Pare, astig ang Nile. They're an American death metal band whose music is heavily influenced by ancient Egyptian themes. I have two of their albums, "Black Seeds of Vengeance" and "In Their Darkened Shrines" and both are excellent. Their music is characterized by hyperspeed blastbeat drums which are complemented by equally fast, heavy-handed riffing and are further accentuated by the searing solos of their main songwriter Karl Sanders. When I was playing one of my Nile cds at the office, nagulat yung ka-office ko when she noticed that the music shifted from undiscernable (to her) death metal from one track to music that seemed to be background music from The Ten Commandments on the next track. Nile's new album, "Annihilation of the Wicked" has less Egyptian elements in the music but still retains it in their lyrical themes.

GNR ba? Jan din ako nag-start. Pareho pala tayo ng generation, Revi e. Lamang ka lang ng 2 years but we basically listened to the same bands growing up. Dehins ko nga lang pinakinggan yung Godsmack and Drowning Pool kasi sa underground metal pinapakinggan ko from 2000 and onwards.

Ei thanks.. Immortal.. Kakasawa na din kasi yung topic on religion and death eh.. Kaya ko natanong ang Nile.. kasi I was very intrigued on the name.. parang influenced sila ng themes like.. "Curse of the Pharoahs" ng Mercyful Fate or for more commercialized fans.."Creeping Death" of Metallica.. plus the reviews are really good.. Brutal, pare.. Thanks again..

We are of the same age group pala ano? But you know.. what's my fave band of all-time.. its Black Sabbath (the Ozzy led years).. A friend introduced me to them when I was in college and I was blown away.. Black Sabbath was ahead of their time.. I also listen to Immortal pala.. Not heavily, but I have yung album na nasa avatar mo.. (Pure Holocaust)..

Thanks again pare..

I started out with GNR.  Hehehehe.  Pero I must admit, from there naging aware ako sa 'ROCK AGE' and thus begins my life-long flirt with music.

Yung metal experience ko started when I got my hands on (not in order of succession btw) a few Metallica albums, Sepultura, Megadeth, Slayer, White Zombie, Pantera, Pungent Stench, Yngwie Malmsteen, Rush...

They're the names I remember when asked of metal preferences 'noon'.

Now, my daily staple diet in the Metal Division consists of: Dream Theater, Symphony X, Yngwie Malmsteen (yup, up to now hehehe), Rusty Cooley, Joe Stump, Liquid Tension Experiment, and other more-on-technicality bands.

Me and my high school buds still play tunes from Pantera and Sepultura whenever we get together in a rehearsal studio.  But we mainly play Dream Theater nowadays and some laid-back tunes like Eric Johnson bluesy-type of songs.  Tumatanda na kasi..lumalambot na  :P

Naaalala ko tuloy nung elementary ako, may daladalang walkman at sang katerbang tapes....

tapos kukumpiskahin ng teacher... :grr: hindi pa binalik yung justice for all na tape ko pati yung vulagar display of power... :grr:

He he, walkman, discman, cassettes, cds.

Ayos yun.

Pati shirts.. e.g., Slayer, Metallica.. Good to look back.. :thumbsupsmiley:

Wala pang LRT2 noon!

Revi: Heto recommendations ko sa Opeth (at rating on a scale of 10), bilhin mo lahat pero mag-umpisa sa first album nila.

1) Orchid (1994) - 10/10

2) Morningrise (1996) - 10/10

3) My Arms, Your Hearse (1998) - 8/10

4) Still Life (1999) - 8/10

5) Blackwater Park (2001) - 9/10

6) Deliverance (2003) - 9/10

7) Damnation (2003) - 9/10

8) Lamentations (DVD) (2004) - 8/10

9) Ghost Reveries (2005) - 7/10

astig yung era ng early 90's nung lahat halos ng cassettes na deathmetal/grind etc. rinlease dito. sa sobrang dami ng releases nun e di mo makukumpleto lahat. wala pa cd warehouse, tower at mail order... natututo palang ako uminom nun, magpunta sa strip bars (underage hehe) at magpunta sa underground shows at sa recto din hehe. at that point i was just listening to thrash, speed, hardcore and punk, tas biglang eto andaming bagong metal stuf. very formative years pa nun pti yung mga underground metalheads. nothing but good times.

