon ng mga Black Ninja! Mwahahaha!!!! I remember Shintaro and Tombe, his sidekick.

There are DVDs out there on this series. Ang kaso nga lang e sa Australia and New Zealand available (aside from Japan, of course) at iba ang format na ginamit. :( I'd love to have this series as part of my collection.

Maganda rin iyong Zatoichi, the Blind Swordsman. There were a number of movies made about this character in the late 60s to early 70s. They still show these movies on American TV as frequent as once or twice a month. :thumbsupsmiley:

Funny thing but if my memory serves me right, the Jap actor who played the original ZATOICHI was SHINTARO KATSU. :goatee:

SONNY CHIBA was also high in the list of Jap martial artists in the 70s. Remember STREET FIGHTER?

He also starred as the sword-maker and samurai teacher, Hatori Hanzo, in Quentin Tarrantino's k*ll Bill. :mtc:

  5. There's a looming controversy that may elevate into a full-blown legal battle between TOP RANK (of Bob Arum) and GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS (of Oscar dela Hoya). The sooner this is resolved outside of the court, the better for Pacman. It was reported earlier that Arum is arranging a deal with the camp of WBA superfeartherweight champ Edwin "El Dinamita" Valero for a fight in Macau, although Manny (and most boxing afficionados) would prefer another battle finale with Barrera.

Either way, we hope they do the fight in Manila instead.

  6. YES!!! I do remember that tv series. Count me as one of the big fans of this show. This show actually started in the mid-60s. It was shown on Philippine tv in the late 60s and some reruns in the early 70s. I admired the show not only for the great sword action scenes but also for the authenticity in settings and costumes.

That was the first time we were introduced to the mysticism and fighting skills of the BLACK NINJA on TV.

I also remember watching the movie ZATOICHI: The Blind Swordsman.

After watching with my tito, we passed by Quiapo-Ilalim to buy a Samurai. :P

  7. malapit na 'to...

    kabado kaya si pacquiao?...

Kabado lahat pati mga pupusta sa laban. Dehado si Morales. He checked in at

the hotel in Vegas weighing 136 lbs. If this were true, he would have to bring his

weight down again for Friday's weigh-in.

  8. tama si aldrich one time merong isang anak ng nokor general playing sa marina

he even have the guts to show yung binebenta nilang ak 47 meron pang brochure.

nung araw na yun talo syang 15 million pesos :D

When you're an official of a country that is the considered by the US Secret Service as the main source and producer

of what it describes as the "Super Money," (fake $ that are highly un-detectable even by the latest and most sophisticated counterfeit-detection machines) you have practically nothing to lose even in high-stakes gambling.

  9. During those wonderful Crispa-Toyota days, brutality was the norm, both on-court and off-court. Brutality was particularly harsh the day after, especially if your team lost the night before.

And so were the glory days of NCAA in the 70s...when rumbles and riots among rowdy fans in and out of the basketball stadium were just about "normal".

  10. At TFC this morning, RENE GARCIA of Hotdog Band was guest in Sharon's show belting the good 'ole "Manila sound" they have made popular in the 70s and early 80s (esp. Annie Batumbakal, Ikaw lang ang Miss Universe, Manila).

Rene has added (again!) more pounds to his weight but still bubbly as ever.

They introduced their new CD this time a new band name---HOTSILOG.

I remember him and Dennis (his brother?) from their first heavy metal band--RED FOX when rock concerts were the craze of the early 70s just before Martial Law.

  11. I concur pareng mandrake! JT as Vinnie Barbarino.

The whole gang was a riot, but what endeered the show was the redeeming value

of each episode delivered in clean comedic humor....vs. our local version that was

    ISKUL BUKOL. :P
