Funny-looking money. But it was unique. You could buy a piece of candy with this during its time. Eventually, more and more of this was needed to buy a piece of candy

Nobody actually used this to buy things. It alone couldn't buy anything at all. But it was there. For posterity or formality i suppose.

The 50c coin disappeared in the mid 70s until it resurfaced anew in the 80s. But this coin was in circulation throughout the 70s

And the other coins left out were the other 5c and 1c coins that looked "normal"

The other side had the face of Ferdinand Marcos. While there were some that went into circulation in 1975, many people hoarded it as it was a silver coin. It also was the only coin among its contmporaries that magnets can pick up

Speaking of coins, my late father collected them. I have a whole can of P1 coins which everyone wanted way back during high school. These were the 1972 coins which, I heard, were made of silver. I also have two sets of commemorative "Bagong Lipunan" coins, which I'm leaving to my kids, together with the P1 coins. The set includes a P50 coin. My father also collected the old P5 gold coins. He felt that they disappeared because people didn't want to use them since they looked and felt so good. Before he died, my father gave me one of those coins for good luck. It's somewhere around.

I really think it's the 1972 version. I recall that during my freshman year in high school, which was SY 1975-76, my friends and just everyone around wanted to buy the old coins because of their silver content. If the version was just from a year before, it would have been in wide circulation at the time and no one would have had to buy anything from anyone. But really, during my freshman year in HS, they were all after these coins.

Of course all of them bear the signature of Ferdinand Marcos. The Central Bank Governors change. Some bore signatures of Jaime Laya and Jose "Jobo" Fernandez
