Hey Zak,

I'm curious about the Pentium M series. How is it? How good does it work? You in the Philippines?

Pentium M is the Mobile proc of Intel and was built from ground-up vs. Pentium desktops counterparts.

It is also part of the Centrino technology. (Pentium-M, intel chipset & intel Wi-Fi)

better just get the P-M & chipset. or the new intel wi-fi w/ 802.11b/g.

I have a Compaq Presario R3070US that I got last February. Here are the specs:

3.06 GHz Pentium 4

512MB RAM

80GB HD

ATi Mobility Radeon 9200 with 64MB Dedicated RAM

WinXP Pro

Firewire

4 USB 2.0 ports

4-in-1 card reader

HP usb Digital Drive docking port and drive with 256MD SD card

15.4" widescreen display (1280x800)

802.11g Wi-fi

S-Video out

1 Type II PCMCIA slot

Modem, LAN, parallel ports

JBL Pro speaker system

DVD+RW drive

I tricked it out with the components I would have wanted included with it such as:

Bluetooth USB dongle

80GB external Firewire storage

IRDA dongle

Port replicator with parallel, serial, 2 PS/2, and 2 USB 1.1 ports

4 port USB 2.0 hub

4 post USB 1.1 hub

Needless to say I'm quite happy with it although those new desktop replacements and TabletPC are starting to look mighty good.

I won't bother listing the specs of my other notebooks as this is my main portable machine. I have 1 Sony VAIO 600MHz Celeron notebook, 1 Compaq Presario 600MHz Celeron notebook, 1 1GHZ Pentium III VAIO notebook. :D

Mine's a Compaq X1000

(kagaya sa small soldiers...hehehehe!! computer chips for nuclear bombs)

30GB HD

256MB RAM (kulang)

1.3GHz Centrino with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IRDA

WXGA (widescreen) display

ATI Radeon Mobility 7500

Guys I would like to recommend a friends shop if you want to upgrade you notebooks. His Laptop shop is virtually a candy store for laptop afficionados. Its COOLTOYZ at Ashcreek center along ortigas avenue. Think of the best notebook money could buy he' got it! Has refurbished models thats really cheap!

I'm currently using an Apple 12" PowerBook G4 with the following specs:

1GHz PowerPC G4

40GB hard drive w/ an external 80GB firewire HDD

768MB DDR SDRAM

32MB video RAM

SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)

built-in 802.11g and Bluetooth.

I'm extremely satisfied with the performance of my laptop and I definitely will not go back to using a PC. No offense meant to all the PC lovers out there but once you've used a Mac I don't think you would want to use a PC again. I've used two different PC laptops before: a Sony Vaio PCG-U1 and an IBM ThinkPad A21m. The Vaio was adorable since it was so small but since it was using a Transmeta Crusoe processor it just couldn't keep up with the work I did with it. The IBM, on the other hand, just died after about three years of use.

For those of you who would like to know more about using a Mac I suggest you visit PhilMUG.
