sakmobratko
They have a valid reason to feel bad ... these kids, most if not all of them decided to skip turning pro for the chance to play for flag and country. They have sacrifice a lot and at the last minute, their slot would just be taken away by someone who have not even played with the team for at least 6 months. That's UNFAIR ... Moving forward, kung balak lang din naman din ng Gilas Management na humugot ng PBA players, why not create a pool of say 15-24 players that is open not only to amatures but players from the PBA as well. Let these PBA players appeal to their mother clubs to allow them to play for the Flag if they so desire and they should at least attend 2 practice session of the Gilas team on a weekly basis. As I remember last year. itong mga batang gilas ay nagmamalaki at hindi raw sila for the sake of money like pba pro and hanggang ngaun ang motto nila ay play for flag and country... bakit all of a sudden gusto ni toroman ng pba cager sa Gilas? Di ako magugulat kung maraming Gilas ang mapapasama this pba draft and I think mawawala rin itong Gilas team kc the real goal of this team is mapabagsak ang pro league.. sino ba mag board nitong gilas? noli eala na tinapon ng pba because of scandal and lots of people here only wants revenge. to make this short: Pba pa rin ang dapat ipadala.. RIGHT PLAYER SELECTION AND COACH LANG!!!! PEACE PEOPLE Quote Link to comment

RIGHT PLAYER SELECTION AND COACH LANG!!!! PEACE PEOPLE Sangayon ako sa sinabi mong Right Player and Coach ngunit idagdag na rin natin ang Right TRAINING Program. Quote Link to comment

RED2018
The key word is DEVELOP: Rajko Toroman is one of the best basketball coaches in the whole world. He is also human. He has forgotten that: The SBP Gilas program is a developmental program. All the players in the Gilas program were personally hand-picked by him. To be developed as team members of the Philippine men's national basketball team. That is not happening anymore. If he wanted the professional players to eventually play in the national team, then he should have hand-picked the professional players he wanted from the start. If you want to build an efficient, magnificent, delightful vehicle (a car, perhaps?) -- then you must plan, revise, execute and test that vehicle. You will get high-quality parts and you will expect those parts to perform. You DO NOT replace already running parts with sub-standard or un-tested parts. Once the vehicle that you've built appears to be running already, you will come to the conclusion that you must still make some revisions. Sometimes, you will want to remove some parts that you've observed is not helping the vehicle to achieve its fullest potential. At a certain point, major parts must be revised -- or removed. There may even be a point where the visionary of the "vision" must be removed. If only to achieve the dream, the vision. Unless, of course, we just want to build a jeepney. If everything fails (with all efforts and means exhausted), then it's not really for us- that's the time we should redirect or streamline our vision. Quote Link to comment

Liar
“Smart Gilas asked for a reconsideration of our initial and unofficial position. And because this is for flag and country, we agreed to reconsider,” said Baylon. “I think it is an honor for Asi and for his team as well.” The PBA board unanimously approved SBP’s appeal but one board member said “the request raises question on the initial claim of an SBP official that they didn’t and won’t ever need PBA help.” Quote Link to comment
HunkDavao
as expected smart gilas is working against time and talent.... they are looking to recruit PBA players to beef up their campaign for the ASIAN GAMES.... WE nid a longer program and not the band aid solution to our woes.... it will take us more than a decade to come up with filipino players who are tall enought to compete at the ASIAN LEVEL It is not just the height that matters and has been the lack of the National Team. It's the hunger and spirit and pride to play for the country. These kids are once again just Showbiz personalities who will play in the PBA if they were all given the opportunity to do so with the combined salary. How to get a team full of National Pride? Get a bunch of PBA players to play for the National Team with just allowance to support them. There you will see what matters more, money or country. Nuf said. Quote Link to comment

There you will see what matters more, money or country. i think this is a bit extreme..these people have families too..you can't expect them to play only for allowances..if this is the case wala na talaga maglalaro sa kanilahindi dahil ayaw nila pero dahil wala na sila ipambubuhay sa pamilya nilakaramihan sa mga ito (honestly speaking) has nothing else but basketballeven the current Gilas players have multi-million contracts under their belts country matters to these players but money matters too not because of money per say pero dahil sa pamilya we have enough good guards, look for a big man outsideyun lang naman ang kulang enaturalize a playeryung matino.. khilua23
good idea... pero... asian teams nga di natin matalo, miami heat pa... hindi yung winning against the heat ang pupuntiryahin dun kung sakali... para magkaroon sila ng experience playing with bigger, athletic guys. kung magkaka experience sila makipaglaro sa heat, mas magiging madali sa kanila makipaglaban sa mga asian teams. plus, playing against the heat could boost the confidence of smart gilas players. Liar
Edited August 9, 2010 by Liar Quote Link to comment

RED2018
'Import' Asi carried Smart past Jordan: BEIRUT, Lebanon (3rd FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup): With their PBA ‘import’ playing his role rather well, Philippines played well within themselves and earned a 75-71 win over defending champions Jordan in a Group ‘B’ game on Monday. Philippines, thus won their second game for the second successive night, and are now 2-1. Jordan, who are using this event as a part of their preparations for the 2010 FIBA World Championship, have suffered their second successive loss. Asi Taulava, brought into the line-up for this competition “to add size”, returned a double-double – a dozen rebounds with a Baker’s Dozen points – to lead the Philippines charge. “He (Taulava) has definitely added size. He’s responded well to the team not too bad. I think we can look at using him in the long term too, ” Philippines coach Toroman Rajko said. Marnel Baracel was the SEABA nation’s leading scorer with a 16-point haul. Chris Tiu scored 13, and Mark Barocca returned an incredible 80% on the paint (4/5) in his 12 points. Rasheim Wright, yet to gain full match fitness began to find his touch – something that pleased Jordan coach Mario Palma for the long term – and had a game-high 17 points. “It’s alright. Am getting to feel better, ” Wright said. Sam Daghles had 15 points and Ayman Idais had 11. The two Zaids in the Jordanian line-up – Abbas and Al-Khas both pulled down 11 rebounds each. “Such defeats don’t really matter. What we have to introspect is, if we did what we expected to do right, ” Palma said. “I think our outside shooting has been very bad so far, ” Palma said. Jordan converted a mere five attempts in three-pointers out of the 28 times they tried from the perimeter Quote Link to comment
