They were the 3rd best in the MICAA behind Crispa, Meralco, then Yco, Mariwasa and Yutivo bringing up the rear. Ay, sorry OT na tayo....60's na ito.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hindi ka OT kasi early 70s meron pang MICAA. Favorite ko noon ang Yco. Hindi sila 3rd best. Nung mawala ang Yco lumipat ako sa Crispa. Ano ngang team noon sina Manny Paner at Martirez? Si Jimmy Noblezada ay Mariwasa kasama sina Sullano. Naaalala ko magaling sa defense si Regullano. Sa shooting naman sina Bernardo, Jun Papa, Joy Cleopas at Mariano. Si Webb ang fastest man at magaling din sa lay-up at assist pero banban sa shooting. Manny Paner battled with the likes of Presley (6'11") and Cowart (6'7") for the rebounds, even though he was only 6'2". Their teammates included Estoy Estrada, Rolly Marcelo, Dave Regullano, and Velasco. In the 70s, there used to be a popular magazine called "Cage King." Its first featured player was Jaworski. The others that followed were Jun Papa, Larry Mumar, Manny Paner (I think), Bogs Adornado, and Jimmy Mariano. This was all before the PBA. Quote Link to comment

Si Regullano yung nagpauso ng black shoes! Alala ko dati basta ABC, tigil ang mundo ng pinoy...lalo na kung ang kalaban was South Korea with the dreaded SHIN DONG PA...sa Japan naman si TANIGUCHI at si ABE...wala pa ang China nun. No. 10 was for the great shooters. No. 4 belonged to the team captains. As for the late great, great, great Tembong Melencio, he remains the only player I've seen (and that includes NBA greats) who would finish a fastbreak lay-up using just one hand. I mean, off the dribble, he would take the ball in his right hand (no support from his left) and put the ball in. He was unbelievable. Quote Link to comment

Sina Presley, Tom Cowart, Paul Scranton, Glenn McDonald, Byron "Snake" Jones, Billy Ray Bates, of course you could include Norman Black. There was also Michael Hackett of Toyota who I remember scored 100 points in a game (?).The battles between great opposing imports were truly classic....ngayon, parang revolving-door, bargain-basement types na mga import na nakukuha. The comical Cisco Oliver would fake his free throw and get the opposing players to step on the line pre-maturely and cause violations, that is, until the refs caught on to his shenanigans. He was benched by some KJ coach when the NBA greats came to the Araneta, much to the chagrin of just about anybody who loved basketball. Claimes Cisco skipped practice to hang out with the NBA guys.... If I remember correctly, they were Clyde Frazier, Geoff Petrie, some Randy Smith, some guy named Curtis Perry who blocked Guidaben's jump shot big time. Actually 1973 pala nanalo si Jesus Garcia Jr. Pare yung naging runner-up ay muntik sanang nanalo noon kaya lang team captain niya si Jess Garcia. A few seconds lang ang lamang ni Jess Garcia sa kanya. Cesar Catambay name niya. 1974 nanalo si Teoderico Rimarim at runner-up ulit si Catambay. Samson Etrata won in 1975, Modesto Bonzo in 1976, Manuel Reynante in 1977. Hindi ko matandaan yung 78 pero nung 79 ay si Paquito Rivas ang nanalo. Quote Link to comment

Our cyclists train in tne roughest of terrains (potholes, uneven roads, hot weather, etc.), in very much the same way the long distance runners of Africa do. The Africans produce world champions.