para dun sa stuck sa metallica at ayaw makinig ng mas magaling na metal bands, it's your loss. anlayo na ng metal ngayon kumpara sa era ng '91 black album mo, man. it's up to you if you'd limit yourself and shun great music, you don't know what yer missin, man.

para dun sa mga dating metal, anytime puede mo balikan man. you can listen to metal and also listen to other music that you dig, and you can't really compare... you'll always come back

ah oo, di ko pala nabanggit na on average mga 8 minutes ang mga kanta nila. dun sa morningrise album nila, may song sila na 20 minutes!!! magaling talaga ang opeth. after they lull you into a dream-like trance with their mellow acoustic guitars - BAM! pasok ang mabigat na riffs at death growls. patay na patay ako sa bandang yan mga 3-4 years ago. medjo nagsawa na ako sa kanila pero it's good to listen to them once in awhile.

no prob, revi! it's my pleasure to recommend great music to others.

Rumors continue to circulate that METALLICA have finally ended their working relationship with producer Bob Rock and are in talks with Rick Rubin (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SLIPKNOT, SLAYER, AUDIOSLAVE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS) about producing the group's next effort, the follow-up to the much-maligned "St. Anger".

It was as far back as last October that the first rumblings of a METALLICA/Rubin collaboration reached BLABBERMOUTH.NET, and the rumors have been gaining strength ever since. Adding fuel to these reports is the fact that Rock is scheduled to spend a good portion of 2006 working on the new CD from MÖTLEY CRÜE, which is expected to surface sometime next year.

In a September 2005 interview with the METALLICA fan club magazine So What!, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was asked point-blank if Bob Rock's name had been discused for the group's next album.

"I would say that Bob Rock will always be our producer," Ulrich replied. "You know it's almost like default. It's not whether he should produce, it's more whether he shouldn't produce it. So I would expect Bob Rock to produce it unless he's not interested."

In the same interview, Ulrich spoke highly of the most recent albums by SLIPKNOT and SYSTEM OF A DOWN — both of which were produced by Rubin — citing them as particularly inspiring in terms of making him "look forward to paying a little more attention to the sonics" next time around.

METALLICA officially began the songwriting process for their new album late last year and are expected to spend the next few months compiling ideas before entering the final recording stage. A late 2006/early 2007 release via Warner Bros. is expected.

Of course hindi.. I don't think you should have long hair.. wear black clothes all the time.. to say that you are metal, punk, or whatever.. There are a lot of people who are listening to the music but do not live the lifestyle or do not wear the clothes that typecast people..

The most important thing is you dig the kind of music you want and that's it.. Its really up to you kung gusto mong malaman ng buong mundo na metal ka dahil kung pumorma ka ganun.. I know someone who has a metal shirt (death band pa nga eh).. but does not even know the band or any death metal band for that matter.. which makes me smile and say.. Ugok!!! Kapag tinanong mo kung bakit sinusuot niya yun.. sabi niya.. Cool daw eh.. atsaka Astig.. Ulol!!! :thumbsdownsmiley: Dami talaga fakes dito sa atin.. stupid poseurs..

I do wear metal shirts from time to time.. the bands that I dig.. but I do not wear long hair.. ang init eh.. at hindi rin skinhead.. kasi magastos sa pagupitan - mantakin mo per week ka magpapagupit.. so normal lang itsura ko.. But I still listen to punk, metal, glam, new wave, rock..

It's not really necessary to project to the world na metal ang pinapakinggan mo. As they say looks can be deceiving. More often than not, yong mga talagang hardcore metal fan ay low profile. Simple lang manamit, without all those cosmetics & fancy stuffs, you wouldn't expect them to be one unless na marinig mo ang mga pinapakinggan nilang music.

I have friends who do listen to metal but are not really a hard core metal fan. Some of them listen to it when they are stressed out or when they are fury & they need an outlet, while some buy those black metal shirts because they appreciate and like the artwork. Aminado naman sila na hinid sila metal fan and they know little about it & i guess there's nothing wrong with that so long na hindi mo ipinagyayabang na metal ka when if fact you hardly know anything about it. Ibang usapan na kung ganon. but sad to say maraming ganyan dito sa pinas, they're into metal para lang masabing "cool" sila, to be "inn" the trend or to merely impress others.

Personaly, gusto ko yong mga artworks ng Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Iced Earth, Cannibal Corpse, to name a few.

In the end, it's not how you look or dress but rather what you truly know about the metal scene.
