razrramon
the truth lost in controversial fashion. i have to see this. Source: www.mmajunkie.com FABRICIO WERDUM VS. BRANDON VERA ROUND 1 - Vera opens with a leg kick, and works for a clinch. The fighters take turns circling off the cage before Werdum lands a few blows and they seperate. Vera again works to tie-up Werdum, and the fight goes to the mat with Werdum on top. Vera works a closed gaurd before pushing out and standing back up. Werdum tries unsuccessfully to take Vera down, and Vera allows Werdum to stand up. Vera lands a few heavy shots on the feet before the fighters clinch again. Werdum scores a nice hip toss, and the fight returns to the ground. Werdum works to mount, and begins landing multiple punches. Vera tries to cover up, but, ahem, Dan Miragliotta steps in for the hotly-contested stoppage. Vera jumps up screaming, "I'm OK," but it's too late. Fabricio Werdum defeats Brandon Vera via TKO (strikes) -- Round 1, 4:40. Quote Link to comment

yuuto
too bad vera lost again Werdum defeats Vera by TKO (strikes) at 4:40 of round 1. The stoppage was controversial as some consider the referee (Dan Miragliotta) to have stopped the fight early. This is the second incident that has happened with this ref in less than a weeks time. Serial Killer
It's not a controversial loss for Vera. As you can see, he's not even defending himself very well. He didnt even bother to punch or counter the attack. Might be better for him to go back here and join URCC instead. Or might be best if he could use Richard Gutierrez as his sparring partner for his next fight. WAR TEAM GUTIERREZ! Matt Hughes should think of retiring after that loss. That knee is devastating! Quote Link to comment
ray004
i think it was a premature stoppage..with 20 seconds remaining on that round, brandon could've survive the attack. i never saw a clean shot landed by werdum that could put vera in trouble. crossing his arms in front of his face and moving his head from side to side, to me, i thought was a good defensive move. just a bias opinion Quote Link to comment
Great Milenko
The time has come for Matt Hughes to retire. I hope that Vera now realizes that he has to drop to LHW. Michael Bisping vs Rich Franklin next... Overall, not a bad UFC event. Ang bilis ng mga laban. Quote Link to comment
JustSmile=)
Even if the ref did not stop Vera's match prematurely, it's just a matter of time before Werdum will stop him on the ground. I don't know what's next for Vera cause even if he drops down to LHW, he will not do well in that animal-filled division. C'mon Hendo, Shogun, Iceman, Rampage, Wanderlei, Forrest. I really don't think he's in that level YET. Just like what Matt Hughes said, he just have one match left... he really wants to beat Matt Serra.. I hope Hughes goes out in a bang by knocking Serra the f*ck out. Edited June 8, 2008 by G_sKiLLz Quote Link to comment

The best defense was to cover, which he was doing.. Werdum threw punches that never really stunned him.. Brandon would have survived that round if not for the ref.. What I would agree though is that he needs to go down to 205 or 185. Quote Link to comment
